Astonishing! An amazing pianist, performance and brilliant arrangement of these songs. Such a humble man that always shows gratefulness and love in his words and his performances. He's my most favorite. ❤️🎹🎶🎵🎉

I really appreciated Roger Williams' kindly taking time out of his busy schedule to autograph and send me a brand-new "old stock" album of "Your Evening With Roger Williams" for just 20 bucks. It is a long-out-of-print title that I was really pleased to have. Thank you for honoring me, Mr. Williams --- R.I.P. :)

Roger was my Godfather. His father, a Lutheran minister in Des Moines, and my grandfather, Carl T. Ostrem, Sr., a dentist in Des Moines and a member of Pastor Wertz's church (Roger Williams is a stage name; he was born Louis (Louie) Wertz) were best of friends. When I, Carl T. Ostrem, III, was born in Iowa City in 1951, he asked Roger if he would be my Godfather. He held me at the baptism. He was more amazing than most people will ever know. He was a Golden Gloves boxer (had to have his hands insured with Lloyd's of London). (Did you notice, after his performance and he went up to Paul to shake hands how he did a feint/head-bob? Classic fighter instinct. (I was a Martial Arts instructor for thirty years, so I notice things like that.) Played thirteen or fourteen other instruments. Some of them very well. He loved to ride motorcycles, but was discouraged from doing so as it might hurt his hands (and career). I'll stop here, but hadn't seen this video and wanted to honor him and his talent and his friendship with the family, which he thought was very important. Thanks for listening to his music, and thanks to his grandson for filming and sharing. I last saw him live about twenty-five years ago when he played at a theater in Aurora, Illinois.

Yes, Roger was quite an amazing man and thank you so much for sharing your intimate story! How very special that his family was close friends of yours and he was your godfather! Once he actually slipped on oil with his motorcycle and his hands were embedded with gravel that had to be removed with tweezers...ouch! That ended that sport quickly! Your enlightenment about the head-bob is fascinating! Thanks again.

I cried. Some of his piano pieces especially Chopin was performed by my son, Brian, at Paco Park presents, a werkly televised performance in the Philippines That was 24 years ago. Such memories. Time can never be recalled He is now 43 years old. He never played the piano again. He is now in the States. Just reminiscing

@tedostrem3907 I actually did several months on tour with him and his 18 piece Autumn Leaves Orchestra. Steinway sent their 500,000th piano out on the road with him, and I was the designated truck driver/piano mover/etc. It was a lot of fun. And yes, he was a great man and very appreciative of everyone . He was 79 at the time and didn't miss a beat.

The drummer's expression says it all about Roger at 10:54. I've smiled and shook my head at him too. Not very long before Roger's death, I had the supreme privilege of seeing him in concert at the King Concert Hall at SUNY Fredonia. Well into his 80s at the time, he had lost absolutely nothing...amazing talent still on display, fingers still the most nimble ever, and his wonderful sense of humor. What a gift.

He asked me to sing twice in 2004 at President Jimmy Carter's Birthday, which was also his birthday. They were born the same year, month, and day. He was wonderful. He changed Hawaiian shirts every hour or so. There were 80 long stemmed roses he passed out at 11 pm when he had finished an 11 hour concert at the age of 80. HIs family was there. There were no mistakes in his playing the 6 hours I listened to him. There were over 300 people who stayed until the end when his marathon was over. He was so impressive. He had no performance anxiety. I just remember that he started out with the same label as Jane Morgan.

I searched thru many versions of Autumn Leaves on KZbin looking for that piano run he does. To me, the song doesn’t sound right without it. I don’t know why others don’t do it. I guess it was his signature thing.

Like the Roger Williams Gold Limited Edition Piano created by Joseph Sidorowicz, the Autumn Leaves Steinway Piano is created by Frank Pollaro. In fact, he is one of the leading veneer craftsman in the United States today. He is known for his complex veneer and inlaid designs, and his furniture has been featured in the Neuberger Museum at SUNY Purchase, on television, and in numerous publications. Mr. Pollaro has designed many art case pianos for Steinway & Sons. One of these is an Art Deco design that can now be seen and heard in the Petrossian Lounge at the Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada. In 1999, Mr Pollaro designed the midnight blue "Rhapsody" Steinway honoring Steinway artist George Gershwin. His art case piano, "Diamonds on Satin," demonstrates that Mr. Pollaro's creative talents take design to an inspired level. In 2004, Mr. Pollaro designed the tribute to Steinway Artist Roger Williams, entitled "Autumn Leaves." one of Pollaro's latest design is the Steinway's 600,000th piano. Please visit his website, Pollaro Custom Furniture (pollaro.com/portfolio/pianos) on Portfolio page to see the picture of all 16 art case pianos Frank Pollaro ever makes! I am pleased to see any art case pianos from old Steinway website (steinway.com) Pollaro Custom Furniture. :)
