I appreciate all of the reply's to my post. Gave multiple perspectives. I guess I was looking at it from a business stand point to where if you had someone that was a little older but maybe has a back ground as a pilot, and looking for a different career or even a second one the training would be a little easier and quicker. They're short controllers and I can't count how many times I've been flying and you can hear that ATC is very busy, and very stressed and over worked so the quicker they get help the better. Aviation is only growing and we have more aircraft in the air at any given time. Hope the issue gets resolved soon.

Hi, how do I get into the academy? I just turned 28 years old I meet all the requirements and want to start practicing for my exam. Online the website says applications are open April 19-22. Do I wait till those dates then I apply?

If you’re applying with 3 years general work experience and haven’t yet completed your 4 years of education, is your resume do only thing you need to attach in your application or should we still attach our transcript as well?

I will be working all day during the workshops on Thursday. I have registered for the workshop but Dont think I will be able to make it. Should I have a family member go in my place with my questions written out for them, or is it possible to reschedule the workshop meeting for another day?

Regarding the willingness to relocate requirements. How does this work? Does a graduate of the program get some sort of choice?

I believe if in your class you have 15 students and all 15 pass then you will be able to choose where you will be stationed from the 15 locations available (15 students= 15 locations) the choice of who chooses first and last goes by who ranks were in the class

Is it worth applying with a combination of work experience and education if I only have 99 hrs toward my degree?

You can combine. As long as the percentage of work experience and the percentage of credit hours equate to at least 100% when combined. Example, 3 years(36 months) is the requirement for experience, and a degree with about 120 hours of credits is for education, but you can combine, so if you have 99 hours, divide it by 120. Then if you have 12-18 months of work experience, divide it by 36 months and then add that percentage to the percentage from the education percentage.

You do not need to submit anything before the application period opens on May 5. Check to see if you meet eligibility requirements and get info about required documents you will need to upload at www.faa.gov/be-atc.

Not necessarily, there are 2 pools that the FAA takes applications from one is from off the street hire (there are some qualifications) and other pool is through the ATCTI course with a letter of recommendation which you could get from a college (the college needs to have the program not all colleges do)

Cut off is 31? Why discriminate against older workers, especially ones that may be perfectly qualified? Doesn't make sense given the shortage of controllers.

I think the reasoning is science backed ability to learn, obviously they're generalized rules, but in addition retirement is mandatory at 56. So with that in mind it makes more sense.

Because older people tend to be more reasoned, disciplined, and less impulsive.

They require retirement at age 56 you need 25 years to qualify for the retirement benefits, so the cutoff is 31.

They had 56000 people apply last time they were open. I don't see a need to extend the age limit.

Because this is a stressful job. Older people may not be able to take on stress as long as younger people. It’s like having an age standard for police or firefighting.
