The Tamoyo and the Osorio wouldve been one of the well known and capable tanks today, if only they continued the project along with modernization.
@Jonathan.D2 жыл бұрын
Their tanks did very well in testing and in trials. When compared to the other tanks of the time it did as good or better. Unfortunately, countries looking to import tanks were afraid to go with a product from a country without a proven track record. The Brazilian tanks have better targeting systems than many of the tanks Russia has been using in Ukraine. If they had been able to continue they would probably have an MBT that is very competitive.
@iterationfackshet19902 жыл бұрын
Hell no, the Osirio took parts from all over that would’ve been hell on logistics and production. The Tamoyo is a medium tank, something that is dead and forgotten in the modern battlefield, with it being too heavy to fill the roles needed of light tanks and too light to fill the roles of a MBT. Both tanks are unsuitable for any modern military.

@iterationfackshet19902 жыл бұрын
@@Jonathan.D the experts say that both tanks were dogshit. Most of the claims made about the Osirio such as surpassing the Abrams in Saudi tests were either complete lies or extensions of the truth by Brazilian nationalists. Ethan B. Kapstein stated that even though the Osirio’s technical capability was reportedly comparable to its contemporaries, there were doubts that the EE-T1 was commercially viable due to the heavy usage of imported parts, including the turret. The only thing about it that set it apart was its advanced fire control system, but that basically made it a Leopard 1 with better optics. It only surpassed the Abrams in some of the tests of the Saudi government. For the tamoyo I don’t even need to bring up any experts. The tank had a 90mm gun and no composite armor in the mid 80s. It didn’t even reach past the prototype phase and was basically an upgraded walker bulldog, not even modernized.

In doing so they made an army that excels at the sort of fights seen in Ukraine today but doesn't do so hot against tactics specifically developed to counter it. An army that is structured, equipped, and trained specifically to defeat insurgents could be done. But then the US would struggle with conventional foes, rarely getting to the insurgency phase to begin with. Ideally some other power in NATO or the EU would build a counter-insurgency designed army and they would take over that sort of peacekeeping while the US continues to dominate the conventional opening phases of conflict.

