Everyone should do like what Honda does... have the headlight switch spring back to the "Auto" position whenever you turn it to Off. The headlights and DRLs will turn off in Park, but if you are in gear, the DRLs, headlights and taillights turn on and stay on. Granted you can always turn the switch to the parking lights and drive with your DRLs only, but at least the taillights and license plate are illuminated.

The newer gen Mazda's all do that. It'll spring back to auto when switched to the off position. On top of that, even if if the headlight switch is in the parking position, it still turn on the headllights/tailights when it senses that it's dark enough. So its literally impossible to drive without the headlights off at night. This feature should be a standard on all new cars so we don't have "ghost" cars driving around at night.
