I actually bought this card as an upgrade from a EVGA GTX 1060 6gb and also swapped cases. It is honestly very impressive because now I have a card that is significantly lower in temperatures under load and I am able to play on ultra running at a minimum of 60fps in games like Witcher 3 next gen and Cyberpunk. This is all on 1440p as well so I am very happy with this card. Maybe its just because I took a significant jump from a 2016 1060 to a 3060 but idk. Either way, if anyone is on the fence, I would suggest it especially if you want to try and avoid breaking the bank.

Cooling is on the edge, barely engh. 2 fans for 170w tdp is ok at best.. Meaning, in future, running games that would load it to max(which it should and it will), with ageing paste and pads, if fan is set below 100%, cooling might not be sufficient at all. Get a good casing as well.

Which components have contact with the heatsink? It appears as if no components other than the gpu chip are making any contact, not even the vram.
@joshwalrath9518
@joshwalrath9518 Жыл бұрын
There is a heat plate (very simple) that covers the GPU and RAM. The RAM has thick thermal pads that do attach to the heatsink, but I am unsure how effective those are. The back plate does come in contact with some components, so those are passively cooled by that unit. Asus has cut holes for other voltage components that then use convection to cool. This is certainly not a high end card made for extreme overclocking. It is an effective card for the price though.

The fact that we are still stuck with 8 gig cards is a travesty in the modern era. For the prices they are charging today even the base model should have 16 gigs minimum today. Ram is cheap once a form factor is scaled. And ddr6 is already there today.

@@joshwalrath9518 so because the 3060 is overall more powerful it doesn’t need to work so hard and this lower clock speeds right?
@joshwalrath9518
@joshwalrath9518 Жыл бұрын
@@aaroncoombs587 there are a few more factors than that, but essentially it is a balance of power and thermals that dictate what a GPU can run at. It just so happens the 1660 Super is based on the NVIDIA TU116 chip, which is a cut down version of the Turing architecture (which powered the RTX 20x0 series)... it is a relatively smaller chip comprised of 6.6B transistors while the 3060 uses the GA106 which features 12B transistors. So yeah, a lot more work is being done by the chip per clock, so it does not have to be clocked nearly as high to reach the performance/power/temp goals of the product.

Hey Eray. In my testing it was not overly noisy at all. I rarely heard it over background, ambient noise and the CPU/Case fans.
