The game felt like the Astros actually won the world series, after losing 7-0 to bounce back with their own shutout and a no-hitter. I think the Phillies lost all of the confidence from the previous game that fast. I would say the pressure is starting to get to them after this loss, but it's a good series.

It's funny, only a day ago it was a foregone conclusion that the Phillies were going to walk away with this. I don't know why either... one game where McCullors was obviously tipping pitches and Dusty left him in way too long. First game was a blowout, second game was a gift to the Phillies. Now they get no-hit. Home field advantage back to Houston.

Who takes a pitcher out of a World Series game when he's hurling a no-no after 6 innings? He certainly didn't look hurt or tired. Wow, he should have been given the chance at history. Only Don Larsen of the Yankees pitched a no-hitter in a World Series game. Actually it was a perfect game, but a no-hitter none the less. That no-hitter that Larsen hurled back on October 8th, 1956, remains the only no-hitter until this game. I just don't understand why this guy never got a chance at glory!

@@donaphx7921 Yeah, I know what it's called Don, but he only had three innings left and he was showing no signs of fatigue at all. It's just so crazy the way they coddle these athletes today. When I pitched in 1978 for Boston College, even we went all the way and very seldom had a problem. If you ever saw the game played up through the 80's, starters would always finish if they felt good. Nolan Ryan pitched 27 seasons. How many innings do you think he had to pitch to grab 324 wins, 5,714 strikeouts and 7 no-hitters. Along with his 12 one-hitters and 18 two hitters. I saw Cy Young winner Jim Lonborg throw a 1-0 game that went 16 innings, and he pitched every one of them. Dennis Eckersley pitched 14 innings for the Indians as a starter. Just about every starter back in the 60's through the 80's would go the distance if they could. They never whined about sore arms or shoulders. We never heard of a middle reliever or a closer. It was just a relief pitcher no matter what inning. And today's medical technology is so much more advanced. You'd think a guy could pitch longer. It's not just baseball either. Look at the NHL. It's a damned disgrace! You can barely hit anyone anymore. And fighting? Forget it. Used to be if you got into three fights in a game you got ejected. Now if you push a player too hard you're gone. They took fighting completely out. Forget football. It's just a joke...

So one team doesn’t get a hit. They got base runners either by a hit by pitch or walking with 4 balls. But they never hit the ball and put it in play to advance to 1st base. A perfect game is more prestigious but that’s for another day

Essentially, if no one reaches base you get a 'perfect game' (so the team only faces 27 at-bats in the game as they outted every one of them). On a 'no-hitter' though, no one got a hit off the pitcher but runners did get on-base either by a hit-by-pitch or through a base on balls.

It is an absolutely ludicrous decision to take out a starter on his way to a World Series individual no-hitter particularly while sitting on a 5-0 lead. On the very least, he should've been allowed to keep going until he either completed it or got hit on before considering relief.

He was already at 98 pitches or so, not worth the risk, we may need him to pitch a few innings on short rest in a possible game 7, the no hitter was nice but honestly we just needed that win more than anything

@@boat73jr Just did - it was slightly over what I expected coming close to the 100 pitch mark… Still given the historical significance of the feat, I reckon Dusty should’ve erred on taking it one batter at a time and monitoring the pitcher’s health alongside that. Though it’s still not undoable… I’m still perplexed at how pitchers nowadays pitch much less seasons than old-timers whilst also throwing fewer innings per game. It’s a different era but f.e. Nolan and Randy lasted 20+ years throwing complete games at a higher level.

Absolutely agree. Still a nice feat but combined no-hitters are absurd especially with a 5-0 lead as a safety net... Incredible how pitchers nowadays pitch less than old-timers and their careers are less than half of what they used to be... And to anyone who says they're throwing harder and putting more strain on their arms, Nolan Ryan and Randy Johnson both pitched 20+ seasons...
