Zuko was my FAVORITE character in ATLA. He went from being the villain to an antihero to a good guy, and experienced abandonment, dishonor, humiliation, physical and emotional scarring, heartbreak, and COUNTLESS repeated failures, but he NEVER gave up, even when he was sometimes all alone. This video was a fantastic tribute!

Zuko and Iroh’s story was probably my favorite like it’s so perfect you can’t get anything better seriously everyone needs an Iroh in their life to guide them I want to personally take his advice and implement it into my own life but if you think about it zuko’s redemption arc is just as much iroh’s because he lost his son in the war because of making his own mistakes then he learned from them and taught what he learned to zuko hoping that zuko would become better and not follow the same path as his own son it’s so well crafted and this is why ATLA is my favorite show okay

I can't help but think of the Red Queen series when you said the "Shadow of the flame" as it's what Maven is referred as. The shadow of his brilliant, perfect older brother, preferred over him. Favoured, like Azula. Only difference between them (now that I'm thinking about it) is that Zuko gets redeemed, while Maven turns darker and darker.

Needed to address this! I've seen a few responses to this video along the lines of "but Zuko is nothing like Burr!" and "Zuko never waits for anything!" My thoughts on that are as follows: Zuko doesn't have to be like Burr for the song to fit his character. If I were *casting* Hamilton with Avatar characters of course I wouldn't choose him as Burr, but taken out of the context of the overall Hamilton narrative with some meanings bent, the song works just fine. Because (moving on to the second comment), although Zuko is constantly fighting and struggling and has no patience on that count, he *does* end up having to wait for it (and by "it" I mean everything). He may have been impatient, but he was also prepared to fight for as long as he had to, and my god did it take a while, which is, I guess, the point of the video. Think of "waiting for it" in this context as "hanging in there until it pays off". Anyway, that's what it's all about.
@claudia21898 жыл бұрын
I totally agree! This song held a different meaning as it was done in Zuko's perspective, but it doesn't lose its overall authenticity-I love the video!! Thanks for uploading!!!

@Omipunkle7 жыл бұрын
I totally agree. Even though Zuko is nothing like Burr, their stories are understand and this song really does work for Zuko. Though their stories are somewhat backwards (Burr started out as Hammy's friend and slowly ended up his enemy and wanted to kill him, but Zuko wanted to capture Aang to restore his honor and later discovered that he would find honor with his friends and be a good guy, instead of restoring his honor by capturing an innocent kid) they both had hard stories and alike in many ways.

okay but consider...tarrlok and noatak from LOK!
@dani010203stor6 жыл бұрын
i agree. i also think it kinda suits him cause he might have felt like he had to wait a lot. For so much time he was waiting to feel right. He was following a path that was obviourly not the correct one, but he thought it was. And he kept going and going and waiting for the moment he felt everything was finally ok. Even after that, when Azula "killed" the avatar and he recovered honor, he was like. "Ok... it must come any minute now..." but he still couldn't filled the emptiness that only his uncle and doing the right think and ending with his father's tirany could fill. for that i think it's perfect. He was so confused and lost, and i can sense that in this song

Goodness, the timing was perfect for the transitions, the scenes you picked were spot on, and the atmosphere was tippy top. I got chills, honestly. Not to even mention how you managed to go into his dynamic with Aang. You mingled both their feelings in a very powerful, beautiful way, and really brought out just how much they grew together, not just as partners, but as friends. Zuko is my favorite character in the series simply due to his amazing character development, and I think you just managed to explain all of him in roughly two and a half minutes. Bless

Life doesn’t discriminate Between the sinners and the saints It just takes and it takes and it takes And we keep living anyway We rise and we fall and we break and we make our mistakes And if there’s a reason I’m still alive when so many have died... I’m willing to wait for it. Bruh this hits so hard when you think about all the lives lost on both sides of the war, and all the people left behind wondering why they’re alive and their loved ones aren’t. Yet, they have no option but to move on with life to the best of their ability and find the reason they’re still alive - or one could say, find their own destiny. And that fits not only Zuko, but many of the main characters of Avatar. To the person who made this, it’s amazing!!

Zuko and Burr may be very different people, but they are similar in some very important ways. They both try so desperately to advance in their own way, but fail to because of a core flaw in their mindset and character. They differ however because Zuko was able evolve and grow into someone better, while Burr stayed stagnant. They don't fit perfectly, but I feel that this song captures how they truly correlate as characters, and honesty I am in tears right now.

This might be a bit late but holy shit this is so well put together and so absolutely fitting. The shot choice for each line, the transitions, everything is just fantastic. There's so many details.. "My grandfather was a fire and brimstone preacher" -> Zuko trying to impress his own grandfather, failing and being judged harshly for it. "but there are things that the homilies and hymns won't teach ya" -> Learning about his secret heritage, being descended from Roku, something not at all told or preached compared to his father's bloodline. "Death/Life doesn't descriminate, between the sinners and the saints" -> The first time, panning from the dead fire nation soldiers ('sinners') to Monk Giatzo (saint). Then later, going from Azula ('sinner') to Zuko ('saint'). Amazing shots. "it takes and it takes and it takes" -> cutting first to Aang grieving Giatzo, then Katara's necklace from her dead mother, and finally to Iroh's son.. all victims of the war. And then the later part, showing Azula's descent.. it took her mother, then her own innocence and sanity. More victims of the war. "We rise and we fall and we break and we make our mistakes" -> Zuko and Iroh prepared to go home on the false pretense of his father forgiving him, the aftermath of that trap failing and them becoming outlaws of the nation, zuko parting ways with Iroh and later grieving over his injured form from him nearly dying due to their split.. encapsulates that entire line flawlessly. "Hamilton faces an endless uphill climb" -> Aangs past struggles with firebending, the hill he has to climb to learn it "Hamilton doesn't hesitate, he exhibits no restraint, he takes and he takes and he takes" -> Aang's past lives and their advice to kill Ozai, Aang's own aggressive actions as well "If there's a reason he seems to thrive when so few survive then goddammit I'm willing to wait for it" -> Zuko reconciling with his uncle, thinking of the loss of his son, and that he's willing to wait and work towards a happier future. Perfect timing with the hug too, made me tear up. And there's so many more.. ugh, this is a masterpiece. I love it.

