All tips are good, I just want to add a personal experience with can affect decision making about one tip: mini pcs, I have started with then, but I didn't have luck with, because of their quality... I've bought two and few months later start having problems with the USB 3.0 port of one, and the CPU fan of both started to make noise, having to disassemble then to change the fans... and I just couldn't find the right model to buy, had to use a 3d printer fun instead... So, mini PCs are more difficult to repair... so I decided to use "classic" parts... other thing is storage, I don´t like the Idea of external hard drives connected through USB, I prefer having then protected inside the case, but for people who uses NAS it doesn't matter...

My tip: Don't go too cheap!!! I spend a lot of time and also money to try around with to small and different hardware. Buy 2-3 MiniPCs for a cluster, a good managed switch and a NAS with min 4slots and you are fine for a while🤓

Excellent video! For MSPs, dependable systems like strong cybersecurity, reliable backups, and effective monitoring are essential. Tools like the Thirdlane Multi Tenant PBX are vital for ensuring secure and seamless communication.

Both have become RansomeWare. Move to physical servers to avoid extortion.

Proxmox is not what I would call intuitive. Proxmox doesn’t seem to have any way to copy files via the Web GUI. The networking is confusing. VMware is much more clear to manage.

Спасибо за качественные видео. почему docker а не podman? Как считаете когда появится гипервизор подготовленный специально для удобной работы с контейнерами и k8c? Может снимите видео о различиях docker and podman? Для докер много инструментов, для podman только podman desktop

How many CudaCores do you need for running this without getting frustrated. I know, the more the better. But what really makes sense? Just trying to find out what graphic card I should bet without busting my bank account…

Personally i scrapped my Dell Poweredge server which was noisy and expensive to run at home, and moved to a Optiplex 7020 SFF. With a decent i7, 32GB RAM, and 6TB worth of SSD's and a 4 port NIC. Its cheap, silent, efficient on power, and works well with Proxmox. Even virtualised my router with PFsense, so no more need for a ISP router.

I think there are different points of view. I do use a VM for development. Because the company assign me the resources depending on needs i can get a machine with 4-40 CPUs depending on needs . For production it is a different subject. Like deployments and delivery CI/CD times

doesnt matter with the b2b problems from Broadcom, vmware will be dropped regardless. Companies in generally do not like sudden moves and other associated problematic costs both short and long term, regardless how good the products are E.g if you're running say a fortinet firewall with other cisco managed products and VMs, and one of those links in those chains critical gets zero support, zero compensation out of the blue and you have only 1 year to go.... its every admin's worst nightmare once the management gets hit with the news its really impossible to savage apart from throwing more money [ which some idiots do ] and that the costs will go up by 3 folds... you will see how fast those VMs will then be dropped. and from the comments, folks still do not know how bad it was when Broadcom took over its not Containers vs Vmware its your data and your support being swapped, or dropped at anytime.

So, you didn't add 'ByPassSecureBootCheck', is this not needed? It is on a Mac using Boot Camp.

I would suggest nomad over kubernetes (especially for homeland enthusiasts) as it's better in just about every way, but other than that solid vid.

VMs migrate with exact memory state within seconds with virtually zero interruption to a service from host to another in a hypervisor cluster. How do you approach migration from host to another using containers in cases where you need to provide highly available service?
@piotrd.4850
@piotrd.4850 5 күн бұрын
Well, usually it's just another container taking the load. Containers by definition can't migrate with memory state.
@MichaelSmith-fg8xh
@MichaelSmith-fg8xh 5 күн бұрын
If you need to keep the server up to have high availability... You don't have HA. The container approach would be to have multiple containers sharing the load with the system being able to tolerate nodes going in and out (eg the nodes share nothing or have some way of dealing with dead nodes and synching with live nodes)

BS on that migration without it impacting production. I carry the scars to prove otherwise.

Linux based containers all do that with criu. the kernel added several features to support it, e.g. new prctl operations for setting procfs state.

Gotta say it's nice. I needed to modify some settings of course, but once I adjusted it it all works pretty smoothly. I do have Gitea with CI/CD deployment arranged for the sake of clarity of my own infra, as I have 3 docker nodes (previously Swarm, previously K8S), but that's just for organizing, while your dashboard gives me nice overview. Thx for sharing your project.

Great stuff Brandon - finally a simple tool that can grab stats from both Docker and Docker Swarm without any complicated setup 🙂I am no dev at all, but a future release might have something like a SqLite DB to preserve historical data or integrating with Grafana? Surely not important for my homelab, but I surely see the potential in this little gem of yours. Thanks a lot for your efforts and keep up the good work - highly appreciated..!! 🙂

I don't like containers because a lot of vendors are using to make their products that were open source, close source. I have a number of them that forcing you to use containers because they know a lot of folks can't view their code any more.

They may have made their desktop program free, but they keep moving its location and burying it so that for most, it is impossible to find... and it doesn't look like it is getting updates. So if you are on Windows or Mac it might be an option if you can find it. As for ESX ... Switched to Proxmox and have never been happier. XCP-ng just didn't cut it when we did our POC and for our purposes functions as well as a woke leftist at a Trump rally😂 (always melting down!). Hope that helps.
