#67 These Walls are DONE | Renovating an Abandoned Stone House in Italy

We bought this stone house in Italy during the pandemic in 2020. The house was a ruin and we saved everything we could, unfortunately that meant only four stone and clay walls! The back wall, against the terrain, was close to collapse; the roof beams were eaten and basically reduced to dust; the inside separation walls were easily taken down and the whole project turned into a heavy renovation/rebuild.

Hello! More difficult and tedious work. The Big Payoff will be in the end, when the walls have all been filled in and pointed. You are both such an inspiration to me. You seem to know that the difficult work you must do will make your home so much more beautiful. Kudos to you! Vince said that the total number of square meters of walls that you had to point was 70 meters. I could not imagine how much that was, so I converted it to square feet. It is 754 square feet of space. That is more square feet of space than the house that I live in!! Now I understand what a huge job it has been to complete this I see Caiu is helping! I’m wondering in case of earthquakes will that stone wall fall. Being Italia prone to earthquakes, is that wise thing to put stone walls inside house.Aldo they look as some aristocratic castle walls, bravo for your meticulous work.

The type of mortar used in the original construction allows the walls to be flexible not rigid. This is why many stone houses in Italy are still standing after hundreds of years of seismic activity.

I can remember how dark and small the house used to look. What an incredible transformation! I hope you both feel lighter; that you can clearly see the end of the project. Hello 😊 Pas si simple, la réparation des murs en pierre. Trouver la bonne pierre pour mettre au bon endroit. C'est presque comme faire un puzzle ! C'est du beau travail.
