Yes! I love the look of a home that has been curated over generations. That's why I'm grateful to have many things that have been passed down from my family and that of my husband. So much more character than buying everything new from IKEA.

One flat for 30 years...only added on...crazy great! So much to look at - will have to watch over and over! Beautiful. I'd love to see a floor plan! Alidad has the elements of opulence! A period home fit for a King and Queen with all the bells and whistles to draw you in and keep you in awe. I love the traditional mixed with the modern and the whimsy of the past gives the home a feeling of cozy. I can tell Alidad is OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder) where placement and objects have to be exact and symmetrical in nature. This is a condition of brilliance and to be so gifted allows one to layer beyond mere decorating.

If anyone is looking for good advice about creating a living space for themselves: listen to Mr. Alidad! He knows what he's talking about. I grew up in a house that was occupied by four generations of my family over a period of 57 years and there were items and furniture going back even further. I like the idea of being in one place for a long time and settling in. I was looking through the April 1994 Architectural Digest which is a "Hollywood at Home" issue with LOTS of fascinating reading and photos. Mae West was another who stayed put: she lived in the same two-bedroom apartment for 48 years. Her style was...interesting...and included the mirror over her bed "...where I do my best work". I don't think Mr. Alidad would go for the West style but I'm sure he would appreciate someone else being in their own place for a long time and making it their own unique, individual home.

@@quintessenceblg I'm going to add on a little more here. I wanted to mention a book I'm reading that may be of interest to you if you're not already familiar with it. The book is "Alone Together---A History of New York's Early Apartments" by Elizabeth Collins Cromley published by Cornell University Press in 1990. The book is about how in Manhattan there was such a great need for affordable middle-class housing in the 1800's and how purpose-built apartment houses were introduced. The book is also about how American society had to adjust to something new and that some people even found risky or threatening: a family not living in their own separate and the fear that a family could be harmed by being too much around other people and from not having as much work to do. "Alone Together" is what I would call a History/Sociology book; not fast reading but very informative and that gives historical context and understanding to how many people now live.

Alidad's philosophy is so relatively simple and what makes his style so elegant and grand. I adore his design approach that basically says, "Can't means I won't". In other words, don't stop creating with your best instincts on how you feel a room or an idea should look because decor rules tell you when to stop. I love his approach and ideas and the way he describes them is effortless and easy to follow. I think I just found my decorator guru...

We lived as such until my Mother passed away. My father was a modern architect and the layers were shed for his long awaited esthetic on Marco. Now, I am most happy to have had this visit at Alidad's place, what a genius this man is ! Love, love the art of layering textile, art pieces. In one dining room, which was quite dark, we see, on the mantel, a gorgeous vase showcasing pears and, in both side there are some little vases with gorgeous, bright, lilac flowers ; those brings a spark of brightness and color to the space : génial ! "Think of the female line in your family" he said and he added : " Go with what your heart says" ! Great advice !!! Thank you for the visit. It brought joy to my heart and my inner decorator (smile).
