When I was a little girl my Daddy and I used to go here in the off season. I lived at Myrtle Beach from 1958 til 1968.

Great video! Planning to get back there in October and visit Brookegreen again as well. (We used to sneak into this place at night as teenagers, so yes, we saw the basement and got onto the roof)

I would have loved to live there that close to the ocean gathering my own seafood for dinner and I know because I’ve been there they had their own little shed where they cleaned oysters so awesome

Thank you for including the dog kennels. I have always loved Scottish Deerhounds, the unique breed the Huntingtons loved!

I first visited Atalaya back in the 70s as a child. It had a haunting sadness about it and I remember trying to imagine what it would have looked like new and furnished. I would love to see some pics of the furnished interior, if any exist. When I visited last and took the tour, our guide said that the window bars were actually made by Anna. They were a very interesting couple!

Shame they didn’t think their home was worth keeping up. They gave their money to Brookgreen Gardens. I have some great pictures from the roof, before they closed off the access. Wrought iron has always been painted black. Have seen early picture of Atalaya that showed Black wrought iron. The green is tacky!

William Thompson may have had a big part in The architect part of building but he had no part of the physical labor part of that from all of my 10 years of research
