Athearn Blue Box Engine Tuneup (Beginner for Beginners)

I've tried this on my athearn bb engones , all about 30 years old . It did seem to have very minimal increased performance very briefly but soon after a couple of them actually began running much worse . They now need almost full power to run very slowly . If i clean them again it helps for about 30 minutes and then back to barely running . No idea whats going on

Maybe your motor is worn out. We actually decided to upgrade the motors to something more efficient and quieter since we are also upgrading these engines to DCC. The link is for a playlist on that process. You don't have to spend a lot of money on a motor though. We just chose the Athearn Genesis motors to make it as quiet and efficient as possible and keep an Athearn in the Athearn. It's an easy swap since the holes all line up.
