You can tell he is so happy not only for Steve's curiosity, but the fact he gets to talk about all this technical cooling information with someone who isn't an engineer. It seemed like he was pleasantly surprised and excited at every twist and turn of the conversation.

@alihammad6318
@alihammad6318 12 күн бұрын
@@jon4715 I can a little, I'm an aero eng student. So obviously he already mentioned the velocity distribution is different for the fan across its radius. The other thing that changes is the pressure gradient - the outside of the fan generates more static pressure, the inside generates less. Imagine the shame of the pressure gradient as a dog food bowl - the outside is higher, small inside. When you have a pressure gradient, it can cause some acoustic weirdness and more I don't know about. What the concavity does is it normalizes the pressure gradient, so effectively the resistance to flow of the air is effectively equal across the fan, rather than making the slow moving inner part of the fan blade push through the same resistance as the outside. This should help with acoustics, I'd guess there's more interaction as well and maybe helps the airflow be more consistent.
@3fgy73fg
@3fgy73fg 12 күн бұрын
@@alihammad6318 Thank you for explaining this! Aside from the benefits in cooling, does it increase the total amount of heat pulled out of the heatsink? Like you said, it helps all air move air at a similar speed, but does more air moving through less fins pull more heat than less air moving through longer fins?

30:35 TSMC chips have a really fun property: The substrate is low doped silicon, which means it's transparent to a certain range of infrared light. So when you look at a flip chip on a PCB with a NIR camera, you can see through the silicon and look *at the transistors*.

That's not a good thing. That means their using its thinness to spread its own heat, because if was thicker the thermal properties would suck. It also means it's going to warp with the PCB, with time, heat. It will flex & eventually crack over time. It's "planned obsolescence", right when it breaks the new model will be out.

@kevinerbs2778 completely wrong, because the main PCB isn't holding any weight of the GPU at all. The PCB is basically sandwiched in a cooler and doesn't has any gravity or mechanically force applied on it to warp (except the cooler mounting pressure). If we go further with your intention, then every CPU should die because of the warping especially with Intel LGA 1851. The dies on this CPU are also very thin.
@kevinerbs2778
@kevinerbs2778 13 күн бұрын
weight doesn't matter for fatigue from heat. It stretches from heat & expand from heat. It will shrink from cooling off. So, nothing you said was true at all. The hole reason it's even clamped between it is, because IT WILL SHRINK & EXPAND WIITH IT.

In adition the 5090 being the only card to increase the price makes the 5090 seem to have the worst if any increase in performance/cost. But the 40 series was really bad for non 90 cards so, all in all nothing revolutionary if you were to compare every other gen 10, 30, 50. edit: I just checked the NVIDIA site and theyve changed the graphs, so now the 5090 does appear to have signifigantly bigger generational RT performance, I just can't with NVIDIA. But at least its only 8 days left till the review embargo so we can get some actual benchmarks.

I see this as more of a planned obsolescence strategy. Sure, it works wonders when new, but for longevity, I'd rather get Asus's cards with less-conductive, but WAY more durable phase change material instead. Considering how many heavy, three slot + cards are suffering from cracked locking tab on the pci-e slot, or cracked solder joints (ripped pars) under chips, due to sag or improper handling, this easily detachable pci-e connector is a great idea, not only you can replace it (hopefully they'll sell the parts) it also more rigid (made of metal) and sag will no longer affect the pcb and connection with memory chips or the gpu core. And on top of all that, the board itself is small, means more rigid and the bulk of the structure is the heatsink, not the pcb itself. I'm not even talking about ITX custom build options with such a small board. Engineering is impressive.
@yumeN0dengon
@yumeN0dengon 12 күн бұрын
I'm not sure I understand how it's coming together, because it looks like the entire weight of the heatsink is resting on a small piece of PCB connected to the rest of the board by an even smaller connector, with a tiny, thin piece of metal serving to bring some rigidity in that area. That doesn't look robust at all to me. What am I missing? EDIT: it looks like it's screwed into the board's backplate as well, which is no doubt much stronger than the thin plate I was talking about, but it's still a smaller area experiencing the strain gravity.
