I've just upgraded my ALP with this kit. A big thank you Wagner for your guide without you and people like you in the channels it wouldn't be possible. It has transformed the haptics in the stock tables but the real advantage is visual pinball without a doubt. Before I wasn't impressed with VP as I couldn't feel any bumpers but with the upgrade the haptic/music speaker separation is just a massive game changer. I def owe you a pint if you're over here in England, cheers 🍻

About a decade ago When i bought my first "larrge" (42" lol) flat panel TV i scoured the internet for days, prolly a week at least, to find a mount that'll allow me to tilt to portrait mode, primarily for vertical shooters as i was unaware of the existence of these electronic pinball tables, now i have all my fave's as a kid and while i don't play them as much as i did a few years ago, I still love their creation and my decision to have built a TV stand out of a solid 4"x4"x8' fence post stud with freekin portrait mode!! Hello Jon. Thanks to your channel I own a steam deck and play vpx on my ALP using the deck. It works great. I just installed this upgrade kit and I believe everything is working fine. I just wanted to check 1 thing. The only way I get the system working is by setting the table audio to "Primary Drive" and the backglass music to the HDMI. Also, I have the output on the deck settings set to the HDMI rather than speakers or headphones. I know that is different than you recommended on the video. Just checking to see if that seems appropriate with the deck . Thanks so much for all your videos!

Hello, thank you for your feedback! I wouldn't say the way I set it up is the only way to go, if you're getting the sound separation in VPX with your current configuration, it's likely just fine. The music coming through the ALP speakers and the playfield sounds through the haptics kit. The haptics kit makes a world of difference on the ALP doesn't it? I love it! I just got finished playing about 20 min. ago myself.

I haven't tried this mod yet, but I will save the video for when I do. You mentioned turning off the accelerometer which I never thought to try on the stock panel. That has solved my issue of turning up haptics and causing the "ghost nudge". Now I actually want to play this machine again!

Thank you so much for this tutorial. I installed the haptic kit using your online instructions and this video. More KZbinrs need to take the time and do tutorials correctly. They skip steps and don’t talk to you about what may go wrong but you do. You talk about everything have good camera angles and zooms and actually show you step by step. Also I LOVE LOVE LOVE! my Atgames pinball now more than ever. I have Philip’s solenoid kit from Cleveland Software Design and this Haptics Kit installed. I’d say this is as close to the real thing as you can get with owning an Atgames Pinball for $800. Regular video pinballs can be $4000 and real pinball machine can be $6,000-$10,000. Hello there. I was wondering if you had any guidance specifically on the 4 speaker backbox setup. When my Deluxe Backbox 2.0 arrived, the bottom two speakers are wired directly into the amp in the backbox. However, the top two speakers are not connected to anything at all. I never realized over a whole year that these two speakers were not being used. This guide seems to be more for a two speaker setup and I can't find anyone, even BuyStuff, show how to connect the four speaker setup. I am connected to the mainboard of the ALP used the cables in the RCA harness. The top speakers have the same connecter as the RCA harness, but nowhere to plug them in. To provide some background, I recently upgraded my ALP playfield with an LG Ultragear. I have everything connected properly, but no sound. I'm wondering if these speakers not being connected is the reason for no sounds. Please give this some thought. I can share pictures or videos too. I appreciate any feedback you may have!

I love the sound controls, i adjust on the fly for certain tables, but i'm picky and is easy to do quickly, it's also a great upgrade if you only run alp tables but did not play many, i played one game before and after to have a fresh memory of play / sound.. the dayton upgrade is worth it for that alone... I've been going through your ALP videos as I have one coming on Saturday. I've been playing videogames since around 1989, and have always wanted a pinball table, but couldn't bring myself to get a full table. I'm thinking in the long run I'll be having a desktop computer living in the ALP and be doing a few of the upgrades you've gone over as then I'll have one table, which will function as MANY. Thanks for all of the information and you present it in a fantastic way.

You're very welcome Judson! I play my ALP usually daily here, that's 2 years after receiving it. There are so many great tables both on the platform and on PC. Lately I've been obsessed with trying to improve my leaderboard ranking on the Natural History tables. While enjoying the PC + Steam Deck via OTG also, there is so much fun to be had also with the tables from AtGames. I personally think the NH are must-have tables, they are so well-done and fun to play.

@@WagnersTechTalk thank you. Will do. No, it’s only VPX. For example, the sponge Bob table works fantastic. Sounds are coming in correctly. But when I played the new Megadeth table the music comes from up front by three flippers. So the sound is not separate. I checked the sound configuration and it’s setup the same as sponge bob. It seems like when it works the invidea logo pops up on the playfield then disappears. I hear a pop of sound when these changes happen. Also noticed that during the menu screen in pinup popper the sounds are only coming up front as well and not separate. I may have to see how to fix that. But it doesn’t sound good.

