Caution about the Matador FlatPak bottles: liquids, like conditioners, that have alcohol can slowly dissolve the adhesive of the seams along the bottle cap. I've had a few that have leaked because of this. I now fill mine with a shampoo+conditioner that doesn't have alcohol in it.

Yeah, I purchased a bunch of them because I loved the concept, and they were really cool and I could fit in more of them than other bottles, until they started leaking right where you said. Also, the inner lining started to peel away from the outer fabric after just a few uses. I wanted to love them so much, but they caused too many messes in my toiletries kit, and I sadly had to go back to Humangear’s Go-toobs. Which I’m not knocking, they’re awesome bottles. Just bulky.

Thanks for taking the time to make this! I found a few things I might like to add. Everyone’s Kit is personal to them but like you, I like to collect things as I see them. One thing I like to bring is a pair of tsa complaint travel scissors and a binder clip. I use the binder clip to either keep the hotel room curtains closed or to clip my passport and valuables somewhere in the room where they are safe from theft.

​@AtHomeInTheFuture the Victorinox SAK Jetsetter is a great little TSA compliant tool. It's like the Classic, but without a blade. It has a small pair of scissors, a little Phillips screwdriver+bottle opener multi-tool, and the ubiquitous toothpick and tweezers. You could also throw in a Victorinox Swiss Card with the blade removed or replaced with a file. Fantastic little multi-tool.

Id put a single trashbag in your EDC. Useful for: leave no trace, AND its a poncho/gear water proofer if needed. It weighs/costs nothing and is super useful. A large ziplock is also good for dealing with a ton of situations.

I would add a victorinox jettsetter and a small dry bag. The victorinox is bladeless and TSA approved. The small scissors are very useful when traveling and can solve a lot of problems when you dont have your normal edc multitool or knife. The toothpick is also great when eating out at restaurants a lot. A dry bag is great for the trip home if youre packing a wet swim suit or sweaty clothes that you dont want packed with the rest of your dirty laundry. It can also be used as a laundry wash bucket since many hotel drains dont actually hold water enough to wash clothes in the sink. Or even just as a backup stuff sack/org pouch for items in your day pack with added bonus of waterproof protection

Re. scissors - only within the US I think; possibly Europe. If you're travelling within Asia Pacific, forget it. Your scissors + even the smallest pen knives will be confiscated.

Great video! It feels like most EDC videos cover the exact same multitools, knipex, flashlight, knife, etc and there's often nothing new other than small variations on which knife to carry. But this video gave me a TON of new ideas I had never heard of. FYI you can replace the multiple different USB cables with 2-3 USBC-USBC cables plus adapters for lightning and microUSB. Takes up the same amt of room as individual cables, but you then have the ability to charge multiple USB-C devices at once, since most of us will need more than one cable when charging at night.

Nice! A lot of the stuff you have I have in my pack when I travel. I keep my pack pretty much ready to go as it serves as a bug out as well. The only think have that might be useful is a inflatable travel pillow, travel pad, and cork massage ball. My favorite go to bag is my 13 year old Gen 3 Tad Gear Fast pack that I've taken all over the world from Asia to Europe and countless trips all over the country for work and leasure. Great video

Yeah, I'm doing the same. This pack stays 75% loaded up in my closet until I need it. Those are some interesting ideas for additions too. I go back and forth on travel pillows for the plane... they just don't feel all that comfortable to me.

@@AtHomeInTheFuture the travel pillow isn't for the plane, I sleep horribly on flights, it's for hotel rooms and/should I get stuck at a location like an airport and have to sleep on a floor. Sometimes hotel pillows can be the worst so I have tired out a couple of ultralight backpacking pillows and I have a Nemo luxury pillow that I wrap in a buff that make things a lot more comfortable for me.

Great packing vlog, although I probably wouldn’t need all that is there. I did like the packing cubes and a few of the cables you travel with. Marino wool is always a must in my opinion, otherwise silk long shirt or T-shirts would be a good substitute.

Merino wool is amazing, no doubt. I own two 100% Merino wool t-shirts, and have previously owned much more expensive Ibex and Smartwool t-shirts/sweatshirts. With that being said, I would not recommend buying merino wool clothes unless you're fine with buying them constantly. They get holes in them after a short period of time. This isn't a brand/how well they're made thing, it's the nature of merino wool. It's incredibly weak material. It's also very expensive considering it doesn't last long. I use the 2 shirts I have only when I know it's going to be a sweaty day. That way they last significantly longer.

