Awesome e-waste finds, especially that WYSE terminal! Very cool!

Yeah. I am super excited. I've been looking for a "modern" terminal for a while.

Stargate was also called Defender II, it is the sequel to Defender, it's not a clone.

I had a monitor that looked just like the one you featured and used it as my main monitor for the longest time. Nice nostalgia hit, thanks!

Nice! Did it have that weird panel in the back?

For some odd reason the Bell icon for your videos changed to none? Not too sure if its just a me thing or a KZbin thing but i changed it back to All, I love seeing your videos and it truly makes my day when i see one of your uploads. E Waste Wednesday is nice series i love to keep up with. Ive also noticed a general up tick in quality from your videos keep it up man (not the A1C though lmao)

I've been looking for a terminal also, but I'm hoping to find the amber type my local libraries used. Maybe there were a few green ones but the amber ones I remember most. At some point they started using a terminal client on PCs before they eventually went web based.
@RetroHackShack Жыл бұрын
Yes. I remember that progression as well.

What a find! I always wanted to have a real terminal to try to fully work on linux using vim as the ancients may used to do.

"The ancients". That's what we are now 😄 I hope you are doing well Vicente!

Haven't tried it on a serial terminal, but MPlayer supports ASCII art output: mplayer -vo AA

So cool. Unfortunately, I didn't have time to go through all the settings, but it is amazing how functional it is.

If it was using MX switches, the old Wyse keyboards were prized for their Cherry MX Black switches. They came from a time where it is believed QC or standards were higher, plus they are worn-in. Sometimes, people threw away the keycaps after 'harvesting' the MX switches. But the Wyse keycaps are excellent in their own right. The MX keycaps were produced by Comptec before Signature Plastics, and used the great DCS profile. Some of the Wyse keycaps were super-thick doubleshots, with quality and characteristics hardly seen today.

Had a monitor that looked nearly identical to the one shown. Came with a PB Legend... 4 I believe. 286/12 with co-processor, 4MB Ram, Oaks VGA card, 340MB worth of HDD space, and a SB Pro. It replaced our CoCo and wasn't retired by my dad until he got a P2-450. Don't have it anymore, but I do have a CD ISO of the drives as they were when it was gotten rid of

Awesome! Glad you archived those. It was always an afterthought for me at the time, but I wish I had done that with some of my computers over the years. I made a drawing of the Enterprise from Star Trek TOS along with the music from the first movie for the Coco at some point. Unfortunately, it is gone and I will never see that again.
@RetroHackShack Жыл бұрын
@formyroku BTW - As luck would have it, I stopped by a place just now and they had a PB Legend that I picked up. It is a 486-SX though. Perhaps I should pair this system with the monitor when I do a repair video.

Wow... I'd love to find a Wyse or other good terminal (preferably with an amber screen) that I could use with my SC126. That would bring back the good ol' days of CP/M nicely.

Those switchers should never be thrown out; they are still used if people want a fully retro setup. There was a game called 'Stargate' on my Atari 8-Bit computer which was a top-down shooter that went from omni-directional to vertically scrolling.