When you're setting up sound is the bass shaker going off during bumper, slingshot and, flipper effects? Have you noticed a deeper rolling ball sound on tables? Very nice upgrade I think I am going to grab one. How did you get the VPX . and pinball fx3 not have flipper lag. I get it pretty bad using otg cable. I have rtx 4080 32gb ram 5800x3d cpu. I don't get lag if it connect straigt to regular 32" monitor not using the alp. Do I need a to use a power usb hub when connection to alp ?

On my machine, VPX and FX3 didn't have much flipper lag with j2k. However, recently I've been testing Pinball FX (latest version on Steam). With that, my PC did experience severe flipper lag. As a result, I tried another mapping tool and created a mapping configuration for it. Not only did it help with Pinball FX but FX3 and VPX also played a bit better. You can read more about how to set it up here if you want to try it out: wagnerstechtalk.com/alpfx/#Button_Mapping . Xpadder isn't free, it's $10, but for my setup was totally worth it.

I obviously used the entire kit, with the amp. Without the amp and bass shaker, I don't have any idea if you will notice much of an improvement. Since the bottom of the cabinet is cheap MDF, won't it just be a matter of time before the weight and vibration of the woofer strips those screws out and drop your speaker to the floor? Is it not possible to mount the woofer inside the cabinet? Bass and sub-bass sounds are omnidirectional, thus can be placed anywhere to have some effect.
@WagnersTechTalk
@WagnersTechTalk Жыл бұрын
It's MDF, not cheap. It's actually pretty thick (I think 3/4"). I bought a sheet a few years ago 8'x6' was $80. Pretty sure the bass shaker won't be coming loose anytime. However, if you want to mount it inside totally up to you. You may want to check with BSA for their recommendations on placement. What you saw in this video was based on their recommendations.

The separation, like you have with VPX, isn't there with FX3. It sounds great, but the music, effects, etc. all come through the same channels. Where with VPX, the music plays through the ALP speakers and the bumpers, ball rolling, etc. come through the haptics. It sounds much better than the stock speakers, however.

Wagner's TechTalk, I always really appreciate your videos showing solutions to home arcade products such as the AtGames Legends Pinball. It's crazy to think that AtGames still hasn't fixed the sound issues with their Legends Pinball, especially the haptics, which are currently unplugged on my machine. It sounds like this kit may fix that. However, this particular kit is unfortunately way to complicated for me, but I do appreciate you showing it off. Although I don't enjoy modding myself, I do like watching modders make these products better and also love companies selling these solutions. For me, I'd need to have something so simple, like a self contained box with everything already installed within it, with one connection port to connect the exciter wire from the control deck into. I know the chances of that are next to nil, but yeah, not my wheelhouse. Thanks for all that you do! vgv

I really enjoy your videos. It is impressive how creative one can. be if one is determined! I guess I'm haven't reached that level of determination. I do stuff at home that certainly takes me out of my comfort zone. Just a couple of months ago I had to change out a fog light assembly on my car. It was complex because it was light is behind a wheel well, and you can't get to it unless you have a car lift or jack the car up and remove the wheel. I have some background from back in the day of being a vehicle mechanic in the US Army... So after watching a few KZbin videos, I took the leap of faith, bought a hydraulic jack, jack up the car up, block the wheels etc. And finally, was able to remove the wheel, get the wheel well out enough to where I can reach in and get the fog light assembly removed and a new one installed. But it's not a skill set that I do day in and day out, but when it's gotta get done.... So, when it comes to my ATG, I'd much rather it be ready to go when I want to use. As opposed to turning "Mod'ing" the ATG into a hobby. Don't get me wrong, I admire what you guys do. Just think until it gets a little bit more plug-and-play, I'll be sitting on the sidelines :)

Got mine installed and it does sound great. However, I hardly have any sound coming from the alp speakers in otg vpx. I’ve made sure they’re turned up in windows and in the vpx settings but can’t figure it out. The music is very faint coming from the alp speakers. I followed everything else. I can get the music louder if i set it to come from the haptics kit. Any tips on what I’m doing wrong?

Please see 15:20 and adjust the bottom slider if needed to increase the audio level. That's likely what needs adjusting.

Thanks for your quick response! I do have those set right. I’ve seen every bit of your video several times at this point😆. Everything still sounds good, just nothing from those back alp speakers except some low bass. I’m assuming/hoping if I actually get it right, it’ll sound even better and perhaps there will be more of a distinction amongst the sounds. The way it is now I don’t feel much going on in the flippers. I think there’s supposed to be a bit more distinct thump when hitting them. I’ll keep tweaking but I think I’ve tried everything I can think of. Thanks again.