[UPDATED] The dream of a Brazilian tank lives on still and we are looking at interesting times in this decade for Brazilian armor with the 100 years of tanks and 200 years of independence this year and many modernization programs. As of 2019 the army started a study called GT Nova Couraca "Testing Group New Armor" and it was a big study to completely overhaul the army vehicles, and it looked on everything from cascavel to leopard 1 modernization and replacement, to new areas such as proper IFVs and smaller vehicles, and in 2021 these ideas are shaping into reality as the army officially opened a Tender and requisition program for the modernization of the Cascavel, Leopard 1A5BR and the purchase OF A NEW 8X8 MGS system and dedicated IFV AND A NEW TANK alongside the modernizations. With the modernizations, the leo 1 modernization is currently being idealized but most of the requirements are already here (it includes overhauls on engine and suspension, new electronics, Night Vision and Thermal sights, electric turret drive, CITV for the commander, overhauled 105mm gun and new ammo to make it more usable and C4I interfaces and datalink, and I think they are considering APS for it but I cant be sure (this is waiting for the proper consortiums to be established so prototype work can begin) and for the cascavel the modernization list is already finished and the program is currently on the phase where the companies send prototypes for CTEx for trials (these include 2 consortiums made by Norinco and Equitron partnering together, and Ares Engineering with other Brazilian companies with ARES being a BR company with ties to Israeli ELBIT, the modernization list includes new suspension, engine, gun and ammo, electric turret drive, C4I interfaces, NV and Thermals and integrated ATGMs) and this is already on assembling proto phase. The IFV program is on the queue as the army is going 2 programs at a time so the budget doesnt get blown up but they are looking at the next gen IFVs that showed up in the last years (things like Lynx, AS21 Redback, Ajax, CV9040 and others) On the MGS 8x8 thing the program started in 2020 but became real in 2021 with the army releasing requirements and companies answering with the LAV700, Centauro II, Type-16, South Korean Tigon, Norinco ST-1, Boxer with a 105mm cockerill turret and other 10 companies that were not revealed to have answered, being considered among others like patria with their 8X8, but the most likely winner of this will be the centauro II with the centauro being made by Iveco and they have contracts with the army already with the Guarani (Based on the Iveco Super AV which also went to the USMC as the ACV) which is currently being built in brazil and exported to a few nations and the Iveco LMV being chosen as our new MRAP and also being built locally, plus the Centauro Shares parts with the guarani with suspension, powertrain and others being compatible between one another, and iveco already made offers for the army to build the Centauro II with the 120mm in the Sete Lagoas Plant where the guarani and LMV are built, this in my opinion will most likely award them the contract, most as the program will conclude in may 2022 with one of these 8x8s being chosen and the vehicles will get chosen in a contract with 4x being bought to get the troops trained already in 2022, and to form a new doctrine for them with other 215 being bought in the coming years (most being made locally). but the spiciest part is really the MBT, with the army wanting to buy enough numbers to replace most of our Leo 1A1BE, Leo 15BR and M60A3TTS numbers (so around 300 to 400 vehicles) and as expected this is the most expensive and lengthy program of all and as I mentioned above and also the most important of them all, the army is waiting for these other programs to finish or be near finishing so they can advance with tenders and tests for the new tanks, but most of the requirements have already been released so companies can answer, and these include but not limited to. 3 or 4 crew no more than 58 tons of weight 120mm cannon Hydropneumatic suspension armor capable of holding at the very least 800mm of penetration without failing but preferably more 3rd gen Night vision and thermal systems alongside new FCS, electronics and everything else being new too and these vehicles to have a degree of nationalization (this meaning some if not most parts being made locally or maintained locally without any need to ship tanks to outside the country for this) this program is being more methodically thought about and developed and in the meantime the programs above are happening as they cost less and are less complex. BUT HERE IS WHERE IT GETS VERY INTERESTING since 2020 Brazil has been looking at the Type-10 tank, with 2 visits made by the army high command and high rank tank school personnel to Fuji to take a look at the type-10 and see it in action on showcases and such plus talking with Japanese tank personnel who work on these vehicles, AND IN THE END OF 2021 the Japanese sent people from their army armor related circles to visit the Brazilian Armor school, where the Brazilian tank crews and other mil vehicle crews are trained and gather experience on armor usage and alongside that they visited the KWM (Kraus-Wegmann Maffei) army defense plants located in Santa Maria where the Leopards and M60s are maintained and overhauled and the army depots where the vehicles are stored and organized, this visit being focused on the Japanese looking for a more official defense cooperation with Brazil on many military areas and in specific armored vehicles for a possible cooperation (as they recently lifted their ban of exports on military material around 2017) and to see the status of the army infrastructure related to tanks and their usage here, this is huge news to the tank program as the Japanese and local army heads are interested in a more intimate cooperation between the Japanese and Brazilian defense industry, not to mention that the type-10 fits the army specs very well, almost as if they thought of it first then included other vehicles. But with that being said we have to wait what will happen in this decade as the army is in need of new vehicles in all areas and they are doing what they can to get everything set up and ready to keep the army in state of art for the following decades to come Here I will post sources for what i said here with links, information's and videos, (Portuguese but google web page translation should be very good for this) tecnodefesa.com.br/gt-nova-couraca-e-os-desafios-no-reequipamento-da-forca-blindada-eb/ tecnodefesa.com.br/gt-nova-couraca-e-o-futuro-carro-de-combate-do-eb-seria-o-fim-da-era-dos-mbt-super-pesados/ tecnodefesa.com.br/vbc-cav-lav-700-assault-gun-uma-opcao-moderna/ tecnodefesa.com.br/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/LAV700-4.jpg tecnodefesa.com.br/vbc-cav-8x8-exercito-divulga-o-cronograma-de-entrega/ tecnodefesa.com.br/vbc-cav-8x8-as-novidades/ tecnodefesa.com.br/vbc-cav-8x8-a-disputa-tem-inicio/ tecnodefesa.com.br/modernizacao-do-cascavel-anunciada-as-empresas-concorrentes/ tecnodefesa.com.br/modernizacao-do-cascavel-entrega-das-propostas-na-proxima-semana/ tecnodefesa.com.br/ares-e-a-modernizacao-dos-cascavel-e-leopard/ tecnodefesa.com.br/leopard-1a5-br-a-modernizacao-pode-estar-proxima/ Cascavel Leo 1 and 8X8 MGS related articles with army Press releases^ JGSDF guys visiting around in the army Armored Command Center kzbin.info/www/bejne/j6TPqXmmqbmneJo kzbin.info/www/bejne/jqnbmKuFrNuBfKs Army Chiefs press release about the 8x8 and Leo 1, sadly in PT-BR only but auto subtitles should suffice for the most kzbin.info/www/bejne/jHuyoaOFoNt3r9E another MBT related live about it with the same language deal kzbin.info/www/bejne/mJm4Z2OioLdshs0&t LAV 700 Here a link to IMGUR with army slides with requirements for the vehicles, which I translated imgur.com/a/1N0AP8c AGAIN if there is any grammar mistakes please forgive me and my English, I hope this was a interesting read for any of you interested in this topic.

