I added this upgrade back in the day along with the In-Home B-Key keyboard upgrade. I made my 400 usable for years of learning to program.🤩

I did the same thing, I used my 400 mainly to run my model railroad :P

I had this back in the day. My dad had to install it because as a 8 year old kid I'd screw the whole think up.

At first I was like "Whoa! Cool! I can upgrade my old 400!". Then I was like "Nope. I'd screw this up six ways to Sunday.". Excellent video though. My upgrade will be to someday get an 800 on the cheap. And a disk drive. I might open up my 410 tape drive at some point and try to fix it. The Play/Record buttons are bad (won't stay down) so I might have a look at what's going on inside to see how to fix that.

I'm going to be doing a review for the Atari 400 and wanted to reference your video for upgrades to the machine. Mind if I use your footage and link to your video?

Not sure if this is exactly the one I added to mine... It's been so long ago I don't remember. To make the upgrade complete I added the B-400 full-stroke keyboard. The hardest part of that one was that they didn't put any kind of support strip on the ribbon cable that plugs into the board. What I finally found that worked was a couple of popsicle sticks. Even then, the ribbon cable is basically like a stiff paper and very delicate. Well worth it, though. The keyboard layout is slightly different than the original membrane but it didn't take long to get used to. Having a real, solid keyboard made the adjustment painless. I still have her and her cassette (with matching brown vinyl dust covers) safely tucked away in storage.

Did anybody recognize that he forgot to build in the speaker first, and after the cut it is inside ;) But nice video. I also have an Atari400 here which I want to restaurate.

do best electronics do a 64k upgrade for the atari 600xl ?

Hey i have the 64k memory expansion attached and typed in print fre(0) and i get 37902 ?? Am i not supposed to have 64k where as 37902 is for 48k ?
@rickr21837 жыл бұрын
That is the correct value. Basic takes some of the memory, so that's the amount that's available to your program from within BASIC.

super awesome video "Atari star raiders 2 needed 48k to play". Amazing you got an original brand-new official Atari upgrade kit in 2018.

How do you reconnect the keyboard properly? I have been trying for an hour now and for the life of me I can't get the pins to stay in the holes...
@SVT51210 жыл бұрын
Sounds like the connector port is spread open to far. the pins should grip into the holes as they are inserted. I line them all up at once then with light pressure start guiding them down into the connect till they bottom out.
@JayANDSarah.C10 жыл бұрын
Yeah I finally got the pins to stick in the holes, I just wasn't using enough pressure..thanks for the reply!

I heard that there was a proposed explosive reactive armor cartridge that could survive hits by most Soviet antitank rounds. And that with the 120mm smooth bore gun, the 400 had a real fighting chance on the Fulda Gap had the balloon gone up. Even so the armor on the 400 and 800 was pretty impressive. Those Cold War systems were pretty robust.
