Athletics Men's 110m Hurdles Semi-Finals. Full Replay from the Olympic Stadium at the London 2012 Olympic Games, 8 August 2012.
Since 1896, athletics has been on the programme of each edition of the Games of the Olympiad. Its presence on the Games programme has allowed its popularity to increase across the world. This popularity was also strengthened by the creation of the IAAF in 1912. Women's events appeared for the first time at the 1928 Olympic Games in Amsterdam, while the men's programme was standardised as of the 1932 Games in Los Angeles. Although at the beginning women were authorised to participate in only some events, today their programme is almost identical to that of the men.

i think guys often do this in heats and in semi finals...because if they are planning to break a world record they would want to do it during the finals when they get gold...just makes for a more epic moment.

Galavich dude. The thing about it is that all the semi finals are there for is to see who qualifies for the finals. He's not in the finals yet. He uses just enough energy to make it to finals so he can save the rest to actually race in finals. You see track is actually strategy aight. You don't just run then win. You especially don't waste all your energy on semi finals then have no legs to run the finals. Work smarter not harder.

TheDarThaum I'm aware. I guess I should've made myself more clear. It's just a pet peeve and could've been passed in the last second and not have made it to finals

That's not the point though it's semifinals let me put it this way if you give everything you have the first race what's going to be left for you to run off of in the finals

Elijah Hunt do you think for only 10m more of effort he would be with zero energy at the finals? lol
@Afatrack24

Pablo Cid probably not, but he's just running smart. I ran hurdles in high school and college, and I'm guilty of slowing down towards the end when I know I'm making it to the next race. All you need to do is advance, not blow away everyone. You start to know if people are closeby or not in a hurdle race by sound and how loud their feet are when they land. So he knew he was ahead and could relax a bit.

The thing about track and field is that you don't just run hard, or jump far the first time, or throw the farthest on the first throw. The best athletes in the world always think smart. If you waste all of your energy to get into the finals, then your finals race is over.
@TheDarThaum

And yes, if you were a sprinter in the 110 you would know what 10m could be the difference of. Between tearing a muscle, cramping out, or just having no gas left. This is an all-out race. It's not some nice jog to the finish.

@matthewflores8439
@matthewflores8439 9 жыл бұрын
It's much better to stride between the hurdles than to "shuffle". It's best to attempt to three step.
@TheDarThaum
@TheDarThaum 8 жыл бұрын
The reason those guys in these races shuffled was because they were moving so quickly. So quick in fact that they couldn't even bring their knees up to do proper running form. So if you want to be able to shuffle the answer is simple, get faster. Period.

Yuto Watanabe that's not how hurdles works. There's a ton of technique used in hurdles that aren't in usual sprints. You can't tell whether someone is good at hurdles or not simply because they are fast.
