Yea I wish the US and Brazil had more military ties. I think it would benefit both countries. I'm just happy we're friends and get along. I'd love to visit the beautiful beaches of Brazil eventually. Also, my best friend for years was from sweden. His dad worked for Volvo and was transferred to Arizona, US back in primary school. It was a sad day when they moved back to Sweden.

I'm Brasilian, and I theres something I need to say reguarding Himars comparisson, I will do this in Portuguese since its for other Brasilians.

I'm open to being corrected but I have to admit, to me as a European the concept of South-American armies and them using the usual heavy weaponry in particular always was a bit weird. The reason is because there wasn't a real, large scale war between any South-American countries in a long time, it seems very unlikely that there will be one in the foreseeable future, it is similarly unlikely that any outside force (like the Chinese for example) will ever invade South-America and South-America rarely sent any coalition forces to any of those nation building wars in the Middle-East or Afghanistan or whatever. South-America is more known for civil wars and those always seemed to chaotic and messy, with people running around in the cities with small arms, to use heavy weapons. It seems all those South-American nations need their armies for is for military parades and maybe to hunt for drug cartels and illegal gold miners in the jungle or stuff like that. None of that seems to require heavy weaponry like MLRS or tanks or anything like that. I know, there was the Falklands War, but Argentina never deployed any heavy weapons to the islands in that war, as far as I know.

deterrence. why would a country bigger than australia who makes food for 1.2 billion people and have pretty much all natural resources available have no heavy weaponry? can't depend solely on the kindness of strangers right now as we speak there's about 300k man and women on active military service. the quick conscript 'reserve' list makes it about a million. and have in mind, constitutionally brazil can only defend itself and be on peace missions (at least since 1988). Brazil a whole other beast compared to other south american countries, just look at a map. just too big.
@TrangleC Жыл бұрын
@@bzipoli I still don't know who it is that is deterred. As I said, I am not an expert for the South American strategical climate, but to me as an outsider it just looks extremely unlikely that any South American country is likely to invade another. I'm not aware of any territorial or strategic (like fights over water) disputes in South America. From the outside South America just looks like a region where all the countries are kind of similar enough to each other culturally and ethnically, all with one exception speak the same language, all are just settled in their ways and without reason to attack each other and all too busy with internal stuff to bother starting wars with each other. The borders seem to have been drawn according to natural features and mostly by the people who live there and don't just cross randomly through the territory of different ethnic groups, like in Africa or the Middle East. When you look at a historical list of wars in South America, it seems to confirm my impression. First of all, that list is very short and secondly, with the exception of the Falklands War, it is all "Wars of Independence" and civil wars and there even is stuff like "Police Revolts" listed.
