This is a very good reason. When dropping over $1500 on a laptop (US), some need it have it support more than 16GB of RAM. To be honest, even 32GB is cutting is close.

This laptop is expensive for the same reason the XPS 15 and MacBook Pro 16 are with the XPS 15 having a GTX 1650 ti for £2000. They offer good battery life, speakers, screen, keyboard, trackpad, usb-c charging and are thin and light. You will notice these things when using these laptops for 10+ hours a day for normal tasks (when not gaming) and these benefits are far more valuable than 10 more FPS to me. Of course some people only get gaming laptops to game and they probably shouldn't get this.

Look if they want to go with editors pc or write a play pc that is cool. But this is advertised as a gaming machine. We expect gaming stuff. So yeah he is right to point deception and warn the buyers. Also this stuff runs hot with any task, that should be taking into consideration. Touching a scalding hot keyboard gets really old fast.

@@trowawayacc it's a dumb idea to make gaming-only laptops, they're usually chunky, glitchy, not durable, tacky, but the have the "POWEEERRRR". Good luck leaving home with it tho, just get a PC. People nowadays play games, but also live life, need to study etc, and this thin and light laptop is perfect for that. Just because it has good quality and other features besides gaming doesn't make it NOT a gaming laptop, it just makes it a gaming laptop for people with lives.

It might be because people are looking mainly at the price/performance ratio. But you are right that a lower TDP has its advantages (thermals, power consumption, etc.)

Awesome video mate. :) I kind of feel like the whole mobile RTX lineup is just a way for companies to markup higher prices. You are basically getting various variations of desktop RTX3060/Ti performance depending on the wattage. But you are paying a premium for a sticker.

In Germany we have the G15 GA503RS. It has a 240hz display with the same specs as yours as well as a 120W RTX3080 which is paired with a Ryzen 6800HS Rembrandt + 32GB Ram + 1TB.. All at the low price of 1800€! Insane what value these Laptops provide!!

I love lack of webcam. Its a marketing thing form me i have a better webcam. Don’t need a crappy mic or speakers either. That is what gaming headphones are for.

A totally decent Webcam is $50. And like David I prefer removable. Either way though the sort of person interested in this class of machine wouldn't flinch at missing a junk built in cam they'd probably want a better one anyway.

But now when I have it I'm completely satisfied. They were sold out very fast in my country, so the quickest get the best))

I'm curious as to what your use case on the laptop is, if you don't mind answering. I have this laptop with the 3070 and I hate it more than any other laptop I have owned. I got mine in the first shipment of them to consumers and the issues have been numerous. I could write a book about them but instead, I'm more curious as to what people are using it for.

@@dfuebermann1 Hi, can you name these issues please? I think there might have been issues with the first shipment, and I heard about them. My laptop was produced in spring 2021 so I might not have these problems. I had the following issues with my laptop: 1 a couple of times it started rebooting by itself, 2 I had problems with wireless connection. After one of the reboots my laptop didn't see bluetooth and wifi. The drivers on Mediatech didn't work, I got a mistake 10 that showed that the drivers couldn't be installed. I tried rebooting and reinstalling the drivers so many times, but there was no result. I was very disappointed and wanted to go to a service center. But in a couple of days after a reboot everything started working again without me doing anything. The rest is ok with my everyday tasks. It works fine.

@@elena_vogni Apologies if this duplicates, I tried responding on my mobile but I don't think it posted. My primary issue for now is that the bezel is coming off of the screen where the exhaust blows, at the bottom right. This started barely a week into use, where all i had done was some basic testing to see how well the laptop was running. So a few benchmarks for some games I play as well as productivity software I use. My other big issues seem to have been resolved with a BIOS update, however the issues there were any time I plugged in a USB keyboard or mouse, I would have to reboot the system in order for them to work. And when I did reboot, the built-in trackpad and keyboard would then stop functioning, even if I unplugged the mouse/keyboard. The only fix was to reboot the system again without them being plugged in. The screen is also much less brighter than I was expecting. My old laptop has at least 100 nits brighter than this one, and it makes working with text (coding and databases) very frustrating after a few hours. The laptop will also sometimes randomly kick up the fans while just doing basic browsing in email or on sites like Reddit. The fan will often get stuck in a loop where it is running, then shutting off every few seconds, which is very annoying. The only real fix I have found is to change the performance to Silent mode. And then finally the laptop will sometimes randomly switch between "Default" and "Performance" modes profiles every 2-3 seconds while the laptop is plugged in. Rebooting seems to be the only solution I have found for this issue thus far. And finally the Aura profile constantly loses the color pallet profile I have set for static keyboard LED color. I am not a fan of the constant changing colors on the keyboard so I have set it static, but for some reason it randomly seems to forget after a reboot and I have to go and set the static color again before it will remember it was supposed to be doing it in the settings and then change automatically when I get back to the screen to select the correct color. Thank you for your reply! I was genuinely curious how others are using this laptop and if their use case for it may be vastly different from mine.

