Also, I've just got myself a GT-AX6000 that runs Merlin and I love the way it's able to run a VPN that can serve individual devices whilst all other devices use the normal Internet feed. I use a virtual static IP address for a VoIP device because my ISP is 4G (via a Zyxel LTE5388-M8O4) so I don't have a public IP address. My GT-AX6000 has been running flawlessly for a week now and it will serve me well for years to come. 😊

I also used the AX86U with my AXE11000 and it's a killer combination. I had some weird connectivity problems when using the AXE as the main router so I used the AX86U as the main router and the AXE as the AI node. Turns out it was just an issue with some legacy devices having some issues with how the AXE setup it's wifi (not quick connect but something else I never figured out) Those devices are gone now and although I've tested the AXE as the main router with no issues, I put it in the closet and went to a unifi dream machine pro and a couple of the unifi Wifi6 AP's. Turns out that's not perfect either and while it has a lot of flexibility, I'm now getting lots of random latency and wifi cameras are showing poor signal despite being within unobstructed eye view of the AP's. I have the new AXE16000 on the way and am planning on setting it up as the main router and the AXE11000 as the node with perhaps the AX86U in another part of the house that could use a stronger signal but honestly, these ASUS AXE routers are by FAR the most powerful routers I've ever tested or used. Nothing even comes close.

Totally agree with you on everything because I've experienced the same issues. Recently i upgraded to the AX11000 Pro and this one has been much better then my AXE11000. Also, I am now using my AXE11000 as a mesh node and somehow I'm getting over 1000 Mbps down on its 6Ghz connection where I wasn't hitting it before when it was my main router lol.

WARNING!!!!! If you're in the Middle east, EU, UK beware, the ASUS Routers do not have channels (149 - 165), they have been doing this for quite a long time. I just bought this GT- AXE11000. The ASUS AXE-11000 (250mW) has very weak signal strength compared to the Netgear RAX80 which can run at 1W (1000 mW). You definitely need 149-165 as these channels are rarely used and provide stronger signal strength especially when there are concrete walls in your house.

Very nice informative and entertaining video Behfor! Love it! Probably your dealing with a firmware version which is still not 100%. I did have the same problems with the Asus RT AX 92U. Three years ago I bought a RT AX 92U duo pack to be able to create a mesh network. The network was down on a regular basis and then I had to reestablish the mesh network as well, which was a pain in the *ss: Once the two devices were connected and I put one device back in its place upstairs and switched it back on the mesh network was gone again. Anyways only after two years the firmware version was good enough to have a reliable (mesh) network. I don't have any problems at all anymore. The configuration: Cisco 2940 router in bridge mode. One Asus RT AX 92U router, one Asus RT 92U mesh node, one Asus RT AC 66 mesh node.

I think the dream router would be an Asus quad band 6e, 2-5ghz, 2.4. I would use one of the 5ghz bands for the backhaul and have a dedicated 2.4, 5 and 6e band for my iot devices. For now I love my 3-ROG AX110000 routers in a mesh network. The only way around this is to go wired with no backhaul and have the same options but that was not an option for me.

I just moved into a 5200 sq ft home and already own a GT-AX11000. I was looking for a asus router to add to make an Aimesh network everything with wired backhaul. Why do you choose ur RT-AX86u as the Router and AXE11000 as the AP? If quality over price as my main concern with 8 people living in the house, what device or devices would you recommend I add (which being the router vs ap), to get the best with all the devices, security Cameras, and iot
@Behfor
@Behfor 2 жыл бұрын
Well the AX86U & AXE11000 have more or less the same specs (except WiFi of course)! The reason I chose the AX86U as the router was because first of all it is rock solid and never goes down (in my experience), also in my network design, the 6 GHz network needs to be on the other side of the house and far from the router, so if I had used the AXE11000 as the router it's 6 GHz WiFI could not have reached there! Now regarding what router you should add to your network, that'll depend on how many bands do you need on the mesh node? If you are using wired backhaul then you are not sacrificing your WiFi for that and you may be fine with even with a dual-band mesh node!? Which in that case the AX86U could be a good choice. If you need to have a Tri-Band node then maybe another AX11000 could be a better choice. At least this is how I would look at it. Thanks.

So I set this up with some Zen Wifi repeaters to cover 5 acres. But the Tri-Band setup is making some devices super sad. Trying to manage devices across G/N and 2.4, 5, 6Ghz over single SSID has been rough. I tried to setup a IoT Wifi just on 2.4Ghz but my Apple Watch just refuses to connect to Wifi. If I turn off the fancy stuff, then Blink quits working. I end up just playing games with everything and finding some happy point for everything. Honestly my 2013 Airport Extremes had better range and reliability. Its not that the Asus isn't working, its just a lot of money for no value.

If your internet plan is higher than 1Gb, look at the Asus RT AX6000. It’s the only router in the price range with a 2.5Gbe WAN as well as 2.5Gbe LAN. I’m paying for 1.2Gbps down and was always capped at 900ish down. After the router upgrade I’m at 1.4Gbps down. You’ll of course need to update your network to support 2.5Gb… upgraded network switch and network cards. If your internet plan is under 1Gb, then it doesn’t matter as much.

My main is the AXE11000 and my node is the AX5400 should I have switched these two and made the 5400 my main and the 11000 the node? @Behfor 2 жыл бұрын
There are different network issues that could be fixed (usually only temporarily) by rebooting the router, one of them is WiFi interference, because rebooting the router can force the router to choose a better channel where there is no/less interference and in this case maybe automatically rebooting the router every week or so could be a good idea because it can make sure you always use the best channels, however in my case the issue is not WiFi interference and it can happen anytime and it just has to be rebooted when it happens and rebooting it automatically cannot necessarily fix the problem. Thanks.

I had many routers and most of them latest ones were all Asus routers. The problem you had was mostly due to CPU overheat of the router due to heat. Problem with these high end router is somehow at some point it's doing many tasks/connection wise. The cooling inside of these routers isn't enough I removed the plastic cap and build a special case of plexiglass with many fans. About 3 fans x 120mm fans (Push) in a box at the top and same at the bottom (Pull) the hot air out. As I noticed where in my house the electricity place is where I put my router and that small room was hot in general. Since I put these self build fans in the place along with the router I have no longer issues with my router. That was the day I figured out these routers do have a heating issue and not proper cooling solution, as the fins are too small for hot air to escape.