I've owned this bag for a while and I really like it. My only major gripe is that, unless you're a Mac user, you can't fit a 15 inch laptop in this thing. The sleeve itself is large enough for my 15" gaming PC. But the opening in the zipper is about 2 mm too small to comfortably slide it in. My computer is pretty slim. But it's not a Mac so it's not tiny. If I really need to bring my laptop, I'll usually just put it in the main compartment. It's not a deal-breaker but it's kind of annoying. And I guess it's not necessarily a bad thing that it is a good incentive to talk myself out of bringing my laptop if I'm flying and trying to use this bag as my personal item. :-)

Really smart items in your list! The one thing I would add which is something I travel with all the time is a 16-20oz thin metal insulated drink bottle(mine is from Starbucks). This way while on your trip you can use it for keeping drinks hot(like morning coffee or tea) or cold while you're out all day. 👍

Pretty good set up. A few things I always include for medical is a SWAT T, 3 in one tourniquet, compression wrap to have on me at all times. From a wastepack to everything else. Packs so small and thin, why not, saves lives! Weighs 4 ounces, 5.83x3.03x1.22 inches. Everyone should consider this and for every member of their family. Toss in a few packets of Blood Stop, also very tiny. Tape them on the package wrap. Even for a dogs pack, lol. Out walking, twist an ankle or old knee injury haunts you, you're covered. And it's waterproof. Look up all the uses.....the directions are printed on this band, and you can cut strips off these. It's rubber. I carry a tiny Nighcore NU 125 headlamp with the shock cord band, self explanitory. So small I can wear around my neck and sleep with it especially. I have a SOL slim howler whistle tied into the shock cord band. Also self expanitory. Think earthquakes...or getting lost. I bring my Be Free water filter by Katadyn with a 2L Hydropak 'Seeker' bladder attached and I have this stashed in a nylon packable bottle sling with a dropper bottle of electrolytes in the bag's little pocket. Saved my a$% a few times. I have atleast a small or mini victorinox ( you can get the Jet Setter style for planes) has small scissors that work well, bottle opener, small screw driver, tooth pic, tweezer, you have a chance at fixing tec or glasses. I keep in my pocket and I have a Leathermam Squirt ( they also have a blade free version) for the plyers. I have used these for sewing through thick material to grabbing hot things off a fire. I have 2 decent big eyed stainless sewing needles one thicker one thin that I taped on a plastic store card. On either side I rolled on some Gorilla tape and some Leuko tape (for blisters, medical use) and on top of the needles I wound up some thin white thread and some heavy guage thread. Enough to repair a pack, clothes, etc. Toss this in a little 3x3 zip with a one shot mini super glue and a square of Gaffers tape. Instant tiny repair kit. Voilla! I bring small Sea to Sumit SIL nylon dry bags that fold down to nothing for so many uses....one for wet clothes, socks, swim wear, etc...to collect sea shells, lol, and to wash small garments in just squish and rinse. I use Foam brand soap sheets and a dash of baking soda. I have a small pack towels, one wash cloth, one double wash cloth size, nice suade feel, super quick dry, with loops and snaps to hang. These usually dry what needs to be dried or if I am hot the longer one makes a nice cooling towel. I put a bandana in as well for my face, to cool my neck. (or warm it up) and slide the FOAM sheet soap pack in the tiny flat pack the towel came in, very neat little package for wash up on the go, I usually toss in 3 dime size towls you just add water to as well for real messy stuff. I have a BEARSZ compact ' beach blanket' which is basically a waterproof tarp with grommets (and corner sand or rock pockets). I carry a One Wind poncho tarp and some decent Kevlar line which is teeny tiny and super strong. This can make a quick sun or rain shelter with trees or sticks. And always a decent 4inch ferro rod and a small tin of Live Fire. I have a small very decent compass with a mirror. The mirror comes in handy if i get something in my eye or to signal. The compass to figure out maps obviously or to mark the direction you are adventureing into so you can get out of. This all packs so tiny. I would grab a BIC right at the airport atleast a mini, this is a gimme. If there is some kind of disaster I have some pretty basic survival items in a small tiny package. Never rely on GPS, period. Especially now omg. Anyway... I love my 4Monster packable Waist Pack/shoulder sling bag and my 4Monster packable day pack(s). I have a few sizes now after using these constantly for like 4 years sometimes with pretty heavy loads in them, often carrying camping gear really. Heading for the beach, whatever. Check out the good reviews. I use CHUMS tiny nylon zip pouches, one for a wallet and one for ICE. They have a clear panel on one side and a key chain loop. The pannel obviously to see your ID. In the ICE one I have that written in red on a card with my personal medical info. Bam, there it is ! Inside I keep one weeks of my personal medication plus one couse or dose of the over the counter meds. Benadryl, Immodium, Tylenol for fever, Dramamine( vertigo sea sickness), 800 mg IBU, plus Pepto, Tums (calcium- read about this), etc. Read the labels and pack a full recommended course for your day pack, or waist pack incase. I take the tablets out of the blister packs and put in 1×1 thick mill zips labeled and dated. Tiny zip bags are so cheap on Amazon and come in all different sizes. I have a tiny Write in the Rain field book (come in a three pack on Amazon) and I write the instruction I may need for meds, I have a basic first aid wallet card, a credit card sixed Fresno lens, I store my important phone numbers, contacts, account #'s and even some passcodes I may forget in the note book. I have a mini sharpie and small pencil and bullet pen by Fisher, a space pen to wite on various things. Sharpies write on skin BTW. I usually stuff a spare memory card for my phone, a sim tool, one for my tablet and my micro Samsung 256g flash drive that I keep copies of important docs on... (that's really a no brainer) in this tiny pouch. I even have these minture set of tweezers by Tweezerman that work brilliant! I keep the correct size screws for my glases and the correct teeny magnetic screw driver. Another no brainer saves hours or days of drama. Everyone that relies on glasses to see should do this. The chances of loosing my waist pack are pretty slim so I feel it's worth the risk. Chums are so small you can latch in a pocket. I put Nite Eze locking mini carabinas on all my stuff regardless. They have a zipper good for coins, jewelry. Last travel hack is to loose all the bulky bags or fragile zip locks and grab some Silocone zip locks used to replace freezer bags. These are awesome and come in sets of 4 each snack, sandwich, quart and half gallon just like the regular bags. You can freeze them or put boiling water in them to rehydrate food. Like the Hydropak Seeker bottle attacked to my Be Free filter, they can be used as a cold pack for unjuries or a hot water 'bottle' type vessel. You can rinse out an eye, soak a finger, wash out a wound, etc... I pack small screw tins of baking soda and you just have to read all the uses for that. The screw tins are also very cheap on Amazon. So much you can put in these to drop packaging weight and they don't puncture or leak. I bought 5 sets for 13.oo each to cover all my bases. Or the cost of one fancy case, lol. So the Silcone bags can keep your tech dry, and compress everything. My phone for instance. They are dishwasher safe. I For my day pack, I often keep a spare pair of socks, a hat and running gloves in one, maybe some hand or toe warmers, or a bug net in spring, stuff like that. For a plane you can keep your cords, ear buds, eye mask, face mask, lol, whatever all that in a snack to sanwhich size like a 'kit'. Keeps things super sealed, or clean and /or not smelly, use for snacks ! They are smooth and sleek and slip in and out of bags like a champ. You can make a little bathroom kit. I usually slip a few 'kits' in one of my Sea to Summit Sil Nylon bags to cover my bases while sitting stationary or for short walks, strolling around and where a pack is just too much, like going into crowded museums, stores, at events, and more so I am not in and out of my pack 50 times sitting at a table or in a seat like buss, cab or car. I can fit these bags in a jacket pocket, or even latch the Sil Nylon dry bags on my waiste pack or latch to a belt. Say to use the bathroom that may not have soap and toilet paper or sanitizer. At a store to buy snacks, stuff my rain jacket in, keep my packable shopping bag in....etc. just so handy ! But the point is all the various uses for a few items. I hope that point comes across. These bags are #1 untra light, #2 ultra small and #3 totally waterproof. Hope this helps.

