Bernie, the first time I heard of your name and heard you speak was in a video in early 2015 from a university classroom in Texas, talking to students... I have never forgotten what you said. "The problems that we face did not come down from the heavens. They are made by bad human decisions, and good human decisions can change them." I had always been politically inactive and jaded, but like a light bulb going off I understood our problems to be an issue of organizing our society better, and fighting the everpresent problem of legalized bribery a.k.a financial corruption sapping the political will to do better for American citizens. After you announced in early 2015, I signed up to volunteer for your campaign and thought of it as a serious commitment akin to having enlisted in the Air Force at a younger age. You were at 3% in the national polls at the beginning, then we ignited the Summer of Sanders! I was a supervolunteer and Democratic convention delegate for you. I wish we were currently in Year 7 of a Sanders Presidency and I think about this often. Bless you for fighting the good fight every day and for using your Senate Committee gavel well. Democracy in America died in the Supreme Court chambers in 1976, Buckley v Valeo, when value-bearing money became "Free Speech" for corporations to control all publicly elected seats in our government.

I don't like that he uses the myth of "your taxdollars" He knows that's not how the US dollar works and also it perpetuates the wrong idea. The US economy is absolutely gigantic, so huge that from the perspective of a worker it might as well be infinite. As long as we stay reasonable we can afford anything, the real question is rather or not we should. The US could build an air tight wall around itself but should it? The US can make all gasoline be completely free but should it? The US can give free healthcare to everyone but should it? Unless you're deliberately saying stupid stuff to waste money you can pretty much completely ignore the question of "can we afford it?". In a developed economy like the US or Europe when it comes to people's welfare money is simply not a limitation. The US can give everyone a high standard of living and still have plenty left over. The poverty is the result of policy choices, not lack of means. If you make sure everyone has a good standard of living it becomes a lot harder to exploit people cause they will just quit their job if their boss is a jerk to them. It's harder to manipulate them as they have more time to do research and they no longer have as much anxiety to prey upon. Having more wealth with average people also makes it possible for them to ban together and fiscally overpower the capitalists. Creating a higher standard of living won't mean the elite will have a lower standard of living. They can keep all their material luxuries quite easily but it will significantly reduce their power. The elite wants power, quite often even at the expense of their own happiness. Examples that come to mind are Donald Trump and Elon Musk who have an insatiable lust for power but are both incredibly miserable with their lives.

The problem is the broken election funding system that allows corporations and even foreign nationals (read : Aipac) to buy our elections. Greed has always been around and ain't going anywhere. The only solution is a constitutional amendment limiting campaing donations to individuals with a yearly cap and allowing public financing of elections. @@nathantan752 Don’t worry. Happy to discuss. Bernie had everyone’s attention in 2016 and unbelievable support. What he did with that was to lead an entire generation into supporting the two party system that he knew to be corrupt and a party that has openly rigged a primary election against the people. It was out of alignment with his own stated principles. I could add more to that but he betrayed us and anyone who called it out was slandered and excommunicated from the left. Now, he’s misleading people again. He’s refused to address the Palestine issue for years knowing full well what’s going on. To be fair, his focus has never been on foreign policy. However, what is being left out is the speech mandates that they are implementing here. He’s helping to pacify people while those are in the process of being made enforceable and doesn’t mention them. He’s also not addressing 4th amendment changes that specifically effect American citizens. I see him clearly now and what he’s doing is dangerous.

Senator Bernie Sanders as a bit of fact. When I joined the U.S.M.C. back in December 1969 my parents were buying a 4 bd/2b two story home in a middle class neighborhood. They both had PhDs in education. My father was more educated than the superintendent of his school district teaching the 6th grade and working as the asst. principal. His entire take home salary made the house payment. He was an organizer for the AFT/CTA. Between my parents by the time they retired had over 100yrs of teaching experience. In his retirement he continued to work 40 hrs a week as a real estate agent until the day he died. I don’t have to tell you but as a teacher they didn’t get social security but a negotiated and contributed retirement that was itself taxed. If he defended himself when a student attacked him with a weapon he was the individual whom the police charged.

Americans who oppose a strong social welfare state are clueless. The truth is, when you don't have to worry about going out of pocket for maternity leave, health insurance and child care, you have thousands upon thousands to spend in the economy. This is why the economies of Europe, while not perfect, certainly do quite well when compared to our own. This is the great secret of the social welfare system. The aspect no one seems to talk about yet is the most important thing. Even with a 5% across the board tax increase working people still come out ahead and come out ahead BIG time.
