I was listening to the live feed, and suddenly it went restricted and stopped playing. Finally I saw the permanent post, and now I can resume listening. Thank you for posting your sermons, I love that you teach book by book, chapter by chapter, verse by verse, and especially that you use the most reliable translation, the KJB. And thank you for clarifying the reason why some of us are given the gift of foreign languages and unknown languages, for the purpose of bringing glory to God, and not toward man. And another thing I want to thank you for, pastor Brett, is teaching the charismatic type that they can't use the excuse of jumping up and disrupting the service by shouting out some unknown language out of order, and without another one with the gift of interpretation. And furthermore, one aspect of the Fruit of the Spirit is SELF CONTROL, so saying that they couldn't help themselves is more evidence that they probably (or at least might not) don't have the Holy Spirit at all.

I very much enjoyed reading your comment. ❤ I'm proud to be called an "Athey Creeker" too (lol) - even though a remote viewer. My husband, newly born again actually seeks out the Pastor (on his OWN)! My husband is a workaholic, and was never interested in spirituality. Then came Pastor Brett...! Now he's watching on his own accord! 🎉 My husband wears a beard too. When we were talking about WNBS (Wednesday Night Bible Study), he said, "Pastor Brett sure keeps a good beard"! I think he's bonding! 🤭 Lol! Frank, thank you for posting your pov. I'm sure it will bring many to smile and be thankful for such a devout man of God to be our shepherd! Please pray for me, that one day, I too can host a watch party in my neighborhood, God willing! Thank you so much for your teaching on tongues!! I was always taught that the gift of tongues is no longer necessary in this “post Acts” timeframe. But earnestly wondering why the Lord would not grant this experience to all of His children as believers in order to bring Him glory? Unfortunately for me , it has been my experience (by a few who say they “speak in tongues”) that those who do not are somehow less “spiritual “ or not as close to the Lord. Also I have not personally experienced a proper manifestation of the use of this gift as per your explanation (people shouting out in a worship service with no translation) which has put a bad taste in my mouth😢. You are the first paster I’ve heard teach this in a loving and sensitive manner! I wonder if I am alone in my experience?? Thabk you pastor Brett! I love being able to follow Athey creek on line ❤

Hi Cheryl, thank you for your comment! We try to do our best at sticking to what the Bible teaches, and it’s clear that speaking in tongues doesn’t make anyone more spiritual (1 Corinthians 12:29-30). The gifts are given as the Spirit chooses, and what really matters is pursuing a deeper relationship with Jesus, not just the signs (1 Corinthians 14:1). May the Lord richly bless you as you continue to seek Him!

