My soul! I was there! Pilton1982. I was 18, and Aswad were the first proper reggae band I ever saw live. I danced my f*cking arse off! Tripping out of my head. This is pure, a-grade liquid nostalgia.

I lived and worked in London, for Lambeth council, from 1979-1983. These guys were at the height of their popularity. Brinsley Forde starred in Babylon, fantastic movie (1980). Great times to be young!

I was in that crowd ! Glastonbury back in the 80's, the days when you could still easily bunk in (over one small fence). Proud to have Cliffton "Bigga" Morrison (keyboards) and Martin "Tatta" Augustine (guitar) as good friends for over 40 years. One Love All. 👊🏼👊🏼

It's not our wish we should fight... Aswad's golden years, I was there in the crowd for this one, still have the ticket stubb somewhere, must have been all of £25 to get in (if we paid at all) more likely we got in through a hole in the hedge ! think I'm joking? A far different festival then where the peace symbol still adorned the top of the pyramid stage. Glad I was around for the best era of this great fest.
@newforestpixie52977 жыл бұрын
Andy Ballard my chum & me dog was shown a hole in the hedge by some friendly crusties ,whereas i'd paid £ 28 ,in 1986 . I think the wall went up soon after . Only remember The Cure who was headlining whom were fab but i can honestly say the best vibe / atmosphere at any famous bands i saw iin the 80s was Aswad / Misty in Roots at southampton guildhall around 85 ( & Ian Gillan Band in 81 at soton gaumont). The Aswad show had voddy and big smokes being passed amongst the crowd - cool as fuck 😎love from the swanky new forest

Better times could have a Empowering Black band a confederate flag flying in the audiance free of Security goons. Real honest live music and the crowd swept away by what ever band rocked up on the stage , life being lived in the moment unlike today when social media judgment calls dictates much of the flow.

I think back in the 80s there wasn't so much tension. the confederate flag was washed by motorcycle bands, rockstars, even the dukes of hazzard ride a dodge charger with the flag on top. Before I learned history I always thought it was a symbol of wild adventure/freedom.
