Software should be in addition to, not a requirement to run games. DLSS is fine but their is noticeable drop in quality especially in high resolutions. You should be buying the hardware when you buy a GPU not an artificial price gate to get DLSS 2.0 or 3.0. That's a problem. You are essentially buying a software suite for the price instead of a piece of hardware. Considering they are raising the prices every year and giving you less hardware and compensating with software. It's supposed to be an addition to, not a requirement for the gimped overpriced hardware to actually function normally.

I am a guy with an extremely high tolerance to play games in 30fps, so seeing that I could boot up games like HDII or even Horizon on max settings, which both are VERY demanding games and easily get above 40fps WITHOUT DLSS makes me extremely happy, 3060 as of right now is truly the best GPU you can own as a casual gamer, it's affordable and is a phenomenal successor to GTX 1060 Edit: after using 3060 12GB for over three months now and stress testing it in various games I gotta say that this GPU is an absolute STEAL, I can recommend it for everyone who has a very VERY tight budget and/or doesn't want to or can't buy the 4060

If you already have the 3060 and you've been having fun playing games on it over the last few years then I totally agree. It's a great GPU! However, it's different if one is looking to buy it new in 2024. It depends on the region I guess. The 3060 price is still almost the same as the RTX 4060 in the US. Here in the UK there's around £25 difference which is not that massive either. I'd like the RTX 3060 to be cheaper. It's too much to ask for a previous-gen GPU that is significantly less powerful than the RTX 4060.

Anything under 29 FPS isn't going to ruin your playthrough, most of the videos we see online today on our phones are 29 FPS, we used to play barely 30 FPS in PS4 era, so we kinda grew greedy, as each 10 FPS you gain from 30 FPS is going to take a huge amount of strength from a GPU, the closer you are to 30, the harder is for it to push it up. But any experience that averages around 35 FPS and drops to maybe 22-25 FPS and rockets above 30 FPS is quite playable, as you are not going to get the 25 FPS everywhere, CP2077 Path Tracing w/DLSS Quality on i3 12100F does that, and swapping it to balanced, +5FPS in the lows, and performance jumps it up at least 15 FPS from the lows, except dogtown, you wont have framedrops but since its a small area I enabled DLSS performance, in CP, DLSS only harms the far distance looks, makes it kinda sketchy but for near almost nothing and textures have the same quality, AMD FG is there to compensate for the relatively lower speed because of the 12GB VRAM pool, and there is also lossless scaling as well. 6700XT though much faster, isn't going to change my mind because of DLSS and stronger RT/PT performance I want those options, and I'm willing to pay more Sure many hate Nvidia, but we can't deny their tech is insane, just they're expensive, unless you are talking about an AMD 7900 XT

You dont need 60fps constistently, as long as it feels smooth and works then its fine. As long as it does not dip below 40fps in a single player title its fine. If its multiplier then its a different story but for the most part single player games dont need 60fps and does not need ultra settings. Medium to high settings is more than enough without wasting fps for 5% visual increase.

40-29 is tolerable but anything under 29 is intolerable, we see most videos on phone/pc on internet at 29FPS, so we aren't going to notice a strong issue unless below that mark

@@kossoblkn8923 in most recent titles like horizon forbidden west burning shores i was able to hit 60 fps at maxed out settings (only shadows set to high not ultra) native 1080p, ghost of tsushima ran well too maxed out 60 fps without dlss no problem, right now i am playing god of war ragnarok everything set to ultra except shadows, dlaa without frame gen and getting above 60fps it does drop downto high 40s in the most demanding area of the game but that is fine.

