Beautiful playing. And what a delight to hear a trad saxophone. Wondered why the audience were behind instead of in front of the musicians...

It's half way between being a "performance" and a pub session where the musicians are mainly playing for themselves. So it's actually a performance, but in session style

This is just crazy....I'm sure it's how people felt about bouzoukis and what not before they were mainstream I"T"M instruments. This was great!
@rhapsag9 жыл бұрын
+T Alex The sax predates the bouzouki in Irish trad by many decades.

Interesting. I sat in on session that included a sax player and his sax was an Ee sax. Yikes. I learned Far Away From Home as a real in G major.

African American musicians played sax with fiddles at the beginning of the 20th century and trumpets too

A discussion of this vid on a trad music forum I lurk on reckoned that the sax can potentially drown out the other instruments, but coupling it with a banjo works. If you look hard elsewhere on youtube you will find Seamus O'Donnell's uncle, Tony Howley also playing sax, accompanied by Tom Cussen on banjo, and a piano thrown in too.

Great playing on C melody sax (I'm pretty sure). The great flute player and composer, Josie McDermott, was also supposed to have played sax back in mid-century.