You didn't go overkill with the first aid kit. I carry everything shy of chest seal and quick clot. Having creams, ointments and gauze can save you HOURS and keep you safe until you can get to those who help. Even in the US, help can be far away, and simply keeping a wound pain-free and clean is a lot. great work!

I have a 23L Fjallraven backpack. And because I travel mostly around Europe, I have stopped carrying all the just in case items. Can recommend 1L transparent toiletry bag(if you don't carry much), carbon fiber belt buckle(no need to take it of at security check) and clothes for 3 days + what you travel in. Merino wool is good for hiking but not great for the city, I usually carry one merino t-shirt just in case. I don't see an umbrella, or folding shopping bag(Peak Design packable tote is great). My back weights 3,5Kg without, or 4,5Kg with laptop. On cloud shoes look interesting.

I have been an edc / one bag travel nerd for two years now. I like a lot of items you shared but those prices do sting s but for my budget. I'm looking forward to getting some merino wool soon but for now what i loved most are those Velcro security locks. I go to sketchy places so that's just a good peace of mind item. A lot of us cant afford much either youre not alone. I watch these videos to get a full list of things I can find cheaper options for say even at dollar tree! Its like a scavenger hunt to see what cheap replacements I can find. Though for some items, Good quality is better. But in the meantime you can always find cheap options!

