Eh, depends. We're I live there's some pretty light handed thiefs; they're experts at any sort of pickpocketing and generally stealing objects from someone without them noticing. You have to be very careful; me and my mom usually use our backpacks backwards because of this.

Buy a lanyard doesn't matter what design just as long as it is long. Put it on your zipper. Each time you put on your bag hold the lanyard close. They can't open your zipper if they try to you can feel it. It's what I do with my bag where I keep my phone and wallet.

Yep, if I'm really that paranoid, I'll use multiple, with different style clasps and such as well. Makes it more confusing and difficult. Attach them to each other and the zippers in an odd configuration.

The keychain hooked to both is gonna take a bit to take off, you'll just have to be vigilant and be VERY vocal if they're someone pickpocketing. Usually pickpocket would rather run than have confrontation

Personally I'd recommend a bag padlock. You set up a code hook it onto 2 zippers and mess it up so it's basically impossible to steal the pins without stealing the bag

It’s not always easy to tell if someone took off the keychain though, I constantly mess around with one of my friends by taking the carabiner she has on her backpack off of the zipper. I always return it, but she doesn’t notice unless she sees my hand go there or my eyes go there since i do it so often. It’s a little game to me.
