Man, those firefighters were quick! They not only arrived, but ALSO put out that fire within minutes of the first flame! One even saved a lamp.

Worked for the old Pacific Telephone, before the breakup. It always impressed me how fast a behemoth like AT&T could move when the work called for it.

Well Done Pac Bell & and ALL the Bells. Still have Mom's Rotary Dial Phone. Toured the PACBELL OPS BLDG on N. Gower before Sunset in L.A. as a school kid field trip. Saw the Infrastructure build bigger with more cable down So. Gower to the other Office near Santa Monica Blvd. This was during the Cold War. Mom Worked for Lockheed Burbank/Skunkworks. ATT was an integral communication link far beyond what many knew... And was Y2k Compliant. The Internet was alive and well in the 60's and privy only to Defense Contractors, and the Pentagon (DARPA) Thanks Mom for your Service to National Defense. You knew I hated Air Raid Siren Drills, and was afraid, and said I Love you because I feared what You were involved in TS-Q Clearance Programs, including the stuff you took to the Grave. Mom, I Love and Miss You to Smithereens.

The tech advances by companies like Bell, RCA, Westinghouse, and others who are not a big companies anymore, it's staggeri! Communication and analog infrastructure that really started the great technology boom that is still going today. Most of the pioneers are like the folks who worked for them, mostly dead... But it's fascinating what they did and what was created for the era

This system is enhanced by the SAGE project, which is documented in the 60s film "In Your Defense". In here, the manufacturing arm of the Bell Labs, Western Electric, is involved in project management, coordination, and collaboration. Other companies are involved in the SAGE project: IBM, Software Development Corporation, and Burroughs.

The sage system was very impressive. The original mainframes were tube based. National defense brought to you by Ma bell and big blue
@winstonslone27975 ай бұрын
Some of the tube units remained in service after the introduction of transistors. Grand father was career Air force and I loved his stories about the old tech. I ended up with a career in telecom. Imagine that

The part at 8:25 clued me in this was a government propaganda video about how the network can withstand the threat of falling bombs. Also the possibility of an entire city being destroyed wouldn't cause the phone lines to go down ect. We are the government and we have this country wired.

Ridiculous! Only one little nuclear EMP in space over the US will fry the national phone and internet grid in less than a second. And three minutes later you will all be speaking Chinese or Russian or most likely both in heaven. My advice: Learn how to solve differences like grown-ups diplomatically.
@marksides97577 жыл бұрын
These old systems, if they were still in operation, might save us before and after. Now, a systems update can crash half the nation. Our digital age is wayyy more vulnerable to EMP than these old systems.
@robinwells88795 жыл бұрын
You are surely not suggesting that they would have broken the agreement not to use sky burst weapons?! 😉 We used to sneer at their use of vacuum tubes on their aircraft systems until we realised that they were more immune to EMP! Nowadays we would grind to a shuddering halt with little trouble. Thank God there are no enemies out there anymore!
