Welcome back to the channel
In this weeks video I show you how to replace your transmission fluid and filter on a 2006 Subaru Outback automatic all wheel drive 2.5 L SOHC Machine. This is definitely a job that aid do it yourself we can do in the driveway. Of course if you are going to take this job on make sure you use jackstands and please dispose of your used oil responsibly. Like I mentioned in the video even if your dealer recommends 4 L of ATF make sure you at least get 5 L. Of course I hope this video is both informative as well as helpful and entertaining. If it is please subscribe to the channel to support my work.
As always thank you for watching we will see you in the next one...

Hey thanks for the comment I really appreciate that. I had another comment from someone who didn't like me saying boys and girls. So I asked him if I should say men and women lol. Anyhow I'm glad you took something away from the video that was positive. Hit that subscribe button if you haven't already.

@@JimmysAutoClinic I think I’m with the other dude. I liked the instruction but I don’t think I could go through another video with how many times you say “boys and girls.” You could say “folks” or just “you” or many times it’s not necessary at all. But that’s just me, so you be you it probably doesn’t bother most people.

Thanks for the comment. To be honest when I'm editing sometimes I think the same thing to myself that I see it quite a bit but it's because every time I stop recording I don't remember how many times I've said it so it's now become the second nature and I do say it quite a bit. I used to say folks in a few of my other videos and it reminds me too much of the current Premier of Ontario Doug Ford so I stopped saying it LOL. I'll try to keep it to a minimum. Thanks for watching.

Your fluid was still fairly dark after the change, with the 4 and 5 EAT you often wanna do a drain and refill twice consecutively to get it all, then it will ready red on the stick and drive super smooth and easy
@JimmysAutoClinic
@JimmysAutoClinic Жыл бұрын
Hey, unfortunately even if you do it twice you're not really going to get all of the fluid out. As the torque converter itself contains usually about 40% of the fluid which of course gets mixed in with your brand new fluid. In terms of doing it consecutively I don't like doing it cuz it doesn't really give the brand new fluid a chance to do its job and clean the system. ATF has a high detergent content and works really well at higher temperatures which can only be achieved while the vehicle is being driven. So in my opinion it's best to do the second flush prematurely if needed. Usually after 10,000 K is when I do it. Thanks for your feedback I appreciate the comment.

Hi - Thanks for the video! Since you work on these things, what has been your experience with the longevity of this model transmission, one that hasn't been abused and the oil has been changed a time or two? Thanks!
@JimmysAutoClinic

Hey bob, they go for quite a long time. My wife's car is currently at 400,000 km and I have vehicles that I serviced from about 100,000 km and they are now ranging from about 400 to 500,000 km. The biggest killer of the transmission is the body. Unfortunately when the body rots away most of the newer models have different Transmissions or cvts and the good trannies end up going to scrap. My opinion if you service them and don't abuse them they are a great transmission.

What's the other dipstick on the other side of the 5AT EZ30 trans?
@JimmysAutoClinic
@JimmysAutoClinic Жыл бұрын
Hello my friend. If you're talking about the dipstick on the right side of the vehicle or a smaller dipstick with a hook that is offset. It is the dipstick for the differential. Specifically your front differential.

Hello Jimmy, does the 2011 outback use the same type of transmission oil?
@JimmysAutoClinic
@JimmysAutoClinic Жыл бұрын
So that's a bit of a tricky question the reason being is because there are some Outbacks out there that have an actual automatic transmission. However the majority of the transmissions on those Outbacks are cvts. I personally have never seen an automatic on a 2011 or 10. But as per Subaru they do exist with them so the best advice I can give you is to take your VIN number go to the dealership and ask them specifically what your transmission is. If they tell you it is a CVT then this transmission fluid will not work for your car. If you have an automatic transmission or what is considered to be in traditional automatic then the fluid will work for your car. Be sure to make sure you put the right fluid in as if you put in the wrong one it will destroy your transmission. I hope this answers your question if it doesn't feel free to reach out.

@@JimmysAutoClinic yes I own a 2011 hatchback and it is indeed an automatic, not CVT
@JimmysAutoClinic
@JimmysAutoClinic Жыл бұрын
If it is an automatic what you need is Subaru automatic transmission fluid I don't have it in front of me right now but I'm pretty sure in Canada it's HP and then it has another acronym there in states. I hope this helps but definitely take your VIN number to the dealership to confirm that you have an automatic. If you do you'll be one of those rear ones. Good luck my friend. If you have any other questions feel free to reach out.

Should I drain the fluid after it’s been warmed up? Or cold
@JimmysAutoClinic
@JimmysAutoClinic 5 ай бұрын
It's not necessarily a bad idea to drain the fluid when it is hot however you're not going to get that much more fluid out but it can help with getting contaminants or metal debris out because they tend to be more agitated and freely moving throughout the transmission. If you have the time and the gas money not a bad idea. If not not the end of the world

Great vid except for the length. This could have been a five minute video, boys and girls. Keep it short next time. You'll get more views. Love your personality and style, but would have liked to see your face at least once. Appreciate your intel. My trans has been whining. I'm sure this is the issue with having over 122k miles.

I can't find a filter in mine ? It's a 2009 outback?
@JimmysAutoClinic
@JimmysAutoClinic 2 жыл бұрын
It should be on the side of the transmission. Specifically on the left side of the transmission. If it's not there then the best thing to do would be to give the VIN number to your dealer and they should be able to tell you on the parts diagram where it may be located. I hope this helps you out.
