I think that there’s a misunderstanding. It’s a comedy with some serious under tones. They went to great lengths to emphasize that the two leads never so much as kissed because he was under 18. The lead grew from being a jerk to a pretty decent and caring guy. She, who had spent most of her teenage years working and taking care of her father, finally started having the “fun” that she missed. There were a couple of side stories that worked out. I thoroughly enjoyed it and laughed out loud more than once.

Kind of like the US having varying ages of consent via states' rights, but the federal government considers anyone under 18 a minor & therefore incapable of consent. There's talks of laws where the age gaps are being considered to protect young couples. Say the law says age of consent was 16 but the partner was 35. That's vastly differnt from a 15yr old dating a 18yr old. Still they're both dating a minor under the age of consent.

General rule of thumb for me. If the roles were reversed, would I be grossed out? If a movie were made about a 27 year old man falling in love with a 17 year old girl, I would be grossed out, especially if it's presented in a positive way (unlike something Lolita, which clearly paints the man in a negative light). I met my partner when I was 30 and he had just turned 20. I was had recently split with my husband and had a two year old little girl at the time. And let me tell you something...my ex husband was almost 10 years older than me and yet my partner (who is about 20 years younger than my ex) was a far better and decent partner and dad to my little girl. We celebrated our 15th anniversary in February and we are happy and so in love. We don't argue, we respect each other and just want to be together. So is what is wrong with that?!

But your relationship is not the same as the one depicted in this series. The age difference isn't what matters. What matters is the fact that the boy is 17 years old. I'm not sure where you live, but in most parts of the US, 17 years old is still considered a minor, and an adult pursuing a relationship with a minor 10 years younger than them is sick. If the boy was a 20 year old man and the female lead was 30, then I would have no issue with this series.

Honestly the fact he was so mature for his age was important and he had come from a family of 15 brothers and sisters so he had, as one of the oldest brothers, responsibilities to look after the younger kids. And he has been an amazing dad to our daughter - taught her to ride her first bike, we'd read her bedtime stories every night and he has never said anything about paying and contributing to her upbringing . Compared to her real dad, my ex, who charged me for babysitting her when we were still married and living together!

Three tropes I hate about this kind of plot you sometimes see... Protag is like literally never forced to do anything. Ruined an expensive painting? Mmkay, lesson learned. Pay the consequence, don't go home with strangers. It's how the world works. Rich family: hears a commoners back story 🥺 (As if they've never heard of such a thing and suddenly has a change of heart to maybe care towards others. Or shows special treatment to protag and everyone else is still garbage.) Rich protag character: is the biggest meddler known to the history of humankind.
