MATZ explanation: At some point in the past Hongjoong's and Seonghwa's friendship name was revealed to be "Matz". Some said that it was a play on "Mad Hyungs" since the two are the oldest of the group. Another meaning that I heard Hongjoong talk about, I believe, is rwo energies that work very well together and ignite each other. Fans obviously ran with it and used it as their ship name. You know, Hongjoong and Seonghwa are the "parents" of Ateez due to Hongjoong being the leader and so self-sacrificing for their team and Seonghwa having so many motherly qualities like cooking for them, making sure they're dressed according to the weather, keeping them in check, literally mothering them so often and just overall making sure they're healthy and happy. And while Hongjoong takes care of the group and leads them, Seonghwa is always there to care for Hongjoong, build him up when he's down, gives him confidence and when they launched their comeback they had a live premier on KZbin where Hongjoong said that Seonghwa makes him want to try new rap techniques and encourages him a lot when he's not confident, which I found just so cute ❤️ And "Matz" just became their shipping name. And those two know that.

Yoooooo ever since "ARRIBA" and your ranting about Seonghwa's rapping I was so GIDDY to hear your reaction to "Matz". Seonghwa can be officially recognized as a rapper in Ateez now, no way in hell he can't!! And therefore he's also an official all-rounder now. He's an incredible dancer, he's a fantastic singer, he's an amazing rapper and he's a phenomenal performer. Plus he's literally one of the most gorgeous human beings on this planet. 17:13 honestly I think this song is so brilliant. It sounds like a whole commentary on the pressures of their industry and feeling the need to numb with alcohol to keep going through it. The lyrics are centered around questioning who they can trust and how they have to keep competing despite the heaviness of the industry. Mingi’s rap makes perfect sense in this context. Using an upbeat sound mixed with a heavy message is a fantastic juxtaposition to use. It’s like the fast paced sound creates the sense of pressure but also it sounds like fun which is the side that gets presented to the fans. But it’s called emergency.. unfortunately I’d be lead to believe that was done to shine a light on how dangerous this is. I would imagine the idols who have left the world too soon may have been in similar situations. Not saying that’ll happen to Ateez of course but I think it’s an important light to shine on the behind the scenes struggles of the artists.

In addition to what you said, I also really like the word emergency as a title and the repetition within the song. Emergencies produce so much adrenaline and a fight or flight response that is really helpful in the moment but not sustainable over a longer period of time. You need to find a way out of the intense hyper focus on survival otherwise you get more and more exhausted and like hongjoon said in his rap, you risk loosing yourself. Especially in group settings getting together drinking a few beers can be a great way to deal with the overwhelming experience of an emergency situation, because of less social pressure and being able to check in with everyone's well being in an informal way, so that when the emergency is over you can make sure everyone gets the help they need. But like you said, if the perceived emergency situation never ends this be a very slippery slope to go down.

I think the way you added in how drinking can be used to informally check in/ be social and also to get temporary relief from that fight or flight response creates another layer of how brilliant this song is! I actually learned about the social talking thing while receiving training as a first responder for natural disaster situations where our teams have to be able to endure rough situations in order to help others for sometimes weeks at a time with minimal support until they come back home. I guess that's why this song hit so hard for me.

