Amazing that your wife let you use the dishwasher for cleaning the ST case! Great idea, I would have never thought of cleaning computer parts in the dishwasher. Fascinating that the ST case had a hole for the RF modulator but no RF mod installed. Great way to use the TOS switcher. 👏. Any theories on why the GLUE chip failed? These are solid state chips so I am wondering what made it break. Nice troubleshooting to diagnose/fix. Great job refurbishing this ST! I look forward to learning even more about STs by watching your videos. Thanks for sharing the experience with us. 😊

Putting the case in a dishwasher is a five. Putting the PCB in the dishwasher is a ten!

Was about to talk about putting the mainboard in the dishwasher First remove the socketed chips, and stuck the PCB in the dishwasher. Put the case into the dishwasher too, so you save on clean-cycles while keeping the wife happy at the same time... Most importantly, it saves a ton of troubleshooting to work with a cleaned board from the get-go. Heck, you can trow-in all the keyboard parts as well while you're at it! Saves a ton of time.

@@LFOSyncToo Good points. I think that might find its way into another one of these restorations. Just don't put the keyboard rubber domes in there.

@@powerofvintage9442 yes! you are right about the keyboard rubber domes. It might be better to clean them separately ;-) All the best.

Nice! I had a 1040ST from 86 to 92 but I was in College and used UNIX, PC, and MAC for 4 of those years. So my ST ran the slow PC software emulator or the decent Magic Sac MAC emulator. Looking back, I loved my prior Atari 800 much more over the 5 year I used it. Sadly the ST never had the spark of the A8 series. After college I went straight to a 486 PC and never looked back... (until recently).

Yes, installing an RF modulator that's missing is idiotic for anything other than, perhaps, a museum sample OR if the owner is adamant about experiencing his youth once again and owns an old TV.
