The pre applied thermal paste doesnt cover the whole chip
@dannycanahuate12197 жыл бұрын
Forget the thermal paste, it'll spread some. The cooling block doesn't even cover the whole IHS. I learned in pre-K that a circle won't fit on rectangle unless the circle is bigger than the rectangle. The corners of that CPU are gonna be mighty hot. Boo to PCPP for rushing this video and not getting a proper AIO water cooler made for Threadripper (Enermax makes one/the only one right now). Unless they only cared about the sponsorship. No self respecting PC enthusiast willing to spend that kinda skrilla on that pc is gonna overlook the cpu cooler

The only heatsinks I've seen that cover the whole chip are not liquid cooled. I went for the Noctua NH-U9-TR4

Yea, but if you can afford it, I would recommend a mid range system with a 4X SLI Quadros. And if you have a bit more than a decent chunk of money go for your average mid-high end system with a few Teslas.

Just an FYI about screwing down the threadripper itself, you may have to get all 3 screws threaded before tightening down or else you can't get more than one screw threaded. Also the chip comes with a torque wrench. Also I found that the ram slots on the Zenith were pretty hard to get the dimm cards installed, you may not actually get them totally in (which means the PC won't post - just unplug the machine and re-set the ram and everything will work).

@@feelingtardy I bought the Enermax 360 that you're probably thinking about. Mine lasted 2 months before the pump failed. Even during the 2 months it was very loud - even at idle. Temps were between 30-67C. Then the pump stopped working. It idled at 53C... I finally brought it in to the repair shop and that's when they told me the pump was bad. At it's last time running, it idled at 55C and max load was 80C. From a previous build, I had the very same h115i. I put that on to see how it would do with the Threadripper. If it didn't do any better than the Enermax, then I would go with a Noctua . The h115i has been on it since. Idle around 23-27C and max is around 60C. I still don't like the liquid... so will eventually go with the Noctua. Go see the reviews of the Enermax on amazon. Last time I checked the Enermax had 2 of of 5 stars. I'm not the only one who lost money on the Enermax!

Pretty sure this pc was a bit on the noisy side, 2 gpu's with axial "open air" fans do not generally get on well together in the same case. 1 card basically ends up recycling the air the other is dumping so it leads to one always being hotter and louder.
