Was in my last year of High School 1959 when The Fleetwood's sang those songs. They did a wonderful job. Certainly brought back some wonderful memories.

Wouldn't swear to it, but in parts looked like lipsync. Look close at the blond girl singing background to "Try Me" then at 19:10 during "Tears on my Pillow". Those are not the only instances.

I'll give credit to Vic Love and the Sequins for still performing great music at their ages. Unfortunately, with age often comes the degradation of vocals, pitch, and ability to accurately hit some of the higher notes. Still admire, respect and applaud these gentlemen for giving it their best shots and staying young at heart by performing this timeless music. The other performers in the video were holding the tunes down pretty well. Particularly liked seeing the 3 young teenagers singing great harmonies, and nice knowing younger generations have an awareness and appreciation of Doo Wop music!

It wasn’t called Doo Wop until in the 60s
@IfeTheStoryteller7 ай бұрын
It was called doo wop among African Americans in the 50s. The term was not popularized where white society began categorizing it as 'doo wop' until the 60s. That's the same thing that happened to the term, 'rock and roll'. There are a lot of terms and slang used by African Americans that white society didn't learn about until several years afterwards. You have to have belonged to the race or know the culture well to know African American terms and slang.

Wish the gorgeous sounds of African American voices were used in those early doo wop songs in this program, especially since doo wop was invented by African Americans. That would be a wonderful appreciation and commemoration to African American music. It was almost equivalent to foreigners performing African American music. Granted, everybody started imitating the African American groups but they were just that; imitators of African American music. I remember the fellows standing under the streetlights singing. It's all us poor people could do at the time for musical entertainment. That was the authentic doo wop. Those later songs were not true doo wop. They had branched into R&B, also invented by African Americans but African American's should have been included in the beginning of this program so there would be no mistaking where the music came from, the originators of it. This show seemed pretty bogus and lacking in black expression which is very important for the true doo wop sound and authenticity. The show seemed racist to me. How do you leave out the inventors of doo wop?

What a pathetic show. Looks like about 40-50 people listening to groups that, for the most part, would never have performed when doowop was at the height of its popularity. And, the best group, I believe called NCS, were not a doowop group at all. Their repertoire was all Soul, not doowop. So, what were they doing on the show?
