Because it means nothing, whip and fip mean a lot more than those goofy stats, granted if you lead the league in all your nasty but an era and win total doesn’t paint the whole picture

@@Charlieh_16To equate WHIP with ERA and FIP in terms of usefulness as a statistic makes no sense whatsoever. WHIP, as is in the name, places equal value on a hit as a walk. What’s a hit? A grand slam allowed in a 1-run game? A bloop single with 2 outs and the bottom of the lineup coming up in a blowout win? Doesn’t matter. With WHIP, a hit is a hit. What’s a walk? A walk issued to a hot hitter up with first open, a runner on second, and a double play-prone hitter on deck? Or a bases-loaded walk issued to a crappy hitter in a tight game? Doesn’t matter. With WHIP, a walk’s a walk, even though one is a legitimately good strategic move and the other is just poor pitching. WHIP doesn’t tell much of a story about a pitcher’s performance at all.

If the Brewers can make it to July in first, they’ll definitely add a pitcher or even call up Misioroski or Gasser who are highly rated pitching prospects.

I think a really hot take is something you said at the end about the O's sending Jackson back down, Marc. They can afford to let him struggle and figure it out with how well the rest of the team overall is hitting. He's been playing good defense and I don't think sending him down would help cause he clearly would dominate the pitching at Triple A like he was already doing. It might help him reset his mind a bit but at this point, they can let him get better and the past couple games have had better at-bats from him.

Crazy that the Astros have gotten off to such a trash start when their superstars are hitting. When my Tigers get off to a 14-11 start with Torkelson having a low .600 OPS and no home runs and Colt Keith and Parker Meadows being automatic outs.

The entire point of the game is to score more runs than the other guys, so players that drive in runs are extremely valuable. I do understand that some of it is outside of the players control, if your team sucks you're going to have less RBI because there's less runners to drive in. But it's more meaningful than pitcher wins for sure.

Buy Astros missing playoffs. Would have to play like a 98-win team from here on out to get to 90 wins, which might not even be good enough for the playoffs this year. And you said it yourself, you’re not sure how soon it’ll get that much better. The hole they have dug is real and the math simply doesn’t check out for them unless they’re gonna be a top 5 team the rest of the season
