I’d love to go to Austin, I tried to talk my family into going last year but ended up going to Missouri instead. It’s cool, I hope I’ll get down there at some point but I also like the idea of fixing the place where I’m at and establish a sort of atheist oasis here in the Midwest. One more place to make people feel welcome and accepted I think is important too.

Oregon is a great place for atheists. I spent most of my life there and had no idea how atheistic even the Christians are there until we moved to Idaho. In Oregon nobody ever asks you about religion and if they do it’s generally just a live and let live attitude. Idaho is awful for religiousity and hating outsiders, anyone who doesn’t conform to their narrow beliefs. Idaho sucks.

I may be mistaking Vi for someone else here, though I'm reasonably certain that I remember Matt once saying (1 or 2 years ago) that he wouldn't host TAE show with Vi as his co-host because he abhorred something she was on record as saying (either in a book or about a book). I don't remember much more than that, but if someone knows more details, I'd be keen to hear it. Also if someone knows what changed between these two, I'd also like to hear that.

1-2 years ago, I didn't know Matt apart from watching the shows, and had never been to Austin/the ACA. My work in the KZbin activist arena only began mid-2019. (You'd know this if you listened to the interviews.) Unsure who you're talking about, but it isn't me.

@Dashing Dave Yeah, I have a fuzzy memory of Matt talking on this very channel, about someone named either Vi or Viv or somesuch, who was on talk heathen that week and he vehemently objected to something she said. I was curious, so I checked out who was on talk heathen that week and it was Vi, but that's hardly conclusive. The filming of the video may have taken place weeks earlier, before it was published and there may have been a 'Vivian" on the show, on that earlier day. So on the one hand, I didn't want to go digging up potentially irrelevant stuff, possibly making Vi feel bad in the process. Then again, if this turned out to be a success story of people overcoming problems and ending up friends, then I would have been interested in hearing more about it. Now that you've brought this up, I'm all the more confused about what was said in that video and who Matt was talking about. I guess the only thing for it is to go on an Atheists Debate Video Binge... I'll let you know of any discoveries/ corrections I make.
@Raz.C4 жыл бұрын
@Dashing Dave If you're wondering if that person from twitter is actually me, then- insofar as you can trust the word of someone you don't know- I can assure you that it isn't. While I wish that I could still say that I don't have a twitter account (or even a facebook account), it's no longer strictly true. Some 3-4 years ago, I succumbed to the pressure and signed up for both. I don't mean "social pressure" here, but rather "industrial pressure," liberally applied by phone/ computer games companies who offer not-insubstantial in-game bonuses for 'Liking' them on facebook, or for posting the results of some in-game event on twitter. Indeed, the rewards offered by these games companies grew to be so significant, that I felt I would be doing myself an avoidable disservice to NOT sign up for twitter/ facebook. In any case, the above describes virtually my entire twitter/ facebook usage. The only exception to this; the only time I use twitter/ facebook socially, is when I confirm my identity to old school friends who use the fb messenger app to ask me if I'm that same amazing, gorgeous specimen of male-awesomeness that they once went to highschool with. In all seriousness and in all clarity/ however, I don't use these apps socially. In the interests of fostering honesty and sincerity via the medium of full disclosure, I must admit that I did ONCE use twitter to ask a question: I asked an actress to marry me. She was so overpoweringly beautiful as to deserve the worship of mere mortals like us. I decided that devotion/ adoration was the purest emanation of this worshipfulness and so I used my twitter account as a social platform for the first (and last time) to ask her to pledge her hand to this lowly, loving human... Ps: Sorry if this response turned into a prosaic essay. I'm super-smashed : ) My girlfriend's current binge spilled over onto me and became my binge, leaving me more earth-shatteringly trashed today than I've been in many a year.
