This album represents an important shift for me and my musical tastes as I grew out of my teenage angst and began searching for some other sounds in the world. It knocked me on my ass. I love this album to death and this is my story about it.
What do you think of this album? Do you have an album that shifted your musical tastes in a new direction? Let's talk about it! :-)

Jim Ward was always the driving force behind ATDI to me. I really dug Mars Volta when it came out, but Sparta was my jam. Porcelain was such a good album.

I still listen to this regularly, there’s just nothing else quite like it with the Jim Ward/ Cedric +Omar divide being akin to Pink Floyd’s Waters/Gilmour in that they make fantastic music apart from each other but together it’s just electric! The album just grabs you by the balls and doesn’t let go. Fascinating that none of it is done to a metronome and the guitars are all wildly out of tune (check out Rick Beato’s “what makes this song great” on One Armed Scissor and see how horribly out of tune they are!). Andy and Ross did such a great job with this and it has aged like a fine wine. The track Cosmonaut especially, holly shit the last chorus with Cedric blasting his lungs out gives me goosebumps every time. Great video mate!

Ah also yeah I agree with Sparta, except the first album “Wiretap Scars”, produced by the legend Jerry Finn. Not a bad song on that album! The rest of the albums are all a bit middle of the road and indie for my taste but I still love Jim’s voice. DeLoused and Francis the Mute from the Mars Volta are absolute masterpieces too!

This album changed my life when I was 13. My uncle gave me the CD and soon after I got grounded for getting in trouble at school - CD was all I needed lol. I've been wanting to add to my vinyl collection for a long time. Do you have the 2000 issue or an import? What did you pay for it?