You should definitely feel the flippers+bass shaker. If you're not, there is something we're missing. You may want to ask your question to BSA here: www.buystuffarcades.com/pages/contact-us . Maybe there is something I'm not seeing from your question that they may pick up on.

I'm definitely picking this upgrade up. I previously replaced the stock exciters with two small dayton exciters, which did help a lot, but I have been looking for something with more oomf and in an easy to install package. One question though. You mentioned you had to disable the built-in accelerometer. Can it be moved and mounted to another spot in the cabinet to avoid the tilt issue? Maybe hanging in the middle with some foam backing to dampen the bass? I only ask since I had to disable the tilt buttons on the side since my young kids accidentally press them and tilt the table while they play even when being aware of hand placement. Heck, even our adult friends have this issue too. Thanks for another great video!

BSA is going to do more investigation into the accelerometer and let me know. Once they do, I'll try it, update the guide and there may be a follow-up video if significant. One thing that others have mentioned was to place the two front dayton exciters on the bottom-side of the cabinet. I've not personally tried that yet. Check the change log periodically on the guide page for any updates.

Another amazing video! So helpful and a major confidence booster for a lot of us I’m sure. Right now, I’m running all my sound from my PC to a soundbar and never really play the ALP native tables, just VPX and FX3. Do you think I could still run that setup for sound to my soundbar with this upgrade kit? Thanks to you and BuyStuff for all the help!
@WagnersTechTalk
@WagnersTechTalk 2 жыл бұрын
Much appreciated Barricade! Now I've not personally tried this, but I see no reason why you couldn't add a 3.5mm splitter off the A/B switch and route the audio to the exciters and the soundbar. I wouldn't get this exact one (it would get in the way), just used as an example: www.amazon.com/VCE-Adapter-Splitter-Headphone-Converter/dp/B06X3WF1ZS . That's one way I can think of if you want both the soundbar and haptics on the ALP. But of course, anything that BSA recommends overrides anything I say 👍😎

When you say youre not connecting the original ALP haptics at the end, do you mean one *must not* (due to impedance of whatever), or you simply didn't feel the need to? Got the haptics installed today (thank you for this super helpful video!!!), and I wouldn't mind keeping the ALP haptics to add a little further to the experience, since I got those nicely under control via the old sticky tape method. But of course I don't want to short circuit my machine due to some inoendance mismatch or else, so I thought I'd ask first. Also... Anyone got a good tip for an idiot like me how to reconnect a speaker cable that slid out a solenoid that's already glued to the side of the cabinet? 😅 For the life of me, I can't reach it, but removing the solenoid to reconnect would probably mess up the double sided sticky tape, no? I'm so stupid 🙄

Excellent tutorial as I am recently got an ALP and am ordering this kit. My question is why not put the bass shaker inside the cab on the bottom versus on the outer underside? Thanks
@WagnersTechTalk
@WagnersTechTalk 2 жыл бұрын
My honest answer, because that is how it was recommended to me by BuyStuff Arcades (they tested far more mounting options than I did). My theory is that you'll get much better sound having it mounted externally, inside you'll likely just get a lot of muffled vibration rather than clear audio. I've not tried it internally and happy with the sound mounted below. But, if you try it, I'd very much like to hear your experience! Thank you for your kind comment regarding the tutorial!

As many have stated already great video and thank you! I have purchased the Buy Stuff Arcades Haptics Upgrade Kit and I am very pleased with the performance of it on the pre-installed tables and Pinball FX3. I have installed Pinup Popper Baller and began working with the the pre-installed VPX table Leprechaun King. If I have both the sound effects and music running through HDMI, I can hear everything. When I attempt to isolate the sound effects to the PC motherboard's Realtek HD Audio output, I can hear the music through the HDMI but no sound effects. Where should I begin the troubleshooting process? Could it be a harness problem or is it software related? PC is Windows 11.

@@WagnersTechTalk Thank you for your prompt response! Option 1 is indeed what I am going after but when using this appoach, I do not have audio through the Realtek HD audio for the sound effects using the option 1 settings in VPX. Using option 1, I have music playing through the back box speakers and nothing coming from the shaker and exciters. I guess my first question should have been what Windows audio device should be set as default output in Windows? Currently have the Nvidia HDMI audio out as default.

Ok, just so I'm sure it's working well now? An issue with the ground loop isolator? You can reach out to BuyStuffArcades if a replacement is needed. Side Note: I've also bought a few from here : amzn.to/3Sbze6d . I've used them in the past with my Jeep a few years ago when connecting an Alexa (Roav Viva) to the AUX-in of of the stereo. They do substantially help improve the audio hissing that you may hear on some devices due to interference (the engine of the vehicle in my case). May be fine without it, but if you hear any audio distortion, then one may be needed.
