To be honest, Asus NUC is not very visible on the market, unfortunately Asus is losing in the fight for customer attention with Chinese manufacturers

What do you think of the CPU? I plan to run Home assistent VM, plex server and some other applications/VM/containers on it and I would like it to be a little future proof as I don't plan to replace it the next 5-10 years. I am mainly considering the version with Intel Core Ultra 5 125H and the Intel Core 3 100U. I don't need a lot of horsepower right now so low power consumption in idle state is more important. I just don't see this parameter mentioned too much so it is harder to compare the variants.

The German PC magazine c't recently compared the Asus NUC 14 Pro with Core Ultra 7 165H and with Core 3 100U. Here is a translation of the text: “The power consumption is disappointingly high, especially in comparison to the NUC 14 Pro with the more modern Core Ultra 7. While the latter is one of the most economical mini PCs available with 2.8 watts in idle mode, the version with Core 3 swallows far more than twice as much, namely almost 7 watts. And under full load, the power consumption is practically the same as that of the much more powerful processor. The Core 3 100U in the NUC 14 Pro is basically an old acquaintance: Its codename may be “Raptor Lake”, but it is hardly any different from the Core i3-1215U “Alder Lake” introduced in 2022.” I'm currently leaning more towards the Intel Core Ultra 5 125H.

@@DaKo1989x wow, thanks for the info. Could you please share the link or give a reference if links are not possible? I am now also more leaning towards the Ultra 5 and slowly considering the Ultra 7 version - both in the Pro+ alluminium case that supposedly has better thermals/cooling and then possibly use it instead of the docked laptop for work (via VM in Proxmox).

Just curious after today’s announcement. Can Mac mini M4 be used for virtualization and installation of proxmox? Is it a good choice for home server?

Did you get the barebone version? The Asus website lacks the details as to what the barebone version kit contains.

Are the NVMe available in this machine of the 4th or 5th PCIe generation?
@m3lonbr3adАй бұрын
previous Tall NUC generations had a B Key that could support a 2.5Gbe add-on. this 14 Pro Tall has a M Key 2242 instead of the B Key, so that means its up to ASUS to hopefully provide an updated add-on ethernet for this generation.

The SODIMM DDR5 RAM and NPU give next to no performance gains - "artificially" inflating the value and price
@kdl0Ай бұрын
@@nini_kys I think it might depend on what you're doing. For example Frigate NVR has "ai"-related image recognition stuff for camera security applications, so a NPU helps with this. Or so I understand.

This isn't the best because it requires 19.5V AC-DC power supply. Need something so I don't need to run an inverter
