As a single parent for the past 12 years I have dedicated my whole life and attention to my two daughters but now they are teenagers they no longer need me in their life. I have become a nobody to them and I am crying everyday of loneliness and the thought of never having focused on myself. Today I sit all alone at the age of 49 and think it’s either God gives me some sort of peace or take my life and give it to someone more deserving. Anyone reading this, please pay attention to yourself no matter what because you are worth much more than you think. I was amazed to learn that some parent birds transport water to their babies via their belly feathers. Now, when I see birds visiting a birdbath, I wonder if this is what they are doing. Nature is just wonderful. Thank you for posting this clip, it’s so nice to see the different kinds of birds you have in both your country and location. Much appreciated. Regards, Eve 🐿 p.s My father had several bird baths, and he was always sure to fill them up as needed. As he got older he couldn’t walk around to do this anymore, so on the one he watched from the window and deck we set up a little tap for him. We ran a hose from the side faucet up to his deck railing, and added a tap lever. This then ran all the way to the big birdbath so he could refill it whenever he needed to. It was such a great idea and in the hot Australian bush land summers, became a popular stopping place for all sorts of wildlife.

I try and look for smooth, white bird baths, because that makes it much easier to tell if the water is dirty. Dark colors and mosaics are the worst for seeing dirt. Birds are the only creatures that will see these designs and I doubt they care about the design inside the BB. The crevices around an interior design inside a bowl are also the most likely place for mold to begin growing and these crevices also make it much harder to clean the bowl. (If you don't care about dirty water it doesn't matter.) I also keep a tightly wound handle strainer hung-up near the bird bath and use that to clean very minute debris and birdcrap out of the birdbath between changes of the water. (I buy 3 or 4 at a time at the dollar store) I change the water at least once a day. Some species of birds like doves and sparrows will crap in the water on a regular basis. I try and remove it while it is still fresh and intact. I went to a Lowes to buy a birdbath recently and I was very surprised to see that most of them were designed very poorly in my opinion. But I guess a lot of people buying their first birdbaths are novices who are more impressed by aesthetics than the utility of the design(?) I never use my clay/pottery/cement bird baths in the winter. The constant pressure on the sides from freezing ice at night and thawing during daylight will cause these bird baths to disintegrate much sooner than they should. I'm only aware of this because it happened to a neighbor of mine. I use a heated, white, plastic bird birdbath in the winter but I don't fill it up too high because the water on the lip will freeze. I thought the heater had stopped working until realized I was filling it too high. I try and remember to turn it off and empty it at night to save energy but sometimes I forget to do this. But I live in the suburbs of Philadelphia and people in warmer climates probably don't have to worry about this. WRZ Delaware County, PA

Calming and well shot video! I do have two questions though: 1: Why do you have a rock in the bird bath? 2: Why does the dove stretch(?) one wing at a time?
@natbel72615 жыл бұрын
1. In according to recommendations how to attract birds to the birdbath (you can find them on internet), a rock helps birds to estimate the depth of water. As far as I could see, yes, they are less afraid to get into the water from the rock. Later, the rock can be removed. 2. Like cormorants they clean and dry their wings (google it). Why one - what I observed they select the angle when maximum sun is on the wing. With two wings, it would be impossible.