​@@dfuebermann1 Hi, thanks for this message. I will give some of my comments here. 1) About the bezel. I don't have this problem. I've been using the laptop for over a month. I didn't run any tests, because I'm not interested in them. All I need is photoshop, OBS, video rendering and it should be quick. 2) About USB keyboard. I have a usb mouse and I've never had this issue, sorry. I plugged it and it started working immediately. 3) The screen is bright enough for me. My old screen was not as bright as this one. My old one was 250 nits, this one is 300 nits (if I'm not mistaken). I use my screen at 70% brightness. 4) My laptop also sometimes turns on fans when I'm using Google chrome. When I use Opera or Firefox, I don't have this problem. I think it's Google's problem. Their browser also demands lots of RAM (with my scenario). 5) My browser never switched between "Default" and "Performance" modes by itself. At least, I didn't notice it. 6) I can't say anything about Aura, because I have only white color. I deleted this application, because I don't need it. I hope my experience helped you. Maybe ASUS did some work and improved this model.

Only 16gb of ram and 1080p on the strix is a dealbreaker though, it's so un future proof. Given that the new console generation has just come out and those specs are going to be targeted by devs for the next 5-10 years, this is a really good time to buy an extremely future proof laptop. 16GB is not even present-proof, I rack up 22gb just on firefox tabs nowadays. 1080p too. If they put a qhd screen on that, I would consider upgrading the RAM to 32gb and saving the money, but at the extra £150 for the ram (which is out of stock anyway) and however expensive that screen is (probably several hundred), the gap is becoming smaller and smaller. Even then I would have to weigh up the gaudy cheaper one with the flimsy looking screen vs the much lighter, cleaner, thinner laptop with a better CPU and more cuda cores in the gpu.

Actually i need advice on this matter, I need a laptop with good gpu as I want to go in deeplearning domain so in a way I only care about tdp and cuda cores. I still have 7 months to buy a laptop and so far was debating between g15 and m16 but in comments I found out about strix g15 and legion 7. So considering that what should I go for? I will probably go with rtx 3070 version as I feel 3080 laptop variant is just not worth it(less performance and more money). Also I am going for a masters program related to ai so things like webcam and 15 inch screen matters a lot. Thanx

@@GiroYT bro that depends on what's ur need, iam going into university for data science masters, so to do ai related work I need powerful gpu, that's why I am going for such expensive laptop. So for now, identify ur need, is ur work cpu centric or gpu centric. Remember no laptop is future proof, every laptop get old or slow after 4-5yearsyof usage. So u can buy cheap one now and then when u r working a job, u can go for expensive one

Great review thank you. I went for a Legion 7 (5800h, rtx3070 - 140tdp version). This was after I sent back a Zephyrus duo (5900hx, rtx3080). The Legion 7 is superb and very well built. It actually has better thermals and fps in most games than my zephyrus did. All for £1450 with a Lenovo student discount (the zephyrus duo was £3500)

@@FunFactsAboutTech I'm just saying there still is some major issues. More cases keep popping up on forums and reddit over the hinges since Lenovo is still having issues with the new 7 models. They're still using glue on the 7. You'd think Lenovo would just implement the 5 Pro hinges on all their models instead of cheaping out. I mean, even ASUS (which usually has a worse reputation) has decided to make quality hinges for every model. It's not a big cost, and it's not a size issue. Lenovo is just clearly not choosing to. It's also still a headscratcher that Lenovo's trackpad isn't as premium as it's competitors despite the same price or slightly higher price. If Lenovo would just fix the hinges on all models and get a glass trackpad it could be #1.

@John Michaels I didn't buy yet, I am waiting for legion 7(rtx 3070 model). It is not available in India yet. I will buy either msi ge66 or legion 7, both rtx 3070 model. I am preferring Intel bcoz of its thunderbolt 4 and more open source support for machine learning libraries. Not planning to buy g15 bcoz of no webcam(I am a college student) but if there are no other options left then I might buy it as its the cheapest out of all the options that I have

I would by reckon that unless laptops go back to being super thick and chunky that can handle a 3080m or a 3090m in terms of power mobile laptops should stop at a 3070 and even that is stretching it a bit

I got an HP Omen 15 with the 3060, i totally agree that 3070 is the line because the 3060 is enough for literally anything. It's kind of pointless to go beyond it for a laptop, unless you plan on getting a 4k screen or over 144 FPS, which is unnecessary if you have the needs of a laptop gamer

I picked up an Acer Nitro 5 17" (2021) with the R7 5800H, 32GB RAM, and RTX 3080 (100W) for £1200. 300Hz 1080p screen and 2TB SSD. Can't complain!

If you’re still looking to increase wattage, you can flash a vbios from another laptop (such as 115w) to drastically increase performance.

It's definitely something I want to, and mean to do. I'm a one man band at the moment, and struggle with both mental and physical disabilities, so trying to create 5 pieces of content a week, work with manufacturers, run socials and our Discord and still have time and energy to do the basic stuff like eat and clean up is tough. On the clickbait side of things, I'd love to not have to and name things normally. Unfortunately if I don't, the videos do significantly worse. I try my best to strike a balance between 'clickable' and actually truthful, but I'd love to hear your thoughts on which titles rub you the wrong way so I can try and steer more towards the 'sensible' side. Comparing Zephyrus G15 to Strix G15 is so stupid! Why dont you also compare it to a pc, it will be much cheaper and perform much better. But it's a big box with a big fan that is not a laptop. Strix is also not a laptop! It's a small pc with a keyboard and screen. Zephyrus G15 is the most laptop like gaming laptop of them all. And also it's very powerful while being slim. Don't get why you even made this video!