Pastor Brett! Idk if you've seen the 63,779 cross references in the Bible displayed in the colored arc on-line. If not, the image is quite profound to see! Chris Harrison and Pastor Christoph Römhild have charted the cross references in a colored arc, from OT to NT. This is amazing in and of itself, but then when you insert these cross references over a period of approximately 1,500 years, it's pretty amazing! And not a coincidence, but a "GOD-cidence" (coined by Pastor Brett Meador, October 2024). Loved that word btw! The referenced passages, which are listed vertically, under their respective cross referenced positions, will show up better on a large screen, rather than my phone. "We hear it so often and with such conviction there must be some passage in scripture that says, “God gives 'special' children to 'special' parents.” Except you won't find that in scripture. Instead, this is what you will find: Children are a gift from the Lord; They are a reward from him". It's easy to sit here and comment, when I don't know your hardships. But I do know God very well (were even are on a first name basis - I call Him, God - He calls me, whatever He wishes)! 🤭 and will humbly pray for you and your family. @@juneturner739 What does the Bible say about women pastors There is perhaps no more hotly debated issue in the church today than that of women serving as pastors. As a result, it is important to not see this issue as men versus women. There are women who believe women should not serve as pastors and that the Bible places restrictions on the ministry of women, and there are men who believe women can serve as pastors and that there are no restrictions on women in ministry. This is not a matter of chauvinism or discrimination. It is an issue of biblical interpretation. The Word of God proclaims, “A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent” (1 Timothy 2:11-12). In the church, God assigns different roles to men and women. This is a result of the way mankind was created and the way in which sin entered the world (1 Timothy 2:13-14). God, through the apostle Paul, restricts women from serving in roles of teaching and/or having spiritual authority over men. This precludes women from serving as pastors over men, since pastoring definitely includes preaching, teaching publicly, and exercising spiritual authority. There are many objections to this view of women in pastoral ministry. A common one is that Paul restricts women from teaching because in the first century, women were typically uneducated. However, 1 Timothy 2:11-14 nowhere mentions educational status. If education were a qualification for ministry, then the majority of Jesus’ disciples would not have been qualified. A second common objection is that Paul only restricted the women of Ephesus from teaching men (1 Timothy was written to Timothy, the pastor of the church in Ephesus). Ephesus was known for its temple to Artemis, and women were the authorities in that branch of paganism-therefore, the theory goes, Paul was only reacting against the female-led customs of the Ephesian idolaters, and the church needed to be different. However, the book of 1 Timothy nowhere mentions Artemis, nor does Paul mention the standard practice of Artemis worshipers as a reason for the restrictions in 1 Timothy 2:11-12. A third objection is that Paul is only referring to husbands and wives, not men and women in general. The Greek words for “woman” and “man” in 1 Timothy 2 could refer to husbands and wives; however, the basic meaning of the words is broader than that. Further, the same Greek words are used in verses 8-10. Are only husbands to lift up holy hands in prayer without anger and disputing (verse 8)? Are only wives to dress modestly, have good deeds, and worship God (verses 9-10)? Of course not. Verses 8-10 clearly refer to all men and women, not just husbands and wives. There is nothing in the context that would indicate a narrowing to husbands and wives in verses 11-14. Yet another objection to this interpretation of women in pastoral ministry references women in positions of leadership in the Bible, specifically Miriam, Deborah, and Huldah in the Old Testament. It is true that these women were chosen by God for special service to Him and that they stand as models of faith, courage, and, yes, leadership. However, the authority of women in the Old Testament is not relevant to the issue of pastors in the church. The New Testament Epistles present a new paradigm for God’s people-the church, the body of Christ-and that paradigm involves an authority structure unique to the church, not for the nation of Israel or any other Old Testament entity. Similar arguments are made using Priscilla and Phoebe in the New Testament. In Acts 18, Priscilla and Aquila are presented as faithful ministers for Christ. In verse 18, Priscilla’s name is mentioned first, suggesting to some that she was more prominent in ministry than her husband. (The detail of whose name comes first is probably inconsequential, because in verses 2 and 26 the order is reversed from that of verse 18.) Did Priscilla and her husband teach the gospel of Jesus Christ to Apollos? Yes, in their home they “explained to him the way of God more adequately” (Acts 18:26). Does the Bible ever say that Priscilla pastored a church or taught publicly or became the spiritual leader of a congregation of saints? No. As far as we know, Priscilla was not involved in ministry activity in contradiction to 1 Timothy 2:11-14. In Romans 16:1, Phoebe is called a “deacon” (or “servant”) in the church and is highly commended by Paul. But, as with Priscilla, there is nothing in Scripture to indicate that Phoebe was a pastor or a teacher of men in the church. “Able to teach” is given as a qualification for elders, but not for deacons (1 Timothy 3:1-13; Titus 1:6-9). The structure of 1 Timothy 2:11-14 makes the reason why women cannot be pastors perfectly clear. Verse 13 begins with “for,” giving the “cause” of Paul’s statement in verses 11-12. Why should women not teach or have authority over men? Because “Adam was created first, then Eve. And Adam was not the one deceived; it was the woman who was deceived” (verses 13-14). God created Adam first and then created Eve to be a “helper” for Adam. The order of creation has universal application in the family (Ephesians 5:22-33) and in the church. The fact that Eve was deceived is also given as a reason for women not serving as pastors or having spiritual authority over men (1 Timothy 2:14). This does not mean that women are gullible or that they are all more easily deceived than men. If all women are more easily deceived, why would they be allowed to teach children (who are easily deceived) and other women (who are supposedly more easily deceived)? The text simply says that women are not to teach men or have spiritual authority over men because Eve was deceived. God has chosen to give men the primary teaching authority in the church. Many women excel in gifts of hospitality, mercy, teaching, evangelism, and helping/serving. Much of the ministry of the local church depends on women. Women in the church are not restricted from public praying or prophesying (1 Corinthians 11:5), only from having spiritual teaching authority over men. The Bible nowhere restricts women from exercising the gifts of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 12). Women, just as much as men, are called to minister to others, to demonstrate the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23), and to proclaim the gospel to the lost (Matthew 28:18-20; Acts 1:8; 1 Peter 3:15). God has ordained that only men are to serve in positions of spiritual teaching authority in the church. This does not imply men are better teachers or that women are inferior or less intelligent. It is simply the way God designed the church to function. Men are to set the example in spiritual leadership-in their lives and through their words. Women are also to set an example in their lives, but in a different way (1 Peter 3:1-6). Women are encouraged to teach other women (Titus 2:3-5). The Bible also does not restrict women from teaching children. The only activity women are restricted from is teaching or having spiritual authority over men. This bars women from serving as pastors to men. This does not make women less important, by any means; rather, it gives them a ministry focus more in agreement with God’s design. Pastor Brett was referring to Leviticus 23:17, which speaks of bread being baked with leaven. 🙂 "Ye shall bring out of your habitations two wave loaves of two tenth deals; they shall be of fine flour; they shall be baken with leaven; they are the firstfruits unto the Lord." - Leviticus 23:17 The King James language can be difficult at times!

