"Japan's scariest" so for Japanese society not for us literally...
@KoteOkarun3 ай бұрын
Likely meaning "scary" as in, directly opposing how the societal views are. They are, challenging the norm, so maybe it's scary in that way. Being "uniform", and not standing out is at the very core of the society. Wearing uniforms, children having the same backpacks to not stand out, to be "different", differentiated, from the majority. Ever heard of the stigmatism people face for having colored hair, or tattoo's? I am not sure how it has changed since I've heard of these things, but that ideology of being uniform with the majority, to not be different, is rooted very deeply in Japanese culture, it's everywhere.
@dave.of.the.forrest6 ай бұрын
They've all graduated HS. Full time entertainers now. Also, the details of their beginnings are somewhat unknown, I'm pretty sure it was just Asobi System and their manager OTA putting them together after auditions, or just noting them in their earlier activities, just like other idol groups of that age. They didn't "self-form". Rin and Kanon had been in various dance activities, Mizyu had been a backup dancer for KPP and Suzuka had already done some vocal and dance stuff.

@plasticflower11 күн бұрын
No, the comedians and MCs are well aware of their greeting beforehand. They play along making dumbfounded and stunned faces, because "silly and shocking" is the image of the band, and how others in the show react to the band adds to the overall image and message. If you watch any amount of Japanese TV, you'll know they always have a (fake) audience that goes "heeee!" at anything slightly interesting. That's because seeing or hearing others react to something also colors our own perception. I'm sorry if I'm shattering anyone's illusions, but even a group like Atarashii Gakko isn't just "4 crazy girls having fun", but a carefully orchestrated and thought out project. (Though it probably helps to be convincing if they're also having fun.)

I am a 55 year old music lover, and AG is my very favourite group. I have been listening to and meditating on their music daily for years. The more I learn about them and their philosophy, the more I realize how many of their songs carry a deeper message of joy, gratitude, love, kindness, awe, wonder, and other positive emotions. I believe Pineapple Kryptonite for example is about how sweetness (represented by pineapple) can overcome negativity (represented by the monster) just like Kryptonite overwhelming Superman. That in Zero Pressure Suits, the suit represents a state of mind in which you don’t let negativity drag you down, and challenges roll off you like water on hydrophobic fabric, and if you do get a stain on your suit (something drags you down), you can always wash your suit, which represents forgiveness and redemption. All of their songs have these double meanings of fierce positivity, boundless freedom, the joy of pure creativity, and eternal love. They are so much more than they seem on the surface. They are much more than a band. A deep and endlessly positive transformative philosophy runs through everything they do. In my life I aspire to embody what Atarashii Gakko stands for. They inspire me on a daily basis more than any religious philosophy ever has.

Cool video, I love Atarashii Gakko! Atarashii Gakko is officially a dance/vocal unit and dance performance unit, they make all their choreographies, contribute to their songs, write a lot of their own lyrics and collaborate with many artists and bands for the creation of their productions which allows them to have a very diverse sound. AG aren't technically an idol group but they play in the codes of idol culture. Also a cool thing about them is how each member is unique and is actually talented, like Suzuka's amazing charisma and personality and her drawing hobby, Rin's hip hop background and urban dance style and the fact she is also a DJ. They aren't trying to paint a fabricated image of themselves, they just show it how it is which is not only rare in celebrities nowadays but rare to see in the internet in general. Also unrelated point but, I can see you confuse idol groups and actual bands from when you mentioned "band boom" of the 1990s and then associated it with the idol culture of Japan, and then in the video compared Sakanaction (an actual band of musicians) to arashi (an idol group) when these two are 2 entirely different media categories in Japan, idols are not seen as musicians in Japan, idols are mainly and above everything else a group of entertainers working for a business, the entire business model and creative direction is led by the company, examples would be any group made under the "Johnny & Associates" company or stuff like AKB48. While bands are actual groups formed by musicians who know each other like any japanese rock/jazz/metal bands In term of the japanese music industry, singer-songwriters and bands are the more prevalent form of musical acts you'll find, rock bands are everywhere and are all formed by musicians often starting their activity while the members are either in college or high school, and the musicians that don't form rock bands generally go the singer-songwriter route and lately a lot of them start that as Vocaloid producers. AG don't technically fall in either, they are formed by a group of friends, have all the creative freedom, contribute to their sound and songs but aren't the actual musicians playing their instruments on stage, many other groups falling under what fans call "alternative idol" genre are also following the same direction which is great

How are they scary? They're pretty much Beastie Boys in Japanese girls form. If they're out of norm in Japan how about Baby Metal?
@adrianusatmawijaya40496 ай бұрын
actually baby metal is just another idol group, with 'metal music' and 'metal fox god' as their main gimmick. actually the original formation of 'ladybaby' are more out of norm. on the other hand, AG! are considered 'unhinged girl group'
@JS-oi5jt6 ай бұрын
Baby Metal is cookie cutter. They don't even play their own instruments. Look up Hanabie. That's a real metal group.
@adrianusatmawijaya40496 ай бұрын
@@JS-oi5jt but hanabie is just another metal band. OK, kidding aside, hanabie is not idol group or 'girlband' in that sense. idol group such as boyband/girlband never plays their own instrument, they do sing and dance.

Saw them live in Dallas the best concert ever. I been to big concerts over the past 40 years and when my daughter first told me I was like huh. But now I am a fan. Don’t sleep on the genre

I didn't know about them before this video but while I'm not sure about their music as much I like their ideas and it's refreshing to see something like this come out of Japan

They are just kids enjoying.. it its either cringe or hilarious. Really depends on you. I find them confident thats why i appreciate them. Probably introverts like me find them awesome.. bc its what we wanted. Just a friend group where we could we free.

This Japanese girl group in particular remind me of those "Sukeban" high school girls from 70s Japan! Just as badass!

i found this girl group a few years back and was so surprised how easy to watch their music videos were. its not some crazy good singing, rather its just so easy to digest that makes them enjoyable.

My 60 year old father found them around the time he found Chai and Hanabie, hes gonna go see them in San Francisco this month 😂 he actually introduced them to me We've already seen Chai twice before they broke up. Context: my old man loves music, and is a musician so its not THAT random.. but pretty random lol

The KZbin grind is real and since I don’t know much about music and music artists, these videos are very educational for me. Also thanks to this video I found out that all of the members, besides mizyu, are younger than me👴🏻

They didn't met at highschool at all, it's just a story... for example, Mizyu used to be a dancer for Kyarypappa... they were not at the same school at all.

I find it odd that like the first 3 years of their history is overlooked, it always says their first song was in 2017 even though the KZbin channel has songs from them when they were freshman’s and sophomores

their best visual gag of all is their shoes. Wabaki, indoor shoes mostly used by students in place of their shoes from outside. Super common. Them wearing them outside is the joke. Most of the Japanese people I grew up with would shit a brick and throw it at your head for doing that.
