Since I couldn't find a side-by-side comparison of the stock 1080p @60Hz screen and 1440p @165Hz screen, I decided to make this test video. I'm not a pro, so don't judge my gameplay. haha
Both the Mandalorian and Back To The Future tables are on Pinball FX with max settings and v-sync off. the 1440p screen is still OTG with audio set to the ALP HDMI and controls as-is.

This is awesome! You can really notice the change in flipper lag from OEM to LG monitors! The delay has pretty much disappeared, at least from what I can see in the video. How does the flipper response compare to the built-in games and monitor? Could you please update us with the details on your swap over and how you have things configured? Thanks!

What solenoid solution did you end up using? You can really sense the lag on the original screen with the solenoid setup. You hear that solenoid pop and then the flipper doesn't actually move until a moment later. The new screen totally fixed that.

Cleveland Software's solenoid kit here! The two solenoids add more feedback and more of a mechanical sound compared to just the two exciters. And that's true, I never thought about listening to the solenoid and calculating the screen lag from that! Maybe later this month I'll get around to editing the footage for a side-by-side comparison.. especially now that I have it physically installed in the cabinet! www.ebay.com/itm/154554920329?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=Mp5xqAJDR0S&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=DP6KsDTsSWi&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

Hey there! I'm 90% done, but had to put the upgrade on pause since flying out for my honeymoon. I'll post an update video later next week. I was not able to simply set it on the old rails like others have supposedly done. And I did not want to strip it out of the housing just in case I needed to get it replaced (or eventually upgrade in a few years). I ended up taking out the original monitor and rails, and added a 5/8x4x15" piece of wood on top of the two inside wooden crossbraces. I added some 1/4x1" high density foam ontop of the new wood, and set the new screen ontop of the foam. I cut the corner sections of the lower monitor rail so that it can screw into the cab and hold the top "blackout" screen trim. The angle of the pieces were set at 11.5° to match the stock rail. You'll want to add 1/4-3/8" thick foam on the bottom of the blackout trim to close the gap between it and the monitor. You want foam there since the trim needs to slide and pivot in (which could otherwise scratch the screen). It looks great so far, and I'll explain it all with a list of materials next week.

Are you going through an LVDS to HDMI adapter, or do you just connect the monitor directly to the PC?

@@BusyAir No, I kept the HDMI connected to the playfield input on the ALP in order to send audio to the ALP. If not, I would need to buy an audio card and amps for full SSF. That way I save a few hundred by keeping OTG audio and controls. 🙂

@josephromano6168
@josephromano6168 2 жыл бұрын
It seems like it more has to do with the video lag, and that the controls over OTG had a lower latency over the stock screen. Going with the higher refresh rate monitor made the lag a lot less noticeable and it plays more fluid.

I kept the USB and HDMI cables connected to my PC. Once the ALP OTG light at the top of the playfield near the USB powers on I press the OTG button, up arrow (once), and the left button on the coin door. It switches the video feed from the PC, and sends the button and audio info to the PC.