Great video and i added some new gear to my 'to buy' list. I'd love a clip of your bag on a luggage scale as part of the video. Our last international flight was 7kg carryon, with a generous carrier. In complete support of the heroclip, mine recently filled the space on our tour buses by allowing me to clip my water bottle to the seat in front of me. Tour bus had no mesh pockets, cup holders... hero clip let me attach it to the loop on my Nalgene and then i had it right in front of me. You wouldn't believe how many bottles fell on the floor and rolled away and how many people on the bus complained about not having somewhere to put their single use plastic bottles.

Maybe about 8 pounds without the laptop. 12 or so with. Heavily depends on the weight of your clothes, extra gadgets/chargers, etc

Thanks for the great suggestions. I use the detachable loops you find in the Matador Flatpak Toiletry Bottles to hang them from the shower racks because often, they are small, or I put in there other things, or I don't want to put anything on them. This feature is handy, and I use it all the time. Just my 2 cents.

I use the loops on the matador shampoo and conditioner bottles to hook them on a lanyard for hanging them in the shower so they don't touch anything or fall on the ground when I travel or camp.

Thank you for this great video that, to me, seems to summarize in a very good way, a lot of things I have been seeing in separate videos for some time. I have some of the things you show here, the HeroClip, an Anker charger, some medical first aid stuff, a backpack with the same amount of pockets and the same way of opening (very important!) and some more. My items are maybe from different labels or different editions but same things anyway. And those I don't have, are on my wish list since some time! And then some new stuff that seems very useful! What I would also suggest, is the Victorinox SwissCard Lite, it has very useful little scissors (they cut really well), a little LED light, a little pen, etc.

Get the small Grayl ultra press ( or the larger Geo press) water purifier, clean water from any source, no matter where you are, plus it doubles as a water bottle, so you always have a bottle handy

here is a hack I accidentlly discovered. I've been to London last year for business and it was summer, so it was hot both where I live and in London. So I opted for some nice and cozy sandals and packed proper shoes in my checked suitcase. Guess who was the only one not having to put his shoes off on both flights?

Here's your miss. The hotel door straps. Or anything that prevents proper access from the outside, (Hotel master key, etc). Just No. What if you have a medical emergency? You can dial 9-1-1 or the front desk, but they can't get into your room quickly. Now EMS is waiting on the fire department to break down the door. In case of fire, and you have to evacuate quickly. Now you need to fuss with your door "safety" solution while you're groggy at 3am. Things that are designed to block unauthorized access like under the door tools, or shims, fine. But anything that stops staff from opening your door in an emergency should be thought over very very carefully. Or anything that stops you from opening your door quickly during an emergency. Also, they do nothing if you aren't in the room. You can't put them on and then leave. So its not going to stop anyone robbing the room if you're gone. If you're that paranoid about housekeeping opening your door while you're inside, find another hotel.

If you started fresh with nothing at all, maybe around $500-$1000 depending on what you need/want to carry? If you already have a bag/clothes/tech, then you could mix and match all of the little extras for much much cheaper. Also like to clarify - this isn’t a budget picks video necessarily, but rather the stuff I think is the best in category :-)

I travel frequently. It isn’t unusual for me to be on a plane at 6:00 AM and to return at 9:00 PM the same day… and even then I check a bag. It is impossible to be TSA complaint and be prepared for much of anything. This is a good idea to have things in case your bag gets lost or something prevents you from getting to your bag upon arrival… but that’s as far as it goes.

Sorry, I really don’t understand all the complaints on price and quality. Do you want cheap crap as a recommendation? I don’t. Show me the good stuff, I’ll decide how important it is to me and what level of quality I need in that item IF I need it at all or if there are other things I need more. There are generics or less expensive models of everything listed here. Everything. You don’t have to buy a $200 EDC bag, if you only travel twice a year get a $20 bag, they’re all over Amazon… but don’t complain if it doesn’t hold up.

A packing cube that takes up 80% of the space in your bag defeats the concept,IMO. Use smaller packing cubes to organize vs a “black hole”. Otherwise good stuff… very hackberry based.

I like your videos but I do dare you to pack for a trip do Europe. Several restaurants do not accept training clothes. You’d have to be wearing a suit (even for someone as “casual “ as you’re. As an American you all enjoy a very relaxed way of dressing but if you were invited to a wedding, or Easter with your in laws. If you’re not married and met an especial person how could you use the same tennis shoes and same tshirt (just different color) every single date… I’m sure to go to Disneyworld it’s ok but for work or especial events in yet to see some one to pack semi pijamas

The quality control on those matador toiletries backs is horrific. I bought the 3-set and 2 leaked off the bat from the weld at the lid. Both replaced under warranty, and 11 of the 2 replacements leaked in the same spot. Looking at their socials and reviewis,, seems like a very prevalent problem.
