I think Jake knew how much his mom disliked Emily.

Why does everyone need to leave their spouse. He didn't know what they were doing and when he found out he took immediate action. Can we get a little more stories where the married people actually stay together. Not everything in the world is justification for divorce there are people who you know will work things out because their marriage is stronger than the issue at hand. Also why she didn't try to get in touch with her husband do phones not exist did she forget his number I mean come on.

Agreed these endings are bullshit. Why tf does the husband not know something going on in the house while he’s gone equal divorce? Thus makes no sense whatsoever

As much as I sympathize with Emily, she pisses me off at the same time. I'm trying to understand Emily's decision to leave Jake. She straight up blamed him for his family behavior. Jake was blind-sided by what his stepmother had done. He did nothing wrong. He was working and providing for the family and once he found out what happened, took her side and got rid of his family. Majority of the times the husband stays with his mother and sister. BTW, it's Jake's child too. The way this story is being told; Emily is cutting Jake out of their child's life. This community who is embracing her, and not one of them is telling her that she shouldn't be blaming Jake. What she needs his therapy and not the community therapy.

Karen and Sarah have got no one to blame but themselves for neglecting Emily while she's pregnant

This made no sense to me. Emily told Jake that she was leaving him because he neglected her and put her life in danger. First of all, Emily, in my opinion, put her own life in danger. She should have told the stepmother that she would not go in the basement. If Karen and Sarah forced her to go to the basement, then the next day, when she was free to go upstairs, that would have been her chance to go to the neighbors and called the police. The next step would have been to immediately get in contact with Jake. Jake had no idea what Sarah and Karen did to Emily. As soon as he found out, he kicked them both out of the house 🏡. He immediately took action to rectify the situation. I don’t understand why she felt he put her in danger. In my opinion, Emily was a spineless, gullible, doormat who allowed Sarah and Karen to treat her like a dog 🐶. Forgive me for my harsh words. To divorce a man who stood up for you and wanted to make sure you are and would be alright, was mind boggling to me. It just made no sense to me. Maybe I missed something, but I thought Jake went away on a business trip. In my opinion, that didn’t seem like neglect to me. It seems like a number of OP’s in these stories get divorces over the simplest misunderstandings.

Wait did the mother in law and the cousin leave the house for an extended period where OP could gone for help? Why didn't she gone for help and contacted Jake sooner? Why blame Jake? Why did she leave him. He seem he would have returned immediately if he would have know what his mother was doing, Why didn't this Alex guy contacted Jake or the police. Why was the community more important than letting Jake or the police know right away. This story made no sense what so ever.

Emily should have stayed with Jake in the end because even though he wasn't there to see the disaster, he was oblivious to Karen and Sarah's true nature.

What dummy would willing stay in the basement? If she could open the door for a package delivery then she could open the same door and walk out. Also who doesn't have a cell phone? Husbands do go on business trips, but they call home and speak to their wives. She really had no reason to leave her husband. He didn't know about his wife and he threw out his mother when he found out.
