The biggest problem I have with my 30 year cars is keeping them on the rails. They are a pretty expensive ornament on my layout at the moment. Excellent video.

It’s true, and they are heavy so it’s odd. I had made them roll a bit better and ended changing couplers out for kadee #5s. But the best part is when I switched to the Rapido ones this past summer. I should have a video on that as well. They are way nicer. Thanks for watching!!!

Trains in Toronto Jason from Rapido said that he will not do these cars but he might do the older one level cars. They are yet to be manufactured.

Nice cars and nice review. They look very good. As far as passenger cars are concerned not one company (Athearn, Walthers, Rapido and brass manufacturer) make passenger cars that are really ready-to-run out of the box. * They all need tweaking: couplers (type, weight, height, plastic, drooping ) wheels (free rolling, not free rolling , not in gauge ) weight (too,light) warped floors, trucks that cannot pivot by poor design, trucks that cannot pivot due rubbing on underneath details, trucks and wheel-set that are not free rolling at all (LRC?) cars details rubbing on top of rails, lights that are flickering, etc. So for what you have, what you paid, and how well they run, I would say these are good cars.

Over 400 subs, nice. Thorough review, good job. Like you said, if Athearn is the only company making these and they're your favourite car, what can you do? Like em or hate em, that's all there is. Not sure why passenger cars aren't popular, there must be a big market out there for them. Get working on that station so you can store all of these GO cars! -Mark

Super Mario Transit Fan 16 I spoke with athearn. I asked them what was up with the control car. They said they did not have the tooling to make it. They said the only reason why they did was because they wanted to make sure for those who wanted one still got a control car in that paint scheme despite the inaccuracy

No complaints on the previous runs on these cars that's how GO TRANST was & still is. Rather makes it interesting. I had no idea of this Athearn release of these Bombardier cars.. I like these cars bring them on.. I got so excited at the beginning of this video the SD 40 bringing in the GO TRANSIT into the shed / shop! I just can't receive Ontario Northland Railroad they're limited for some reason. But applaud this video.. Yay! 😀🚞🚄🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚄

harold alexis I try to keep it fun. It was actually an Sd40 at the start there. Not normally used for switching but it was new at the time and I loved the sound. These cars work fine on a flat layout but not on grades. I still have some but I don’t run them all that much on my new layout.

An update on the GO TRANSIT CAB CONTROL: The prototype has a New slanted cab that resemble an engine or subway car! See the videos on KZbin..

As I move to O scale I am selling my N and HO GO Transit. The cars are heavy and not great trackers. I bet Rapido would do a much better job. But they are what they are (physics being what it is) and at least someone decided to produce them. I like the new color (colour) scheme.

Brian your right. Couldn’t agree more. If you are looking for a nice go transit set in a bigger scale, there is a shop not far from where I live in Ottawa. It is called “the christmas train store”. The specialize in g and o scale. They have a go transit set.

You mentioned a few times that you have many of these models. I'd be very interested in seeing the extent of your collection of these cars. I myself have a rather extensive collection of these models, and have never managed to find anyone who share the same level of interest in these that I do. At the very least, I'd love to compare my collection vs. yours to help determine which models I may be missing. Thanks for the video!

At the time of this video being made I had about 20 of these cars. 3 packs, a bunch of singles. 30 years of Go car. I even had a 3 set that was double numbered so I did wraps on them. Since then I had sold of my collection. I’m slowly collecting again. But now that rapido is releasing a more prototypical car I will be collecting those instead

plopidrahtis in the “real world” a lot of go transit cars were repainted to that scheme. So athearn produced matching ho and n scale cars.

I think the new go transit cars are a bit better then the old ones. I like the paint scheme on the new ones and i think Metrolinx is way better then Athearn and i like the doors because their a little bit thin.

When it first came out I paid $150 Canadian for a set of 3. Now you can only find them online for $250 or more.

Colours are not aucurate on new cars. The greens are different however top is more of an olive green.

Athearn's attempt at replicating the Metrolinx paint is laughable. I ride these trains regularly and I can tell the dark green is too dark and the light green is also too dark. Maybe it's the indoor lighting but I highly doubt it. There has been no changes or upgrades made to the tooling while prices have increased with every run of these cars. Overall it's fairly disappointing.

内走廊火鸡 Drunk Bee Model Railroad athearn was asked about that. They claim to use a 5k lighting system for photographs of the model. (It's why samples look better then actual) and they claim the paint colour is correct and that indeed it is the lighting. I asked them why they could not replicate the control car, they said "they did not have the tooling for it". But I'm sure it is due to cost of making the tooling for it. Basically they cheaped out.

An HO scale model of the 300-series cab car will probably never be made in ready-to-run plastic unless a few more commuter agencies order them (as in the real cars). There are only so many modelers who want them as of today, which isn't even remotely enough for a manufacturer to break even on the tooling investment.

Unfortunately they only carry a couple of HO scale items. They mostly sell G and O scale. I think they have or will be going out of business as well. I’m not sure.

The old cars look really washed out compared to the new ones. Would be nice if Rapido did them. In this day and age the old tooling is not cutting it. If no one else is doing them why change, I guess. Athearn seems to have issues matching paint with the real ones.

while I am somewhat glad Athearn did another inaccurate run of GO cars in both schemes, I am not at all happy they did the original cab car in the new scheme with the new CEM cab car number.none of our original cab cars have been painted in the new scheme nor are they numbered in the 300's.2 thumbs down for that part.