@@andysokayi I alternate between a 1080p monitor and a 4k tv. 4k tv is also used for my partner's PlayStation so I use the 1080 for when she's playing. So far the 3060 is doing great for both, and is running most games I've tried at 4k pretty easily. That being said I don't play many intense games. I've been playing a lot of Minecraft and haven't had to deal with lag, and I was able to play empire of the ants at 4k max settings with no issues, but I can't say much on higher end games. At 1080p you'll definitely be fine with basically anything you throw at it tho

DLSS Quality at 1080p feels worse than the already far from ideal 1080p native. If you are used to 1080p then you may not notice that much of a difference. My EVGA GTX 1070 died last night, puff of smoke, short circuit I'm guessing. Thankfully psu cut power automatically and didn't damage motherboard. Well, I hope not, we shall see. Didn't even use it much over the years, and I installed the thermal pad mod that EVGA sent out to customers. now I don't have a PC all I can do is use my phone to try and shop for a new gpu. I use windows 7 for emulators and 4060 is not compatible with windows 7 (no driver) so I am forced to buy 3060 but they are almost all sold out and bad value for money compared to 4060. I don't want EVGA again cause I don't trust it. Had an MSI before that which also died. Asus are extortionists, so I wanted gigabyte but such bad value for their decent gaming model (windforce version has crap cooler). So Now I'm back to looking at MSI again

You can use nukem9 frame gen mod for all Rtx gpus. I am using it in my rtx3070 laptop and at 1600p I get 90/100 fps high setting with dlss on quality mode.

There is always multiple ways to skin a cat try using lossless scaling and if your stuck you can always lock to 30 fps using Riva Tuner and bump 2x to 60fps especially on single player AAA games, Smooth as butter I play on triple 1080p screens and use this trick.

i have rtx 3060 laptop, it's performance is very close to desktop one but it is only 6 gb. the gpu would perform much much better if it had 12 gb. i think 12 gb version will perform okay for 3-4 years if you don't mind decreasing graphics.

Just bought a 3060ti for $160 for my shop PC. Paired with a 5700X3D & a 1080p 180hz screen. Plays games great and many run fixed at 180fps. As long as the card has enough VRAM you can easily tweak game settings to get the FPS you want. If people can get away from the default mindset that you must run ULTRA preset and get horribly optimized game performance you can easily run older GPU's and play games through with them looking great. Just like consoles that have to limit their settings to get the FPS they want, PC's can easily do it too but so many don't know how to get the game to look and run good. The lazy way is just set ULTRA and it runs much worse.

I have a 3060 as well but the frames really tank in helldivers 2 when theres 4 players with tons of automatons, explosions etc to 15-20fps at times and others with even faster setups have been experience those massivw drops.this js on 1080p. I've tried low, medium, high and ultra and it seems to get worse after recent updates

Yup I also have this situation, I think the game got worse in pc performance in latest patches. Especially in new map gacrux, with only one bug breach and my 3060 gets crushed from 60fps to 20-30fps. My CPU is R5-5600, the game suddenly gets so much CPU bound. My game settings are High texture and everything else is low.

with AMDs FSR 3.1 out and horizon forbidden west got patched I made my old GTX 1070 playable at 1440p. using FSR 3.1 upscaling at performance preset, AMD framegeneration on and a combination of medium settings the game played at mostly above 60 fps and looked and felt quite good. Would be nice to see you retest this RTX 3060 with AMDs framegen in new horizon forbidden west

Honestly, both options suck for different reasons. I recommend waiting for the RTX 5060 and 5060 Ti. It seems that NVIDIA is preparing to launch them soon-likely in Q1 2025, at least according to the latest news.

I was contemplating it. But then scrapped this idea and returned the RTX 3060. It feels wrong to promote the 3060 if it needs third-party software to make it a decent choice in 2024. There is no guarantee that good support will be provided and maintained if it isn't done by NVIDIA. It's a cool software though.

@@theivadim I bought Lossless Scaling for my Steam Deck (before selling it) to upscale games when I had Windows installed on it and this was prior to them adding frame gen to the app. This program has gotten many updates since, I think it has pretty good support. The fact that it works on all graphics cards and for all games makes it a worthy investment imo.

I have the exact same GPU and the temperatures are very high whe§n at 100% load. I have read that the Ventus fans are terrible. I ended up undervolting my card and the temperatures are lower and the fan noise has decreased considerately.