Very good for brazil! I think Cascavels only need sight modernizations, similar to the better optics on Mexican ERC90s.
@HueWave2 жыл бұрын
@@tetraxis3011 the thing is older than ECR-90s, it needs a lot more, we mounted a TORC-30 turret on one for a expo and i think thats a better option than these 90mms we use, that paired with ATGMs and completely overhauled electronics and engine would be a great package to keep them going for more 20 years, but in this context any modernization program that gets selected will be a win since the cascavel will get a new life regardless.

UPDATE The army just published the results of the 8x8 trials, and now only the Norinco ST-1BR and the Centauro II are in the competition for the final trials, the rest was disqualified for being either subpar, or just apcs adapted with a 105mm or downright unfit for the doctrine
@HueWave Жыл бұрын
well, Centauro II won, 221 units planned, initial batch of 2 and another of 96 following, now with MBT's, it looks like the chinese are coming in force with a VT4 offer, but its a VT4 with a 120mm nato gun and western systems, alongside the koreans and japanese offering things, and the swedes too

Now Brazil is conducting secretive tests of the modernized Osorio, including its engine, transmission, suspension, and with a complete Hitfact II 120mm turret that will be produced under license in Brazil, under the same purchase contract for the turrets acquired with the Italian Centauro II. Although it is under secrecy, there are unofficial reports suggesting that the Syrius particle accelerator is conducting studies with a graphene and niobium steel alloy, which has already achieved significant gains in weight reduction and increased strength.

Hey cone, about the recently restored tamoyo, it might be a long shot, but in my time in the army here in Rio de Janeiro, I served with a career army mechanic that said that on his old base, his officers used to restore old tanks (like Renault FTs) to driving conditions just for fun and to, you know keep some of the history alive, so that *might* be the case with the Tamoyo too, however that's pure speculation on my part

Grat video, can you consider making a video about Polish tanks like 7TP, TKS, or prototypes like 10TP or 14TP
@HanSolo__2 жыл бұрын
14TP never existed. I would rather look at the late PT-91 Twardy. The original, not the one made out of T-72M1. Like the one in the M2A2 standard. Early on called T-72M2A2 for external clients. Or the PT-91M Pandekar.

@@blasekiller9733 its not a conversion, the hull is different, same as turret. It is inspired by an m3 modernization program which involved modified hulls and new turrets. X1 is a fully native design.

@@tetraxis3011 you are talking about the X1A2, the one with the cockerill gun. The X1 is very much converted, the hulls were rebuild at bernardini, while the X1A2 was a new design from the ground up. Thr turret was indeed a new turret as it was pretty much an uparmored and redesigned H-90 turret of which brazil had acquired about 53 for this project.