The other side of speaking in tongues is this: every person from across the Empire who were in Jerusalem for Pentecost had a common franca lingua, but also their own, including their local dialects, where when the disciples came out of the Upper Room and Peter spoke, each one heard him in their own language *and dialect!* Yes, the Holy Spirit is able to cause this from one person being used by Him. But what if the Holy Spirit fell ON the masses, as in the Old Testament, to make them hear Peter that way? With Peter speaking in Galilean Jewish, they understood he was - but they still heard his message in their own language. Both/and. Complicated, huh? There have been many stories of those praying or speaking quietly being overheard by a foreign visitor to a church or even on the street where they both understood what was said, but also highlit a situation in their lives or answer of their prayers, and the speaker had no way of knowing either the hearer's language or situation. Tongues is given as a help to prayer. But it is just *one* gift that comes as a complete package with the Holy Spirit, along with the others, to empower a person and their ministry, *not* a 'mark of salvation', that is evident by the *fruits of the Spirit* in one's life. You might pray in tongues daily; you might only ever have it happen once, as it did to a friend of mine, now in glory; you might *never* knowingly do so. It is down, really, to what the Holy Spirit deems is important for you to have and use, as a gift, for that moment or for your life. But did you consider that Spirit-led prayer in your *own* language is as much speaking in tongues as it is classically thought of? Just a thought. Much of what I've written, except for that last, Ps. Brett touched on here, so nothing new. However, it is important to understand the distinctions. Hope this helps a little bit more for some. Shalom.

Brett I usually enjoy your teaching but I believe what you are describing here when the 120 receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit is not being explained truly. There was a sound from heaven AS OF (sounding like) a rushing mighty wind and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. There was no wind, it was a SOUND ONLY. Then there appeared to them divided tongues (split tongue, ie not their usual language but a second language) AS OF FIRE and one sat upon each one of them. ie AS OF, not actual fire, but LIKE it, hot and fast languages spread like wild fire as the Spirit gave them utterance.

You know by the way the passage is written, it says every man heard them speaking in their own tongue. It seams more like the apostles speak and the Holy Spirit turns their speech into different languages to different ears. There would have been Jews there from all around for the feast. It implies that many different languages were heard from one speech. I just truly think speaking in tongues is not at all what it's been made into. Today it is a show by a man or woman and noone even knows what they're talking about. Who's being glorified other than the speaker if noone even knows what was said? Fakery is what I call it

As Pastor Brett mentioned, we agree that tongues are often not practiced today the way Scripture teaches, but there is a right way to speak in tongues. 1 Corinthians 14 makes it clear that tongues should always glorify God, not draw attention to the speaker. When tongues are used publicly without interpretation or for show, it misses the true purpose.