I absolutely LOVE what you said in the end about the last 3 minutes of the album is like we're all on the pirate ship, sailing away and looking back on where we've come from with Ateez and how it was everything they promised it would be. When you said that, paired with the lingering feelings from the song, I actually teared up a bit. Because although I haven't been with them from the beginning, ever since I got into kpop, they have been such a bright light in my life. Their music has completely resonated with me in a way that no other music has and I am so unbelievably proud of what the boys have accomplished. Thanks for the chaotic reaction! Big fan of this kind of chaos. Having the lyric video flip upside down like halfway through made it hit a new level of chaos. Half the time I listen to WE KNOW I hear them sing “We Know”, other half I hear “Lee Know”, which I’m totally okay with. Just makes me smile and go IKYKWKLK. ARRIBA and Crazy Form are true party songs. You can’t sit or stand still, you’ve to dance. MATZ is my new number one hype song and anthem. It’s just perfection in sass. BUT, Seonghwa is seriously pissing me off with his rap style in MATZ. Like dude, did I give you permission to sound THIS sassy without a warning? Come on man. I still feel run over after his rap in Bouncy, and now he apparently decided to run me over again. I suppose all I can do is say “Thanks, and keep it up!”. 🤷🏼‍♀️ I’m a big fan of them trying the concept of unit songs. Hoping for more in the future, and then with different pairings each time. Would be so cool. I felt a bit sad that Jongho wasn’t paired with someone, but at the same time, that man did Everything so beautifully. It hit every part of my soul. His capacity is insane. I’m still thinking that he actually got 3 or 4 lungs. I agree with that FIN : WILL is telling a story, I just didn’t think of the ship for some reason. But now, after you mentioned it, I can’t unsee it and there’s even the sound of water in the song. I cried when I first heard it, ‘cause it’s giving such a feeling of victory and freedom. I was looking forward so much for the album I think there is a whole change going on . A whole story within the album. Thats why Crescent part 2 where ot was in my opinion. I thought this brought a Change in the journey. Especially looked forward the unit songs as all of them wrote them themselves. MATZ is what Seonghwa and Hongjoong call themselves. Their unit - Matz (short for madhyungs or eldests) consists of them only. Sometimes they introduced themselves with Chingu MATZ.

Ateez has MANY short instrumental tracks in their discography (mostly in their full albums I think.) As far as I know, they serve as intros, outros, and interludes. This is fairly common in kpop. Crescent Pt. 2 is the second part to Crescent in their "ONE TO ALL" EP they released in 2019, which was also an instrumental interlude.

So, everything they do is related to a logic inside of the lore. I believe that will be something like this: On Treasure EP:3, we have "crescent part 1" and that was like a transition between the two dimensions (A and Z) before that they were trapped in a dream during "Illusion". This "crescent part 2" gives the same transition, and they followed the "silver light" to the right place and ended up in a reality that looks like they are dreaming. They are giving the same idea as before, two soft songs between the transition and the same kind of context, such as being together, feeling like dreaming, and following the reality. The album basically ended up telling us the story and the direction of things. "We know what and how to do(WE KNOW), we feeling lost in this(EMERGENCY), we achieve another prospective(CRAZY FORM), we are ready to keep going(ARRIBA), we are still following path(SILVER LIGHT), the chance of reality(CRESCENT PART 2), everything sometimes feels like a dream(DREAM DAY)" and then they put the unit tracks that basically showed us the strength of the members until they achieve everything with their will (FIN). This is how I read it, and I already looked that they had done something like this one the setlist of the concerts tour.

idk if you haveb een told yet but Matz stand for Mat-hyung which means the oldest in the group. They've been calling themselves matz in retaliation as a joke for the 99z (which are the 99 liners in ateez) it's actually been a running gag for atiny and it just blows my mind that they did a whole song with it as a unit. Also fun fact, Seonghwa auditioned as a rapper for KQ but got in as a vocalist instead. It's so nice for them to finally give him an opportunity to shine in this way.

ATEEZ music is SOOO EPIC! IT'S JUST CUTTING EDGE. BEING AN ATINY IS SUCH AN EXPERIENCE (and then when you know the lore-JEEZUS!) We Know and Silverlight--Cinematic, Arriba and Emergency--the complexity! Matz--LIKE WHAT THE ENTIRE F*CK! They spazzed da f*ck out! It's You--That song is so swagged out and delicious. The trio was stepping on necks! And Everything... That was my first time hearing it and i tried to read the lyrics, and half way thru he hit that note and i shattered. I was lucky to catch Ateez years ago when they debuted and I can say that honestly the World series has been by far my favorite albums of theirs and this one was an amazing epilogue for it. I have been hoping for so long we would we get unit songs one day and the wait was absolutely worth it all 4 of them were by far the highlight of the album for me as they got to highlight their talents in a way they haven't necessarily been able to before in a larger unit. Honestly Dreamy Day was not my personal taste but everything else was perfection in my book and it just makes me that much more excited to see what they release in the future! Thanks again for the great reactions I really appreciate seeing a fellow neurodivergent person represent how much music affects us at a deep and visceral level i find you extremely relatable and entertaining to watch!! We need a Jongho shrine next to the Binnie one!