The 5090 will be powerful. I have no doubt about it. I'm more interested in witnessing how close the 5080 will be to the 5090 in terms of performance and price🙂 It'll be a pleasure to use either one of them to play games at 4K with ray tracing enabled. @@theivadim not everyone wants to play games at 1080p ultra 60+fps thats just dumb until and unless the game feels smooth with good visuals 3060 is a solid 1080p card and at some games you can scale upto 1440p depending on the game optimization just tweak the game as per the settings and you are good to go!

No. It’s not soft or blurry. Just pixelated because 1080p doesn’t have enough pixels to provide a good picture on a 32-inch monitor. 1080p scales perfectly to 4K because every 1080p pixel equals to four 2160p pixels.

Personally, I don’t like how 1080p look even on a 27-inch monitor. I don’t recommend buying 1080p. 1440p monitors are not that much more expensive. I’d go for that and use resolution upscaling in games where the GPU isn’t enough to run at native resolution.

I run a Rog Strix 4060 TI 16 GB on a 34" Ultrawide @ 1440 and get great frames on most everything on ultra, I am running a small o.c. on the card. I'm quite happy with it, but the price was too high at the time.

He says: "Getting 60 FPS is not possible in a modern game using the RTX 3060" This is completely false. I can run RDR2 in 4k at a constant 60FPS using the correct settings. The 12GB of memory allows the 3060 to run Ultra textures and with dlss performance the game looks fantastic with lighting features set to high, almost all other settings are set to low or turned off because they don't do much for visual quality. Modern games don't use the same technology as older games did, and running max settings isn't optimal for literally any GPU. A RTX 4090 with actually lag in RDR2 running max settings in 4k. These games have lots of additional tech that isn't necessarily right for your GPU. You should consult an optimization guide if you plan on spending any serious time on a given game to make sure you get decent performance with your GPU.

What's also interesting here is that in your 'Don't Buy Until You See This! RTX 4060 vs RTX 3060 12GB in 2024' video you show that on the RTX 4060 you can play with very high settings at native 1080p with no upscaling and still keep around 60 fps on that card. So at least in this game the RTX 4060 is a good ties up VS the RTX 3060.

For me, specs don't matter. Only experience matters. Nah, mine can run actual games very well. Cyberpunk for example is not a game, it's a graphics benchmarking software after you play the history. Forza Horizon 5 is well optimized and looks nice, runs on Ultra/Extreme mix at 80+ fps. It looks even better with DLSS Quality.

I'm glad that your 3060 is enough for your needs. In this case, I've showcased games that I actually play. And the 3060 falls a bit short since it can't handle them without help from DLSS. Frame generation could prolong its life. But sadly, NVIDIA will never bring it to RTX 30 series cards.

True. Upgrading from 27 inch 1080p to 1440p was very noticeable for me too. I'm now using the 32 inch 4K 144Hz VA monitor you see in this video. It was yet another very pleasant upgrade from 1440p. Surprisingly, I managed to make it work with an RTX 4070 SUPER I have in my personal PC. Not exactly a 4K gaming GPU by most people's standards. But the setup works thanks to DLSS and frame generation. At higher resolutions DLSS is great. I like pushing GPUs to their limits. That's why I'm interested in trying the RTX 3060 at 1440p next. I wonder if I'll be satisfied with what I find using the 3060 in the latest games.

I'm considering upgrading to this card from an RTX 2070 8 GB, can anyone suggest if it'll be worth it? I wont be gaming at a resolution or refresh rate higher than 1080p 240hz. I've noticed my 2070 getting pushed pretty hard in newer games such as silent hill 2 remake. I'm wondering if the extra 4GB of VRAM makes a difference in this regard.

The RTX 3060 chip has almost the same performance as the RTX 2070. Extra memory won't do much. I wouldn't bother if I were you. Just lower some settings in games where lack of memory becomes an issue. There are still very few games where 8GB is not enough to play on Ultra settings. It makes more sense to buy a proper upgrade later. RTX 50 series cards will be coming out in 2025.
