Exchanged my evga 1080 classy for this after reports of acx 3.0 cards catching on fire. I love it so far. It actually cools well on air. I just use a custom fan speed at 70% and my card stays below 60 degrees.

Do you think there a significant difference between the Asus ROG STRIX OC edition ( 90YV09M0-M0NM00) and the non OC edition ( 90YV09M2-M0NM00) in terms of overclock speeds? I know the base and boost clock are different out of the box but can the non OC edition be overclocked manually to the same speeds as the overclocked version and run stable? I'm asking this because there is a considerable price difference between the two cards and I don't want to pay more for clockspeeds which i can achieve by manually overclocking. Ofcourse when it comes to gpu's there is the silicone lottery and you could get a lesser or better chip at random. Did Asus test the chips and put the lesser chips on the non OC cards? If so i wouldn't mind paying the extra money.

Did you test temperatures with stock thermal compound VS the one you applied later?

In the full review the temperatures were recorded before detaching the cooler (stock paste) and then for this video, those temperatures are with Noctua paste applied (since we had to detach the cooler). If you check both there is very little difference.

Ugg ASUS is still doing the power indicator lights... Those tiny lights are actually really bight and stay on when the PC is turned off. I have a PC with two ASUS cards in my small bed room now and when you turn out all the lights those are just bright enough to be a little annoying and shine all the way up to the ceiling in my case with a larger window.

SLI bridges always come with the motherboard, so if your mobo does SLI it should have the bridge bundled with it.

Each fan rotates independently, so at some stages one may stop spinning while the others spin at low-speed etc.

if you look at the pricing of the 980 and the 1080 the 1080 is kinda already at the 980 ti price bracket so it doesn't make any sense for Nvidia to release a 1080 ti for like 150 or so more with double the performance of the 1080 so if there is going to be a higher performing card it's most likely going to be the new titan and titans really aren't worth the price for the performance so buying a a 1080 right now probably isn't a bad idea at all and the potential for sli performance would be pretty crazy

Going off previous releases of the Ti, they usually come many months later - during the interval of the annual release. Whether they will unveil a Ti is another matter. Personally I'll probably move to a 1080 and if and when a Ti appears I'll weigh things up and make a decision as to stay put or step-up.

More heatpipes = more surface area for heat to dissipate = better cooling. The entire die is covered anyway so it doesn't matter that they aren't touching, it just further improves cooling. It also allows the heat to distribute more evenly on all areas of the actual heatsink fins.

Has anyone experienced that the fans do not turn back of after a load. Eg: you play a game for a little time than leave the computer go back to ideal but the fan is still at 100%. I checked it with msi after burner and the asus tweak 2 and it shows it at 40c and the fan speed at 0 even though I saw and heard the fan spinning like hell.???

Thanks - yeah, stock for partner cards is terrible at the moment. I think NVIDIA have intentionally released the Founders Edition earlier so there is a focus on these cards first to maximise on sales.

Another thing is when you do your temps you actually exist out of the game which takes sometimes several seconds in which the temp is dropping. Next time try to ALT-F4 or get a temp overlay while in game.

GPU-Z records the absolute max temperature throughout the gaming sessions, so when I quit the game and read the temperature, that isn't a current reading - its the peak to which the card reached throughout the time playing games.
