I'm not a J-pop fan by any stretch, but I really dig what AG is doing. Their DIY approach to their art, the challenging of norms and power structures in their lyrics and their aesthetic. I first became aware of them when they were just 新しい学校のリーダーズ and I saw them on the bill for Yasutaka Nakata's Otonoko festival in 2016. I went home and looked up everyone I didn't know from the list on KZbin and saw their early live work; as soon as I realised the message they were trying to communicate, I was like "finally, true idolpunk is happening!" Best Japanese music discovery for me in years. It's been 9 years since they started and it's only got better with time.

I just wish they would spend money on better sample s and plugins. The samples are not very hi fedelity and dont sound good at all on a high quality sound system. That is not true for the vocals though.

@@simplyafederalist Isn't that true of a lot of maximalist Japanese pop and anime music? Not sure it's a product of low quality gear tho. There's also massive amounts of filtering & compression, overcrowded mixes, brickwalled mastering, and little apparent regard for loss of audio fidelity/quality. As though the music were designed to be playable on the worst possible equipment and able to cut through tons of background noise even at low volume. And it seems to be a feature, not a bug. Like poor sound quality (by audiophile standards) as a legitimate aesthetic.

I was here before they took the world and i'm proud of it, since the first albums not many people even know about. Love that each girl has their own stage presence and things to focus in songs. Suzuka is the leader who mostly sings about life and its troubles, Rin is the rap girlboss, Mizuyu fills the fragile but strong lady role, and Kanon supports the whole group. They frequently change their style, from jazz and pop to rap, plus choreography is another level of dedication, just perfect. Never change ladies and keep the good vibes

Wow. Solid song. Loved the first 28 seconds as its a solid rap for sure. That is an awesome clip for a remix for getting someone hyped up for sure! Weirdly, its awesome with the "don't be shy" part as it really takes your focus into the lyrics for sure and then a punch of something else 2:10 to 2:18 super important to people starting at the gym.
