Watched this before successfully replacing my parent's power jack. Without this I would not have known about the screws under the keyboard and CD drive - Thanks!

The DC jack seems to be a weak point on this model. The positive pin out the back was separated from the jack on the one I just tore down. It took a little effort, but I finally got it to take solder and repaired the existing jack. I don't trust it to hold, though, and left a pigtail sticking out a vent slot for future repair without disassembly.

@@TruePurpose76 Weak indeed! So far, I have had to replace their jack twice! Biggest cause is they didn't have a 90 degree plug, and they used short power cords which often resulted in it getting yanked. Is the pigtail power connector just hanging outside of the laptop? Sounds like a good idea for a laptop that never gets moved, but I bet they would break that off too :(

@@TheLightBeacon what is the part required please?
@TheLightBeacon4 жыл бұрын
@@animalbeats Search for "Asus K53E power jack" and choose your most convenient vendor. I think I used eBay, but if you want a more guaranteed part, buy from an electronics part vendor

This is the cheapest US-based ebay listing. I recommend getting at least two in case one is bad or you need to do the repair again in the future. I had to do it twice for my parents. www.ebay.com/itm/New-DC-Power-Jack-Socket-Charging-Port-Plug-for-ASUS-K53-K53E-K53S-K53SV-K53SD/400363175237?hash=item5d37813d45:g:Xc4AAOSwT-Neh882

Most laptops are the same, but to make sure I found this video. Figured it was time to redo the thermal paste, and wanted to make sure I wasn't going to rip out some kind of ribbon cable. +1

Thanks! I had to replace the keyboard, but decided to go all the way in order to replace the heatsink compound on my 11 year old Asus! I just can't justify replacing this workhorse!