This is probably the only amv I come bacck to ans watch regularly. The first time I saw it I was in tears and it never fails to deliver ever since. Everything about this video is so well done with the timing of the events and the matching of the crescendos in the song to the images. The line "Things that the homilies and hymms wont teach you" matching with Zuko finding the truth about the past in the scrolls. I love the way you portrayed Zuko's parents with the "Mother was a genius, Father commanded respect. When they died..." lines. The first, "Im willing to wait for it" as Zuko leaves Iroh to find his own way, thee sudden burst after the pause with Zuko and Aang fighting, "Im not falling behind or running late" as Zuko compares himself to his sister, the comparison of Aang to hamilton as "He has nothing to loose" While we *watch him loose what he fears*. The fucking hug between Iroh and Zuko right at the perfect moment, I cry, without fail, Every. Damn. Time. Suddenly comparing Zuko and Azula to the "sinners and the saints" while showing Azula's struggle. That last moment where Zuko sacrifices himself to save Katara. I can Not get over all the little nuances you put into this video, I think that's what draws me back so often. I think I saw this before I ever listened to any of the Hamilton soundtrack and, let me say, this just adds a layer of meaning to Wait For It that the original medium cannot do for me. You captured Zuko's growth and character arc so perfectly, thank you. I apologize for the rambling nature of this comment but I just needed to express to you how *good* this thing is.

My father says she was born lucky; he says I was lucky to be born. I don't need luck, though. I don't want it. I've always had to struggle and fight, and that's made me strong. That's made me who I am.”

I never truly understood why people would cry in the end of a fan video like this.......now I do

I love that the author of this video used zuko for this song. . It shows the difference between waiting simply as a tactic or strategy like Aaron burr and waiting because you haven't fully embraced your story as a whole. While zuko waited to learn who he was, his legacy began to cement around his new formed character. These are the things that forge greatness. Great story telling elements.

*frantically takes notes* Those timing choices, GOD. 2:07-2:16 *hnnnnng* I wasn't expecting it to fit at all, and then it did. It really, really did. I think the bit that made me sit up straight was "I am the one thing in life I can control" because that really is central to Zuko's arc throughout his exile; and later, again, when he looks at Aang: "What is it like in his shoes?" The parallels established between the two are to me one of the most interesting aspects of the series. It works really well here.

I love that though this song is about Burr and his conflict with Hamilton, it still somehow fits seamlessly with ATLA. It doesn’t seem to matter that the name “Hamilton” is in the song itself. Everything is so beautify synced, especially those 2 seconds of silence before “WAIT FOR IT!” and when Zuko and Iroh hug. Very well done!

Ok I know I'm like 4 years late but WHAT THE FUCK WHY IS THIS SO GOOD SO many dang parallels that I literally never would have thought of before seeing this. Masterpiece. And when I tell you that by the last chorus I was having CHILLS. and the last transition to quiet clapping section? DOUBLE CHILLS.

I love how you transformed this from a song about patience to one about perseverance. Any other songs you thinking of pairing with ATLA?

Burn would be a good one. Not sure who to pair it to, but the raw emotion in it would fit so well

Omg I never noticed how similar Aang and zuko are to Hamilton and burr only burr didn’t really have a redemption arc and was sort of the other way around, still very similar 🤔

This was beautifully edited and amazingly produced! I honestly believe that this song perfectly encapsulates the true meaning behind Zuko (As well as Burr) with his strengths and weaknesses. Burr and Zuko both have a main goal and they'll do whatever it takes to reach it. They both follow the main character or the "protagonist" and try to understand what they're doing. Finally, they both had a huge development change that was impressively and creatively shown in both A:TLA and Hamilton The Musical. The fact that this story fits almost perfectly to this song is truly beyond belief! And while it may be true that people could say that this doesn't really pertain to the same thing or that Burr and Zuko's plot are flipped, etc. the meaning is there. The passion and fire that burned inside the both of them lead them to do what they thought was right and made them icons in their own respective stories for it. Again, this is amazing and truly a work of art!

When you start watching thinking 'this won't make any sense, it's Hamilton mixed with avatar, how could it?' and suddenly you start crying later in the video and then you see the flawless plot and storyline of this and start thinking 'why can't I write a plot like this' and you realize you care more for these characters than you do yourself and you keep crying for hours on end. Relatable.

Wow, this video actually made me cry... Like, it's just so beautyful, you see Zuko's struggling so clear, and the clips combined with the music and the lyrics, and that one moment when you just feel the "wait for it" and Iroh pulls Zuko into a hug just hit right where it hurt! Damn a great job you did!!!

This song means so much to me and seeing it paired with Zuko (and Aang) really fucks me up - in the best way possible. This is wonderfully, beautifully, fucking artfully done. I've watched this many times and I have never not cried and felt like it's all too much to handle. And the jasmin green tea is only helping a little.
