Help our own first and spread the homeless shelters and resources into the cheapest places in Ontario. You have no Charter right to live in the fanciest cities in Canada regardless of your economic status just because you like it more there. If you want to walk around Bay and live in Rosedale or Old Thornhill then earn your way there. If you can’t than the cheapest “homeless city” the government can create somewhere is where you belong.

@@metanomena It’s a real shame that is. Even more insulting when some of these people feeling entitled to refuge in Western/European countries are disgustingly and hypocritically proud of their oppressive cultures. It’s just sour grapes their people lost the conflict and couldn’t do the oppressing. It’s OK for the Zulus or Mogul Empire to loot but the Brits hell no! It’s OK for the Inca/Aztec to have enslaved back then but any enslavement by the Spanish was wrong! It’s OK for Imperial China to occupy other states as vassals but when Japan does it a few decades later that is fundamentally unjust! Give me a break. As the English courts have said on the principle of equity: he who lives by the sword must die by it. Modern version courtesy of Tupac is “live by the gun, die by the gun.” No sympathy for oppressors that were oppressed and now still dream as wannabe oppressors.

Argument and rant for the day is the politicians need to stop politicizing the homeless people. As an Indigenous women, our ancestors in the past has welcomed strangers on our sacred lands, we gave them shelter, food and clothing. In return many of our people today find themselves homeless. While these strangers are living in on our sacred lands while many of our people are homeless living across Canada. So who is intitled to shelter and the best places to live and what do these people look like. I think that over the last 20 years the quality of life for many Canadian people is not getting better. For many life is getting harder just to keep food on their table, roof over their head and clothes to wear. Many families do not have money to pay for education or save for retirement. And most people are just one paycheck to being homeless. Homeless people are not just skin-based problem it's everyones problem, with so many people who are living on the streets across Canada who gets the housing first. Toronto, Vancouver, Halifax and other provinces are finding themselves in a bind with no money to pay for their own people who are finding themselves displaced from fires, floods, lost of income has been very hard since before COVID-19. Since COVID-19 the homeless rates has gone up across Canada, there are so many people who are living on the streets, parks and were everywhere they can lay their heads. You will see that many people homes are tents or tarpaulin strung up. On top of that Canada and United States dollars are not backed by gold anymore, and both of these countries are heavily in debt. Also there is talk about out dollars collapsing and moving to a gold standard around the world. On top of our financial problems, many people traveling from their homelands looking for a better life they are crossing our borders, and they are not coming through the proper channels hoping to jump the line of those people who are ahead of them. The people who are coming illegally, feel intitled that they should jump the que and they do not care about others just their needs. In the mean time there are people from their countrys who are doing extremely well, they could or should fundraise funds for their fellow country members as a way to pay forward. They must learn to give back. Yes our governments could give more, but these systems is only supports corporations and their corruption, so that only a few are on top. Every one has a part to play.

I have little sympathy for the refugees. Most refugees came here on their OWN dollar, or paid to get here through human smuggling networks, or had sponsors that ended up getting them here illegally. The Roxham road loophole caused this much trouble, they knew how to get here and how to jump the queue to get to stay here in Canada. They wanted a better life in Canada and had the means to come here to look for it. Now they are in a massively overcrowded city that cant house them, a massively overcrowded refugee system, a massively overcrowded homeless shelter, and a federal government that doubled their national debt for a health crisis that wasnt as serious as they claimed. We have little money to take care of them now because they overwhelmed the system. Toronto was on the verge of bankruptcy many years ago, and now that theres a bunch of refugees in the system compounded by a federal government that increased immigration with over 35% of them moving to the Toronto area, Toronto doesnt have the money to keep up with the demand. Toronto may very well declare bankruptcy. I hope they do, it means housing prices will drop in the city thats the 5th most expensive place to live in the world. I really only feel bad for the ones that wanted to come here, had no money and were brought here on OUR dollar, that were properly checked out by our government. The rest of them that were sent here on a false promise by human smuggling networks can stay homeless.

Prime Minister Trudeau has issued CAD$1 millions of support revenue to the Provinces of Quebec and Ontario. Now the question remains, where is this support money? No new shelters are opening up to handle the refugees or the current people living in the tents downtown. No provisions for security inside the shelters currently operating is being seen, still witnessing violence, drug use, and prostitution within these facilities. Men and women are placed in a dormitory style accommodation, no privacy.

I came as refugee 2001 with $525 per month welfare. Me and 4 others got 1 bedroom apartment. Once I got my work permit I went to work at food terminal 4 am. Now a days these refugees have entitlement. They want housing, welfare, and everything else.

Questions for all the little fascist xenophobes: 1) Do you actually support the measures that would be necessary to end homelessness in Canada? Those measures might include but not be limited to: implement a required living wage (minimum wage is NOT a living wage), UBI, rent control, massive government investment in socialized housing, vacant property taxes, abolishing exclusionary-zoning to allow densification in former single family home areas. 2) Do you understand we can end homelessness in Canada AND support refugees, AT THE SAME TIME? It's not "either/or."
