Of the many amazing things in this two minutes of sublimity is how they avoid doing things in lockstep, seem to be moving independently of each other, and yet end up precisely in time. Without looking at each other, they make many tiny adjustments that lead to synchrony.

I know that Stan Laurel was very much in touch with the fans :) After he retired he spent most of this time answering fan mail and even had his phone number in the phone book and many fans were actually surprised that they could just call him up and he would speak directly with them :) So i think HE at least knew how much beloved he was and i am sure Oliver did too :)

@@zerne7887 Me too :) I have heard personal histories though that in his final years even though he was in Retirement he seemed to enjoy the last years because of his devotion to fans as they must have been the main thing that kept him going :) A sweet personal story i have heard here on youtube was from a woman who as a young girl lived right across the street from him and frequently would vist him with her friends :) She said his wife was not always as welcoming as she wanted peace and quiet but Stanley himself was always kind hearted and friendly and open to inviting them in to talk or something like that :) I know its not a direct response from Stanley himself but if you were wondering how he was doing in his final years then i hope that was a good answer :)

I always felt it's one of the things that makes his physical comedy so great, none of it would have been so funny if he were just a big lumbering oaf. The fact that he had such poise and grace (coupled with his character's self importance) it gave him so much further to fall, which made the payoff of the gags even better, in my opinion...

This scene was portrayed brilliantly in the new movie Stan & Ollie. In County Hospital, you could tell that the scene with Stan and Ollie in the car was being filmed in front of another screen. Here, in the original, this is one of the very few occasions that you can barely tell that the boys are dancing in front of another screen. Superbly done!
@RJSRdg3 жыл бұрын
Whilst I think you can tell it's filmed in front of a screen (simply because of the complexity of what's going on in the background, and a slight hint of a shadow), you can't see the join between the set (which the railings are part of) and the background.
