#51 Prepping the kitchen for plaster and mezzanine floor - Renovating our stone house in Italy

We bought this stone house in Italy during the pandemic in 2020. The house was a ruin and we saved everything we could, unfortunately that meant only four stone and clay walls 😊 The back wall, against the terrain, was close to collapse; the roof beams were eaten and basically reduced to dust; the inside separation walls were easily taken down and the whole project turned into a heavy renovation/rebuild.

Suggest putting a screw into the wall for each backbox as they can pull completely out of the wall when unplugging a plug later.

Using those hemp block made it easier for you to place the hoses and lines neatly into the walls before plastering the walls. If they had been concrete blocks there would have been a lot more dust and would have been harder to get as neat of lines cut without pieces breaking off. So many benefits from the hemp products. The kitchen now looks more ready to finish and you did another great job. See you next week.

I have spent most of the day watching you transform your new home! It is coming together so nicely, and will be such a beautiful and peaceful oasis when you are done. I just finished watching your video of you planting your garden, and I did want to mention that oleander is toxic to many animals if eaten, including dogs. You might have already known this, but I just wanted to make sure you knew to watch carefully for your dog chewing on it! (And it can grow like crazy and be a pest to keep trimmed. lol)

The house is taking shape, all that plastering had me wanting desserts for some reason, lol. Also, have you thought about getting some collapsible saw horses for when you cut the bigger plywood or anything long? It will save you back years down the line. Some are also adjustable in height, so that if you were to add a miter saw, it would adjust to the height needed. As always, excellent work Vince, Caiù is a good supervisor.

Dommage le ruban acoustique ne sera pas à sa pleine capacité. Au Québec nous l'aurions seulement coller avec une bonne colle de construction. Dans votre méthode le son est conduit par les vis!

Compressing insulation is not that bad, you loose some thickness but the lambda-value is also dropping, so no great losses there. Much worse is insulation that is not fully filling the spaces, now you are loosing more warmth throught these holes. I would have lowerd the mezzanine floor with 15-20 cm to have more usable space up there. Height in bedrooms isn't that important.

You have missed an important information: the bedroom height, which is 2m70, is a minimum required by the law here! So the mezzanine height is induced by this parameter

@@ateliermavi I expected it would be regulations. Such a waste, because a bedroom height of 2m40 is quite sufficient if the floor dimensions are not to high. Imagine the extra space on the mezzanine.

Juste une question, je ne me souviens pas avoir lu si la maison est déjà raccordée à l'eau et l'électricité? je vois que tu utilise que des outils à batteries ce qui explique mon interrogation. Dans tous les cas, c'est une totale réussite, à tous les deux plus votre ami canin, vous avez réalisés une superbe restauration de cette demeure. Et comme je l'ai déjà dis, le cadre extérieur est magnifique. Dans quelques temps, vous pourrez profiter d'un repos bien mérité à l'ombre de vos arbres sur les terrasses. Bon courage pour la suite des travaux.

Merci ☺️ Le terrain est raccordé aux réseaux, il manque encore les lignes principales à tirer vers l'intérieur de la maison! Les outils à batteries sont juste beaucoup plus pratiques à utiliser, cela fait moins de câbles dans tout les sens!

Celui-ci a reposé pendant presque 1 mois dans son seau ☺️ je pense que c'est pour ça. Plus il repose, plus il colle et est onctueux, donc agréable à travailler! 1 mois c'est un peu extrême, mais si tu arrives à le faire reposer entre 3-4 jours c'est déjà bien

We had a 3 months delay in order to get windows so we kept moving while waiting, our climate is nothing like what you have in the UK, we are praying for rain around here 😉

We insulated the roof with 20cm of hemp fiber, which is enough for the region. The inside walls are insulated for soundproofing which is essential too
