Hey. Gonna share my trick. On mess like this i use super glue (not gel) and baking soda to fix brass in place. It gets harden in second and bond is so strong that's hard to cut with scalpel. Place brass in place, bit of baking soda around brass and drop few drops of glue on it. It will be stronger then original.

Hot glue is not a proper way to fix hinge attachments in my opinion. You can use it to fix some minor cracks on the case (but not near any heat sources!) etc. but that will not hold the hinges for long. I've repaired these a lot and you have to take off the hinges, clean and sand the cover plastic and use for example some professional grade fiber reinforced 2 component adhesive to reimplant the screw anchors to the cover / frame. This way the display can also still be disassembled easily if necessary for panel replacement etc. If the cover or frame is that badly damaged we change those parts if available and reasonably priced (usually you can find almost any parts at least from used donor laptops). In this case I most certainly would have replaced the display cover parts. If the cover is severely damaged and not replaceable we use the adhesive to attach the sanded hinge to a larger area of sanded cover in addition to screwing the hinges to the reimplanted screw anchors. This way it will be stronger than new. We also reinforce the remaining sheaths around the other hinge screw anchors that are still on their places (on both sides) since they also have starting cracks on them almost always in practice. With a proper 2-component fiber filler we can even fix broken screw holes/tunnels. This method is more laboursome and preparations (cleaning and sanding of the surfaces) are vital but if properly learned is quite swift and easy task and the result will be better than new. The only real downside is that all the high quality 2-component adhesives require a 24 hour curing period. I would provide some pictures but YT does not support them in comments. This hot glue method is something that does not meet our quality requirements on our repairs. I understand that this one was probably a very cheap repair and that is why the result is also not that polished or long term necessarily. Also this laptop was a very cheap model so a quick and cheap fix was probably the only reasonable possibility. We would not have done this repair this way, too uncertain. We give at least 6 months warranty for repairs like this. And whine all you want Sorin fans (he is excellent with electronics!) but Sorin asked him self how would you fix this. This is how we do it and we have proved this to be the best method in practice with over 30 years career of fixing electronics, mobile devices etc. One of my colleagues offers a cheap and bomb-proof, not that polished fix for these problems for his customers: He fixes the hinges by installing new screws all the way through the whole frame of the laptop / display casing. Not that sophisticated or stylish solution but very fast, easy and inexpensive but still very sound😁 He just needs a selection of suitable screws, nuts and washers and a mini drill. Thats all.

Hey Sorin, love how you take on any job and manage to fix it even though a large majority would probably say no! Here's possibly a better solution to fix broken plastics and hinges that I've been using for years. You can use superglue, once you place the super glue sprinkle a little bit of baking soda on it and it will make a super-strong bond. The baking soda acts as a catalyst/accelerant and makes the drying process almost instant, give it a try next time you're repairing a broken hinge laptop.
@nufcbob2 жыл бұрын
I find using epoxy resin to rebuild the mounts and clamping everything in place is a great way to do this.
@beogeek2 жыл бұрын
@@nufcbob I've tried epoxy, it's OK but curing time is too long. When you're on the clock you don't have time to mix the glue and then have to wait hours for it to cure. But when I'm working on my boat then epoxy is my go to!

So I ask you: can this voltage difference damage my notebook? Grateful for the attention.
